» THE RESTAURANTS + FOOD
1. CHAUDHARY NAMKEEN: Mirchi Vada
ADDRESS: 119-120, 2nd B Road, Sardarpura, Jodhpur, Rajasthan 342003
OPEN: 11AM - 8PM
Mirchi vada, a popular Rajasthani snack or breakfast, are green chilies filled with spicy potatoes, dipped in batter and fried. We went to Chaudhary Namkeen, a family-owned restaurant that has been serving mirchi vada using their secret masala recipe for four generations.
????MAKE MIRCHI VADA: Boil potatoes, cool and mash them. Chaudhary Namkeen then adds their secret masala (using ingredients such as dry lemon powder, chilli powder, asafoetida, turmeric and salt) into the mashed potatoes. Grind the lentil and, using water, salt and red chili powder, create the batter. Cut a slit down the center of the chillies, add the mashed potato mixture and coat with freshly ground gram flour batter, allowing them to cook from the inside. Fry. Eat. To cut the saltiness and spice, many people eat mirchi vada with bread.
PRICE: 25 cents/17Rs per piece
__
2. GYPSY RESTAURANT: Gulab Jamun Ki Sabzi
ADDRESS: 689, 9th C Rd, Sardarpura, Jodhpur, Rajasthan 342003
OPEN: 12PM - 1:45PM, 7PM - 10:30PM
Jodhpur is the highest consumer of ghee (clarified butter) in India. Rather than a typical onion/tomato-based curry, Jodhpur is known for using dairy products. Gulab jamun are a milk-solid-based sweet, typically eaten as a dessert; however, in Rajasthan, instead of soaking gulab jamun balls in sugar syrup, they cook them in a gravy made from nuts and tomato to create gulab jamun ki sabzi.
????MAKE GULAB JAMUN KI SABZI: Combine refined flour, mawa (milk solid) and cumin seeds and roll them into balls. Fry the rolled balls in ghee, then soak them in water for roughly 15 min, until they become soggy. In a wok, add ghee, cumin seeds, hung curd, dessicated coconut, turmeric, garam masala, salt, red chilli powder, mawa and cook.
PRICE: $5/367Rs for thali buffet platter of 31 items; $10-12/800-900Rs per kg, if only gulab jamun ki sabzi
__
3. SHASTRI CIRCLE MARKET: Shastri Circle Market is an ideal spot to take a break and sample a variety of local foods after a long day of exploring Jodhpur. We tried pani puri and a special chaat.
OPEN: 5PM - 9PM
PANI PURI
Pani puri is a wheat puffed crisp filled with a mixture of boiled potatoes, boiled black channa (pulse), salt and red chilli powder. Top off this tasty snack by filling it with flavored water and enjoy!
PRICE: 27 cents/20Rs per plate (8 pieces)
THE GIRLFRIEND CHAAT
Chaat is a savory snack typically served at roadside tracks from stalls or food carts. The stall where we stopped offers a unique Girlfriend Chaat, known for its intense spice. True love is is put to the test by challenging your partner to eat this insanely spicy snack. It’s a mean test, trust me.
????MAKE THE GIRLFRIEND CHAAT: Starting with baked wheat cups, add green chillies, Kashmiri red chilli powder, Rajasthani red chilli powder, black salt, chaat masala, garam masala, gram flour shavings, tamarind chutney, gram flour fried balls of different colors, pressed fried chickpeas, tomato and coriander. Eat and prepare for the heat.
PRICE: 40 cents/30Rs per piece

Today we are in Jodhpur India and are on the hunt to search for the best places to visit in Jodhpur. We started at Mehrangarh Fort which is a must visit while in Jodhpur. Once finished we set out to find the best rooftop restaurant in Jodhpur and came across Bluebird restaurant which we highly recommend for an unforgettable night. On the way to the restaurant we found Toorji Ka Jhalra which is a step well right near the restaurant and is a fantastic place to relax and watch the locals enjoying the surroundings.

In this episode of Jodhpur Street Food tour, we covered the traditional Rajasthani thali at Gypsy Restaurant. Moving on to try the best chai in town at Bhati Tea Stall. Next, we had the most sought after street food of Jodhpur - Mirchi Vada.
We tried some unique street dishes like Masala mayonnaise omelette near Ghantaghar, chicken silly - crispy fried chicken, the creation of Al baik and finally Kashmiri chicken which has nothing to do with Kashmiri cuisine at Jammu and Kashmir Hotel near the railway reservation counter.

Jodhpur Blue City of India | Places to visit in Jodhpur | Rajasthan Tourism | Savvy Fernweh
This is How to Road Trip Delhi to Jodhpur. From Mehrangarh to Old Blue City of India this 3 days Jodhpur travel itinerary and travel guide will make sure you experience the Rajasthan's very best.
Jodhpur is popularly known as blue city of India because the houses are majorly painted blue in the old city, specially around Mehrangarh (fort). We went for heritage walk in the blue city. As we walked through the narrow uphill lanes, with houses painted in blue, some palace gates and everyday life of locals, we listened to their histories and modern life. Well, the story goes like this. When the fort was built, Maharaja called for the brahmins from nearby areas for their engagement in various work in the fort. Certain areas in close proximity to the fort were given to them to build houses and stay. Hence this small settlement of Jodhpur is also known as Brahmapuri.
Now Jodhpur remains relatively hot throughout the year with bright sun and hot temperature. So, Jodhpur is also called Sun City. Soon the brahmans realised that it is getting very uncomfortable and they thought of a way of calming the temperature down by painting the walls with soothing blue color.
Do you know why white color was avoided ? because, in bright sunshine white often affects the eyesight.

Jodhpur City Guide | India Travel Video in Rajasthan
Join us as we visit Jodhpur in this city travel guide covering the best things to do in the 'Blue City' of Rajasthan, India. Our travel video in Rajasthan (राजस्थान ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ) covering the 'sun city' focusses on visiting Mehrangarh Fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) for some incredible views of the city and heading over to the Sardar Market (सरदार बाजार) nearby the Ghanta Ghar clock tower of Rajasthan where you can find great places to shop and grab Rajasthani cuisine (राजस्थानी खाना) and a saffron lassi. We especially recommend Jhankar restaurant where we had the best Rajasthani Thali (थाली) and regular Thali during our entire India travels. Jodhpur (जोधपुर) is also worth exploring on foot or tuk-tuk where you can just get lost down the myriad of colorful alleys. For dinner we suggest rooftop views at a restaurant where you can clearly see Mehrangarh Fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) lit up at night. It is just as spectacular by night as it is by day.
Things to do in Jodhpur Travel Guide:
1) Mehrangarh Fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) for incredible views of Jodphur
2) Mehrangarh Fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) for souvenir shopping, lunch and visiting museums
3) Autorickshaw ride around Jodhpur to really experience 'The Blue City'
4) Rajasthani cuisine (राजस्थानी खाना) ordering Rajasthani Thali (थाली) and saffron lassi (लस्सी)
5) Visit Ghanta Ghar clock tower of Rajasthan and Sardar Market (सरदार बाजार) for shopping, people watching and great food
Rajasthan (राजस्थान ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ)
6) JHANKAR Choti Haveli Restaurant for our favorite Indian food in Jodhpur
7) Rooftop dining for views of Mehrangarh Fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) at night

Jodhpur City Guide | India Travel Series in Rajasthan Video Transcript:
Our first stop in Jodhpur was Mehrangarh Fort, which is one of the biggest forts in India. The fort sits on a rocky hill overlooking the city and it pretty much dominates the skyline with its imposing walls. Admission to the fort itself is free, but if you’ve come all the way here, you’ll want to pay the admission to visit the palaces which now act as a museum.
Within the fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) you can also visit the ramparts, see the old cannons, and get some overhead views of the city which will quickly help you realize why Jodhpur (जोधपुर) is nicknamed the Blue City.
Then, after all that food and drink, it was finally time to get lost in the blue maze that is Jodhpur.
So right now we have ended up at the Sardar Market (सरदार बाजार) just around the clock tower (Ghanta Ghar). And I would say this is both a local market and a tourist market. You can get produce and like everyday things. Yeah, you see a lot of everyday like market stalls but you also see some more ones that are geared for tourists such as the ones where you can souvenirs, carpets and saris.
Jhankar in Jodhpur (जोधपुर). Oh, it was so good Actually it was one of the best meals we've had in India so far. Yeah. So we are heading back there for dinner. And it is all about Thali (थाली) tonight. We are going to get an original Thali (थाली) and a Rajasthani Thali (राजस्थानी खाना). Because we are in Rajasthan (राजस्थान ਰਾਜਸਥਾਨ) and they have a special Thali so we can't wait to try that out. Now it is off to find a little tuk-tuk. Alright, lead the way. Lead the way.
And that’s it for Jodhpur! Our two-day visit was short and sweet, but it was enough to get a taste of what the city is all about.
So that is a wrap from Jodhpur (जोधपुर). So we had a really good time in the Blue City. Um, it was only two days but I felt like we did quite a bit. Did you enjoy it? Yeah, the fort (मेहरानगढ़ का दुर्ग) was magnificent and the blue city was all it was supposed to be. Yes, so now we're moving on to Jaipur. We're just waiting at the train station. So we're going to catch our train. It is about a 6 hour journey. So relatively not too long but uh yeah can't wait to update you when we get there. Ciao for now.
This is part of our Travel in India video series showcasing Indian food, Indian culture and Indian cuisine.
