This haulage trolley system built in 1926 by British engineer Col. Betty for carrying construction material of Shanan power house reservoir and tunnel from Jogindernagar to Barot ( district Mandi , Himachal Pradesh , India ) . It is a unique type of trolley based on pulley system . control room is at top of hill and use a huge motor to operate trolley . This trolley takes you from Jogindernagar to Barot from height of 4130 ft. to 8300 ft to Head gear , topmost station of haulage trolley , from there trolley goes down to Barot . It has four stations and only one station is operate-able currently ie it is in bad shape and rusting . this trolley can be used for tourism purpose but govt. is doing nothing for such a big attraction . If any news channel seeing it or any people can do anything for it , please save it from diminishing or we will loose such thing which has capability for becoming a national heritage site .

Barot Valley is 66 km from Mandi. The weather in the month of April, may remains cool and u need to take ur sweaters along with you but if u want to experience snowfall then visit this place in December , January and February. It will give goose bumps !!
Joginder nagar is also a city of Mandi district known for its 3 T (train, trolley and trout fish) and also Joginder nagar is the city of entire Asia which have 3 hydro power projects of its own!
We also visited Shanon power station which is the India’s first power station of Megawatts capacity.

In this video we will take you on a wonderful ride on vintage haulage trolley at Joginder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh. This engineless trolley scales the mountain with the help of a metal cable. A powerful electric motor installed at the hilltop pulls the trolley up. The gradient or the slope on the way goes up to 48 degrees. This hair-raising experience makes you forget everything else while you are in the trolley.
This British era vintage funicular mountain train project was set up to connect Joginder Nagar valley with Barot Valley by British engineer Colonel Batty. The project set up in 1928 has six section but now only two sections are functional. A visit to this project is bound to leave any first time tourist mesmerised and marvelling over the limits of human thought and endeavour.

About the KANGRA VALLEY RAILWAY (KVR) :-
Presenting to you some highlights from my small visit to this 2 feet 6 inches narrow gauge (NG) railway network of Indian Railways in Himachal Pradesh, known as Kangra Valley Railway (KVR). This NG section lies in the sub-Himalayan region of Kangra Valley & covers a distance of 164 kms from Pathankot, Punjab to Jogindernagar in Himachal Pradesh via Baijnath Paprola. This gorgeous railway network which falls under Firozpur division of Northern Railway (NR), was commissioned in 1929. The train runs close to the Dhauladhar mountain range of the great Himalayas. The highest point on this line is at Ahju station at an elevation of 1,290 meters (4,230 ft) from the sea level. The construction of KVR began on 2nd May 1926 and the line was opened for traffic on 1st April, 1929. From 1942 to 1954 there was no train service east of Nagrota. The railway section between Nagrota & Jogindernagar was opened for public service on 15th April, 1954 by Shri. Lal Bahadur Shastri, the then Minister for Railways & Transport. KVR was originally built to serve the upcoming hydro-electric powerhouse up in the mountains.
When the 'Maharana Pratap Sagar reservoir' or the 'Pong dam lake' was constructed between 1973 to 1975, the line had to be partially diverted between Jawanwala Shahr & Guler stations into higher grounds along the eastern shore of this new reservoir. As a result, Anur, Jagatpur & Mangwal stations on old line were abandoned & several new stations were opened later on new alignment.

0:28 = Pathankot Junction bound 52472 Passenger train with just 3 coaches departing from Jogindernagar in early morning, powered by #236 PTK ZDM4A,
5:30 = Arriving at the highest point on this section, Ahju station which is situated at an elevation of 1,290 meters (4,230 ft) from the sea level,
8:55 = Arriving at Baijnath Paprola,
9:39 = #236 PTK ZDM4A is detached at Baijnath Paprola & #191 PTK ZDM3 is attached for further journey till the destination; Pathankot,
9:50 = 4 coaches are attached at Baijnath Paprola for onward journey till the destination; Pathankot,
11:25 = First crossing of the journey at Baijnath Paprola; 52471 Pathankot-Jogindernagar Passenger arrives behind #232 PTK ZDM4A,
11:57 = 4 coaches are removed form the rake of 52471 by #236 PTK ZDM4A at Baijnath Paprola & only 3 coaches are sent to Jogindernagar,
12:04 = Departing from Baijnath Paprola,
17:11 = Arriving at Palampur Himachal,
22:25 = Second crossing of the journey at Nagrota; 52465 Pathankot-Jogindernagar Passenger arrives behind #190 PTK ZDM3,
24:19 = Arriving at Kangra for third crossing of the journey; 52475 Pathankot-Baijnath Paprola NG Express powered by #198 PTK ZDM4A named CHHATRAPATI,
29:54 = Breath-taking view of the train negotiating the huge & tall bridge on Bathu Khad where 2 small rivers meet,
30:44 = Arriving at Jwalamukhi Road,
33:06 = Arriving at Guler for forth crossing of the journey; 52473 Pathankot-Jogindernagar Passenger arrives behind #223 PTK ZDM4A. From Guler, the train travels on the banks of the reservoir / dam for many Kms,
33:52 = Remains of the old alignment,
38:36 = Arriving at Harsar Dehri for the fifth & final crosing of the journey; 52467 Pathankot-Baijnath Paprola Pssenger powered by #233 PTK ZDM4A,
41:25 = Arriving at Dalhousi Road,
42:04 = Curving into Pathankot Junction to end this magnificent journey. #228 PTK ZDM4A with empty coaches in the yard. Distant view of PTK NG DLS, NR.
43:42 = 52469 Pathankot-Baijnath Paprola Pssenger ready to begin its journey from Pathankot Jn. behind #178 PTK ZDM3.

This journey takes approx 1 hours. Fare from Jogindernagar to Palampur is just Rs. 10/-.
The Kangra Valley Railway lies in the sub-Himalayan region of Kangra Valley and covers a distance of 164 km from Pathankot, Punjab to Joginder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh, India. The highest point on this line is at Ahju station at an elevation of 1,290 meters (4,230 ft).
The railway line was planned in May 1926 and commissioned in 1929. The line has two tunnels, one of which is 250 ft and the other 1,000 ft in length. Trains on this narrow gauge line are pulled by small and less powerful engines than on a broad gauge main line, therefore steep ascents had to be avoided. But instead of expensively boring through the mountains on a straight way, a much longer right-of-way further south was chosen that allowed gentle slopes. From 1942 to 1954 there was no train service east of Nagrota.
When the Maharana Pratap Sagar was constructed, the line had to be diverted between Jawanwala Shahr and Guler into higher grounds along the eastern shore of the new reservoir. In 1973, the section between these two stations, along with Anur, Jagatpur and Mangwal stations was abandoned, and the new alignment with several new stations opened three years later. Indian Railways has identified Pathankot-Jogindernagar route to be converted into 1,676 mm (5 ft 6 in) broad gauge and to extend it to Mandi, and eventually to Ladakh via a new Bilaspur–Mandi–Leh line.
