Yes, surfs up at Josiah's Bay on Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, Caribbean! Good friend Alex Dick-Reid started a new surfing school on the beach in Josiah's Bay, and all are welcome regardless of age as long as you can swim! (but he warns that over the age 80 requires parental consent) ;)
Come along as we spend an afternoon catching some cool shots (and waves) on the beach with Alex's instructors teaching several students how to surf on a beautiful sunny day here in the BVI!

The Northern coast has the best beaches on the island, including Smuggler's Cove, Long Bay, Cane Garden Bay, Brewer's Bay, Josiah's Bay, and Lambert beach. In addition to beaches, marine activities such as sailing, surfing, scuba diving, kite boarding, and windsurfing are available. Many tourists visit the historic sites and hike in parks. The island is visited regularly by large cruise ships.
Although the British Virgin Islands (BVI) are under the British flag, it uses the US dollar as its official currency due to its proximity to and frequent trade with the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The island is home to many offshore companies that do business worldwide. Financial services are a major part of the country's economy.
Local tradition recounts that Christopher Columbus named the island Tórtola, meaning turtle dove in Spanish. In fact, Columbus named the island Santa Ana. Dutch colonists called it Ter Tholen, after a coastal island that is part of the Netherlands. When the British took over, the name evolved to Tortola.

In this video I share with you 5 beautiful beaches on Tortola British Virgin Islands. Note: Long Bay Beach is on Beef Island.
????Lambert Beach - located on the northern side of the island, very nice beach.
????Long Bay Beach, Beef Island - located on Beef Island, a very beautiful beach. The cruise ship tourists are taken here, its also a popular beach with residents and locals.
???? Baughers Bay - located on the southern coast by the main road. I had a short swim here once and never returned. Its too close to the main road for my liking.
????Brandywine Bay - located on the southern coast by the main road. Its a beautiful beach but not normally used by residents and locals. I never swam here before - too close to the main road for my liking. Almost every morning the goats you see in the video will walk over to the beach and enjoy the environment!!!

Today on our Norwegian bliss adventure we find our selves on the British virgin island known as Tortola
Surfing in the BVIs? Yes, you can do that too! (SURF EDIT!)
SURF EDIT!: We had so much great surfing footage from our recent trip to the BVIs that we had to create a small surf movie. As a surfer who spent the past two decades trying to get barreled in California and Hawaii I was blown away by the quality of the surf we found (almost by accident) in the BVIs. This was exactly how I like it. Mellow, waist to shoulder high, loooong. And every now and then a barrel. Sorry Puerto Rico, this might be our favorite place to surf in the Caribbean!
So the good news is that if you are headed to the BVI then you might catch some great surf there - but the bad news is you now need to bring a surfboard. Have a good trip!

Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed a Lagoon 380 named Honeymoon halfway around the world from the East Coast of the US to Sydney, Australia.
