Day 39 John Deere Factory Tour and Hansen Dairy Farm Tour Waterloo Iowa USA Road Trip Part 2
On Todays Road trip we tour the John Deere Factories in Waterloo Iowa and the Hansen’s Farm Fresh Dairy Farm.
Today I got a tour of Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy and boy did I learn about how much work it is to be a dairy farmer, how much fun it is and how different it is! It was such an eye opening experience and the food was delicious. I got to make butter, milk a cow, hold a kangaroo and eat some fabulous ice cream!!!
Then in all of Nebraska and Iowa I got to learn more about a farmers life and about a truckers life, 2 very tough jobs and under appreciated.
I hope that you all get a chance to travel, experience a dairy farm and step outside your comfort zone. It will open new opportunities, change your view on life and at the very least make you more knowledgeable and valuable in anything you want to achieve!
As always let me know if I can ever be of service to you. I'm here for anyone who wants to get out there and grow!!!
Let's start a movement. Traveling before or while in college should be commonplace and expected. The power of travel is life-changing and has the potential to enhance society overall. When you travel you learn AMAZING things about yourself, the people around you, the world around you and the opportunities there are.
Without travel I argue that you will never realize your fullest potential because there is so much that you are missing out. Traveling even the smallest of distances will change the way your mind thinks and lead to what society needs most, people who have found a passion, are pursuig it and discovering breakthrough technologies, theories, lifestyles, careers and more.
In Europe this is already commonplace to take a semester, summer, month or year off to explore the EU before or during college. I want to make it commonplace in the United States of America as well. It is possible to do it on any budget and I help people learn how to make it a reality. Find out more at:

John Deere C-2 Building, Waterloo
The John Deere C-2 Building in Waterloo won the 2019 William J. Wagner Award from the State Historic Preservation Office of Iowa. The annual award recognizes the historic preservation project that best exemplifies use of the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation.
Waterloo's C-2 Building was built in 1947 as factory in a large complex for the world's largest tractor plant in the world, the John Deere Tractor company. Today, the six-story, 200,000-square-foot building is one of only three remaining original buildings from the former factory complex. This former factory was reborn in 2018 when a developer turned it into a hotel. One challenge of the rehabilitation was that the windows were too high to see out, so the architects raised the floor to allow hotel guests a better view and, simultaneously, hide the ductwork and wiring underfoot. The hotel, a Courtyard by Marriott, is an excellent example of adaptive reuse and provides a destination for business and family travelers. It also provides 120 jobs for the local workforce and houses a restaurant and bar.

John Deere celebrates 100 Years in Waterloo-Cedar Falls, IA

John Deere Announces Layoff in Waterloo
WATERLOO, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)--One of the biggest employers in the Waterloo area is laying off more than 400 employees.
John Deere holds a huge significance for many in the Cedar Valley community.
John Deere has been here over a hundred years and came to Waterloo when they purchased the Waterloo tractor company and began manufacturing operations here, said Steve Dust, President and CEO of the Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber.
John Deere is our life blood, really, in Waterloo. It has been for a long time, said Mayor Buck Clark, which makes the announcement of impending layoffs a big deal.
Of course it's a big deal. I mean four hundred people in any economy and certainly ours that's very significant for over four hundred families, Dust said.
According the company, they plan to layoff approximately 460 employees who work in its Waterloo operations by October 20th.
Certainly it's not good news. Having said that, with the announcement a couple of weeks ago that John Deere was laying off in other parts of the state and other facilities this isn't a total surprise, said Mayor Clark.
He says the city's main concern at this point is helping those who will soon be jobless find a new path.
This is a bump in the road, but it's not going to set Waterloo as a community back. We will continue moving forward as we have in the past few years, he said.
Deere officials say the layoffs are in response to a slow market demand for their products.
They plan to reduce production of agricultural equipment for the rest of the year.

Illinois Adventure #1703 John Deere Historic Site
In 1836, John Deere, a blacksmith recently transplanted from Vermont, set up shop in the small Rock River town of Grand Detour, Illinois. Deere, who was enterprising and innovative, met many disheartened farmers who were discouraged by their efforts to cultivate the sticky Midwestern soil.
Today, visitors to the John Deere Historic Site can watch a blacksmith at work in a replica of the blacksmith's shop where John Deere made that historic plow. The site also features the home John Deere built, a gift shop, and an archaeological exhibit that shows the site of John Deere's original blacksmith shop.

John Deere Treating Capital Well Award March 2018: KWWL Television, Inc.
KWWL finished a multi-year, multi-million dollar renovation of its facility in Waterloo, Iowa in 2017. The facility, formerly known as the Overland-Hanson building, is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. Built in 1916, it housed an Overland car distributor and became KWWL’s home in 1958.
KWWL leadership decided to rehabilitate the old building instead of more quickly moving to a facility in Cedar Falls which was virtually turnkey. Even though renovation was the more difficult option, the decision was made for two reasons. First, company leadership believed in being downtown: as a local broadcaster and conscious of the history, leaving downtown Waterloo didn’t feel right. Second, they did not want to expand the perception of east Waterloo as stagnant by leaving an empty 50,000-square-foot building.
Historic tax credits at the state and federal levels were employed as well as an agreement with the City of Waterloo to restore the structure. Energy tax credits were the result of improved energy efficiency of the building, including the installation of more than 50 energy-efficient windows and LED lighting throughout.
The building had strong bones, but everything else was in terrible condition. Every element of the rehabilitation was designed to “make new what was once old.” This included all mechanical, plumbing, and electrical architecture to support investment in broadcast technology. The result is a stunning, state-of-the-art digital broadcasting facility which may be the best in the state.
The finished project, which cost nearly $10 million, has dramatically improved the appearance of the entire block and ensured KWWL’s presence in downtown Waterloo for decades.

Bernie Sanders For President 2016 Waterloo, IA EW2 mp4
Waterloo is a city in and the county seat of Black Hawk County, Iowa, United States.[4] As of the 2010 United States Census the population decreased by 0.5% to 68,406;[5] a recent 2014 Census estimates the population at 68,364, making it the sixth-largest city in the state.[3] Waterloo is part of the Waterloo – Cedar Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is the more populous of the two cities.
There were two extended periods of rapid growth over the next 115 years. From 1895 to 1915, the population increased from 8,490 to 33,097, a 290% increase. From 1925 to 1960, population increased from 36,771 to 71,755. The 1895 to 1915 period was a time of the rapid growth in manufacturing, rail transportation and wholesale operations. During this period the Waterloo Gasoline Traction Engine Company moved to Waterloo and shortly after Rath Packing Company moved from Dubuque. Another major employer throughout the first two-thirds of the 20th century was the Illinois Central Railroad. Among the others was the less-successful brass era automobile manufacturer, the Maytag-Mason Motor Company.[7]
On June 7, 1934, bank robber Tommy Carroll had a shoot-out with the FBI when he and his wife stopped to pick up gas. Accidentally parking next to a police car and wasting time dropping his gun and picking it back up, Carroll was forced to flee into an alley where he was shot. Carroll was then taken to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, where he died shortly after.
Waterloo suffered particularly hard in the agricultural recession of the 1980s, due to the major employers at the time being heavily rooted in agriculture. In particular, John Deere, the area's largest employer, cut 10,000 jobs, and the Rath meatpacking plant closed altogether, losing 2500 jobs. It is estimated Waterloo lost 14% of its population during this time.[8] Today the city enjoys a broader industrial base, as city leaders have sought to diversify the industrial and commercial mix. Deere remains a strong presence in the city, but employs only roughly one-third the number of people it did at its peak.
