CEO Forum 2018: Disrupt or be disrupted. That is the question!
Innovation, research, sharing economy, start-ups, industry 4.0, circular economy, digital transformation… We can all witness that our businesses are going through a new area of disruption and change. For some of them, opportunities are enormous and they succeed in adopting a new business model that helps them to evolve or to reinvent themselves. For others, challenges are just too complex and they slowly fade away.
Is your business a disruptor, being disrupted or both? Can you see where disruption is coming from? Can you plan for it, get ready for it or even use it for growth and expansion or should you just wait and see what will happen? Our speakers surely do have extensive experience in this area and will reflect on disruption as they live it in their respective industries.
Our guest speakers are:
• Véronique Hoffeld, Managing Partner, Loyens & Loeff Luxembourg
• Romain Hoffmann, Managing Director. BP Luxembourg
•Marc Molitor, Co-Founder & Chairman, Doctena Luxembourg
• Paul Peckels, CEO, Saint-Paul Luxembourg
Andy Adams, Chair of the BCC Business & Innovation Group will moderate the discussion.
LaToya Ruby Frazier about her exhibition at Mudam Luxembourg
LaToya Ruby Frazier
27.04 – 22.09.2019
@ Mudam Luxembourg
The Contemporary Art Museum of Luxembourg
Coinciding with May 2019, the European Month of Photography, Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean presents a monographic exhibition for one of the most important photographers of her generation, LaToya Ruby Frazier (*1982). Since the early 2000s this American artist has developed a documentary practice that is both personal and engaged with the social, political, and economic realities of the United States.
Frazier's photographic series The Notion of Family, was developed between 2001 and 2014 around three generations of women – her grandmother, mother and herself – witnessing the decline of her hometown of Braddock, the former steel capital of the suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, that would subsequently become a ghost town. Based on personal experience, the series makes visible a collective history that is universal in its scope. Frazier has said: Braddock is everywhere.
For her exhibition at Mudam, Frazier presents The Notion of Family with two more recent bodies of work that continue her focus on the working classes and the interaction between personal life and sociopolitical issues. On the Making of Steel Genesis: Sandra Gould Ford (2017) is the outcome of a close collaboration with Sandra Gould Ford, a photographer and writer who was employed in the steel industry of Pittsburgh and who documented life in factories that were closing down. The second series, Et des terrils un arbre s’élèvera (2016-2017), is the result of an ambitious project near Mons, in Borinage Belgium, created in collaboration with former miners and their families.
Biographical note
LaToya Ruby Frazier was born in 1982 in Braddock, Pennsylvania, USA. Her works have been the subject of solo exhibitions at the MAC's in Mons (2017), CAPC in Bordeaux (2016), Carré d'art in Nîmes (2015), Brooklyn Museum in New York and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston (2013). She has participated in international biennials, such as the 56th Venice Biennale (2015), the 8th Busan Biennale (2014) and the 76th Whitney Biennial (2012). Frazier was awarded the Gordon Parks Foundation Award in 2016 and the MacArthur Fellowship in 2015 as well as, the Infinity Award by the International Center of Photography of New York for her book The Notion of Family (Aperture, 2014).

BUSHWICK BASEMENT
Being famous is a bunch of people you don't know
Having opinions about you,
Begrudging your highs and loving your lows.
Being famous is lying in a hospital bed
Listening to doctors and nurses
Discussing if you're dead.
Being famous is getting everything you want
Then finding out that you're a ghost
That all you can do is haunt.
Being famous is lying in a shallow grave
Pretending all your money
Is the soul you get to save.
Just last month I was a big Art Star
But I'm going down to the underground
Cuz that's where the worms are.
Bushwick basement.
Everybody has the art dream.
Most people get it beaten out of them
Before they turn thirteen.
Everybody has the art dream,
But when you go to the art schools
They turn it into Burger King.
Everybody has the art dream.
They always want you to live out
The vision that they've seen.
Everybody has the art dream.
By the time you make it to the top
You'll know what it really means.
Got myself a profile in the New York Times,
But I had a career suicide note in between the lines.
Bushwick basement.
My artistic freedom committed suicide in jail,
And the only juice I get comes from kissing that third rail.
Bushwick basement.

Torrington Commons: Jewel in the Crown - NIA Multimedia Project Great Torrington
Northern Devon Nature Improvement Area digital multi media arts project.
In this short film we talk to members of the Great Torrington Commons Conservators to find out what their local landscape means to them.
The Northern Devon Nature Improvement Area (NIA) is a pioneering project covering the greater part of the Torridge River catchment. The project works with landowners and local communities to help support, protect and connect wildlife habitats and enhance recognition that our natural heritage underpins all our lives. A healthy network of wildflower grasslands, broadleaved woodlands and clean rivers isn’t just good for wildlife. They provide food and fuel, help improve water quality, reduce flooding and offer special places for healthy outdoor recreation where human spirits are uplifted and inspired.
In addition to the more traditional work with landowners, schools programme and community work, the Nature Improvement Area Project partner Devon Wildlife Trust worked with local communities on a multi-media arts project.
The resulting short films are based on “My living landscape” – a creative expression of what the local landscape, associated wildlife & understanding of ecosystem services means to each group.

My name is Alex and I study at the University of Essex in Colchester. I finished my masters this year in Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling. I started this internship on the fifth of November, so it's been almost eight months, and it's been very very helpful, very very helpful because the university side gives you all the theory, and obviously the internship gives you all the practical, and you learn new skills and you know, you learn how to deal with different situations as well. I found out about this program through the university, so they have an internship program. And I already knew about TTC because they're the only translation agency close by that I knew, so as soon as I saw TTC was opening, had some internship, offers a program, I just jumped on the occasion. TTC helped me discover different skills that I had, it helped me build my confidence. For instance, they enabled me to be an interpreter for a day to go in a hospital. You know, and help and be an interpreter professionally. Also doing all these videos really helped me build my confidence, and I really like the media side so hopefully, I would love to become a professional subtitler. Normally I do invoicing and quality checking. Some interpreting jobs. I've done some translation jobs before, so it's pretty varied. When you apply for a job, the first thing they look for is if you had experience. Yeah okay, the grades is great, but really they want you to show them that you are able to combine your studies with a job. Make sure you give one hundred percent, because you never know what could the outcome be. You might get the job, you might not. I mean I was lucky enough to work with a brilliant team and to get the job, but in a lot of cases, it doesn't happen, but still, you need to remember that you are doing it for yourself and not for anybody else. That's the best advice I could really give. That's why I would really encourage other companies to give students or other people this opportunity, so they can then thrive and flourish and hopefully be successful in their future life.

Lyrics-
The day is there but I can't rise - the truth still hovers in my room
giving me reason to waste time - cause all sense went away with you
Mind's in retro - every thought - when is the healing supposed to start?
throw the blanket over me - I'm hiding out - wow wow
I saw you when I was about to fall and everything just aligned
Then something goes and you don't really know - and before you know you slide
I always remember when we were strong
the mountains we climbed the waves we rode
I want to know, what can I do?
Wish I could stop you before you go
We put it all out there - we were maybe too close, without a strife
We became each others saboteurs - just did not realize
I saw you when I was about to fall and everything just aligned
Then something goes and you don't really know - and before you know you slide
I always remember when we were strong
the mountains we climbed the waves we rode
I want to know, what can I do?
Wish I could stop you before you go
We dug down deep we spoke and still it all went broke
Now I realize I can't stop you - you go
(Same line instrumental)
I saw you when I was about to fall and everything just aligned
Then something goes and you don't really know
and before you know you slide
I always remember when we were strong
the mountains we climbed the waves we rode
I want to know, what can I do?
Wish I could stop you before you go
Wish I could stop you before you go
Wish I could stop you before you go

Golden Valley apartment complex magnifies luxury living
At the intersection of I-394 and Highway 100, one of Golden Valley's most visible high-rise apartments is just a few months from opening. It's one of several big rental housing projects underway in the city.
Offering views of the Minneapolis skyline, the six-story Talo Apartments are all about location, location, location.
We have the highway visibility, and we have this great access to downtown, but it's really nestled inside of a neighborhood, so that's a very unique characteristic of this site, said Kevin Foltz, managing director of Forum Real Estate Group, the Denver, Colo., developer of the Talo project.
When the first tower is completed on April 1, tenants at Talo will have access to a lazy river and pool as well as a zen garden and walking path. They're upscale amenities designed to attract new residents who have plenty choices when it comes to new rental housing options.
I think a lot of the demand was pent up during the Great Recession. Not only Golden Valley, but Edina, St. Louis Park, and other west metro communities felt that kind of sag a little bit, and then as the economy recovered, a bunch of projects kind of broke forth, said Jason Zimmerman, Golden Valley's planning manager.
More than six new rental projects with 1,500 total units are in various stages in Golden Valley. The Liberty town homes opened late summer, and nearly 200 Liberty apartments will open next year. And construction is just beginning for The Xenia, more than 350 apartments, which likely won't open until 2019.
When we approved these, we were definitely looking at attracting some new people. I think providing some housing options that weren't necessarily there before, especially with town homes and some of these larger apartment buildings, said Zimmerman.
At Talo Apartments, its name and its 303 apartments are expected to have broad appeal.
It means house in Finnish. It's really an homage to the Scandinavian roots of Minneapolis and it's surrounding areas, said Foltz.
With a Scandinavian style sauna and other wet and dry amenities, the project developer predicts both professionals and empty nesters will find a home at Talo.
Studio apartments start in the $1,300 range and rise to $2,000 and up for a two or three bedroom place.

MURK FLUID lyrics
Murky Murk Fluid. I'm turning into it.
I'm just a big puddle and you're walking right thru it!
My ART's ridin high i couldnt tell ya why
since every move Im makin is career suicide.
I'm kinda like a ghost. I'm scary and I'm lost.
I cut up celebrities to see who lost the most.
I take up lotsa space, with somebody else's face
cuz Its always been my dream to disappear without a trace.
I went to your Academy, they tried to beat it outa me.
They hurt the little artist living inside my chest cavity.
and now he wants revenge. He got him a syringe
and he filled it up with fluid from my latest murky binge.
Murk fluid!
I saw it in the city - the MOMA and the Whitney
They saved Picasso's cock and Jackson Pollock's kidneys.
I'm hoppin on this trend. Dissecting all my friends,
I dont have any talent but the drugs are kickin in.
I hate self expression. This isnt MY obsession.
I'm just a shiny mirror and I show you your reflection.
I dont need any famous. I dont care what my name is.
I only wanna make my art and shove it up your anus.
They say I'm TOO creative...I know what theyre afraid of.
I might cut em open just to find out what they made of.
Cuz I'm Marky Mark Flood! and My name is always mud!
and I walk around naked all covered with blood!
Murk fluid!
[I put Charlie sheens liver on a silver plate
And I looked into it and I saw my fate:
There was a big glob of fat where I turned into a star!
And all the cihhrosis was how I was gonna fall.]
I'd left all the blood splatter just where it fell
Cos every little drop has a story to tell;
One drop will be evil, one drop will be good,
Dont you go mix up the drops of the gorgons blood
or youll get
Murk fluid!
