Jindaiji temple is a hidden temple in Tokyo, not only is it one of the biggest temples in Tokyo, but it is also the second oldest! This place is crazy beautiful!

The site is in Japanese but there is an English option for you guys.
This isn't just one temple, Jindaiji consists of an old style traditional town (that sells a very special type of soba that is famous all around Japan). It actually has 6 individual temples that make up the entire area of Jindaiji. It can take you about 2 hours to get around everything.
On top of that there is a botanical garden that you can visit that will run you only 200 yen to enter and will take you an extra 3 hours to get around. Definitely a great tourism spot to put on your travel itinerary!
Getting to the area is made quite easy by the cheap bus ran by the Keio line that can pick you up from either Tsutsujigaoka, Shibasaki, or Chofu's train stations. If you are looking for things to do in Tokyo, then look no further than this.
This is one Josh's favorite places to visit in Japan, it makes for a great hidden travel spot that you can show off to your friends. The major appeal of this place is the beautiful natural environment; making it an amazing photography spot for pros and amateurs alike! Definitely an Instagram hot spot.

We went to Jindaiji Temple! It's actually the second oldest temple in Tokyo - but most people have never heard of it.
It's a bit far from central Tokyo, so it doesn't get the same crowds as the temples in Asakusa and Ueno.
In fact, after three years of living in Tokyo, this was my first time going. I hadn't even heard of it.
We went just as hanami (sakura flower viewing) season started - so we got to see some lovely hanami as well.

Tokyo Jindai-Ji - 深大寺 - 4K Ultra HD : Founded in 733 and converted to the Tendai Sect in 859, Jindai-ji is actually the second oldest temple in Tokyo area after Sensoji in Asakuasa. Rather difficult to access from Tokyo, Jindai-ji is actually located in the Tokyo suburb of Chofu, but this temple has much to offer for anyone willing to make the trip out there.
Beside the temple by itself, there are many things to do and discover at Jindai-Ji, chief among them a representation of the temple’s founder in the form of a wooden statue that Japanese people worship and touch for good luck. Less spiritual but still pretty mystical is the Gegege no Kitaro Chaya. This is a store dedicated to the Japanese manga and animation, Gegege no Kitaro, whose author, Shigeru Mizuki, took the temple as inspiration for his main character’s world.
Jindai-ji also hosts a pet cemetery as well as many Soba restaurants located by the temple entrance.

Painting the Tokyo Metro Guide cover
Cover illustration for a magazine called “Metro Guide” being distributed thought metro stations in Tokyo from September 2017.
Number of copies: around 1 000 000.
This edition is autumn themed so I tried to make my illustration fit the contents with the colors and atmosphere. I used the Jindaiji temple and the shops that surround it as an inspiration for the setting.

Jindaiji ’s official name is Tendaishubekkakuhonzanfugakusanshorakuinjindaiji.
Fugaku is called so, because from the distance it looks as if the mountain is floating, and was used as a landmark when people came from afar.

深大寺（じんだいじ）は、東京都調布市深大寺元町五丁目にある天台宗別格本山の仏教寺院である。山号は浮岳山。
日本三大だるま市の1つ「深大寺だるま市」で知られている。隣接する東京都立神代植物公園は旧寺領であった。
「深大寺」の名称は、仏法を求めて天竺（インド）を旅した中国僧玄奘三蔵を守護したとされる水神「深沙大王」（じんじゃだいおう）に由来していると伝えられている。 天平5年（733年）満功上人が法相宗の寺院として開創したと伝える。859年、天台宗に改宗する。1646年と1865年に火災に遭っており、堂宇の大半を失っている。現在の本堂は大正年間の再建である。
本尊は本堂に安置の阿弥陀三尊像。東京都では浅草の浅草寺に次ぐ古刹である。

Zoshigaya Kishibojin ~A Quiet Temple in Tokyo~ [iPhone 4S/HD]
Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of Tokyo? It would be a good idea to visit a Buddhist temple or a Shinto shrine for relaxing your mind.
There are thousands of temples and shrines in the giant metropolis. Zoshigaya Kishibojin, one of them, is close to Ikebukuro area. You can feel the quiet atmosphere at the worship place located only 1 km away from the crowded town.
The surrounding old residential area is also calm. Strolling around there, you could feel nostalgic even if you had never lived there.

A walking tour through Kyoto Botanical Gardens in Japan
The Kyoto Botanical Garden (京都府立植物園 Kyōto Furitsu Shokubutsuen, 240,000 m² - 59.3 acres), also known as the Kyoto Prefectural Botanical Garden, is a major botanical garden with conservatory located next to the Kamo River, Hangi-cho Simogamo, Sakyō-ku, Kyoto, Japan.
The garden was first established in 1924, fell into disuse in 1946, and was restarted in 1961. As of 2007, it contains about 120,000 plants representing some 12,000 species.
The garden also contains a very substantial conservatory complex (4,612 m²) containing about 25,000 specimens representing 4,500 species. It is a set of rooms shaped to resemble the nearby Kinkaku-ji Temple and Kyoto's northern mountains, built of glass with iron frames, and opened in 1992.
