Chongnyon Hotel (Youth Hotel) in Pyongyang - KTG
KTG shows you what the Chongnyon Hotel (Youth Hotel) in Pyongyang, North Korea (DPRK) is like.
This budget hotel was recently refurbished. It has a retro decor that looks straight out from a James Bond movie. Conditions are very good with indoor and outdoor swimming pools (this being very popular amongst North Koreans in the summer), Karaoke room, several bars, cafés, and an Air China office.
It is located by Kwangbok street (Kwangbok means Liberation in Korean) and has great views of residential areas in Pyongyang. In the sports village of Pyongyang, a walk around here is always interesting.
There used to be a burger place by it, but this has been closed down now. You can see more information about the Youth Hotel in Pyongyang in our following link:

“PEACE TRAIN” VIA PYONGYANG / KBS뉴스(News)
[Anchor Lead]
Koreans living in China are organizing a train service that will travel from Beijing to Seoul through Pyongyang. The so-called peace train service is part of the homecoming program that celebrates the two-year anniversary, of the April 27th inter-Korean declaration. Within the space of a month, nearly 400 Korean expats living in China and other places around the globe, have signed up for the service slated for late April of next year.
[Pkg]
Representatives of Koreans living in the city of Dalian, Liaoning Province in China have gathered to discuss the April 27th peace train project. Organized by overseas Koreans in China, the project celebrates the second anniversary of the inter-Korean declaration issued on April 27th. If the service is successfully set up, the train will depart from Beijing near the end of next April and travel through Dandong in China and Sinuiju and Pyongyang in North Korea before arriving in Seoul. The whole route is expected to take five days. Organizers are also reviewing an itinerary that departs from Shenyang.
[Soundbite] JEONG GWANG-IL(CHAIR, ORGANIZING COMMITTEE FOR PEACE TRAIN) : I think the Chinese government may want to travel between Pyongyang and Seoul on this train.
The train can carry 427 people and some 390 overseas Koreans have already signed up for the service within a month since the project was put together.
[Soundbite] KIM SEONG-SU(ORGANIZING COMMITTEE FOR PEACE TRAIN) : Koreans in China hope that this project will better connect South and North Korea and help their businesses thrive.
Since the April 27th peace train crosses the Demilitarized Zone, it must be approved by not only the two Koreas and China, but also the UN Command. The organizing committee says that North Korea has responded positively to the peace train service. In the end, however, the ambitious plan is likely to be affected by how the denuclearization talks progress between Pyongyang and Washington.

China envoy Song Tao says CPC looks to develop relations with Pyongyang
Song Tao, head of the Communist Party of China’s international liaison department, has visited Pyongyang as special envoy of President Xi Jinping. During talks with the secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Song said the CPC is looking to develop relations between the two parties.
Song's trip comes a week after US President Donald Trump visited Beijing, pressing for greater action to rein in DPRK’s controversial nuclear program. But is Song relaying a message to Pyongyang from Washington? Teng Jianqun, director of the American Studies Department at the China Institute of International Studies, Sung-Yoon Lee, a Kim Koo-Korea Foundation professor of Korean Studies at the Fletcher School at Tufts University and Jonathan D. Pollack, a senior fellow at the Center for East Asia Policy at the Brookings Institution, discuss the issue.

Consumer Inconvenience / KBS뉴스(News)
[Anchor Lead]
The government will place stronger business restrictions on airlines that are involved in criminal acts or social controversy. The Ministry of Transport plans to ease consumer inconveniences by conducting service assessments every five years on airlines' exclusive flight routes.
[Pkg]
Korean Air came under fire for a case of power abuse involving a daughter of its Chairman Cho Yang-ho. She was found to have thrown a glass of water at an employee. Asiana Airlines saw a disruption to its in-flight meal service on international flights this summer. They are now facing punishment on charges of tax evasion, smuggling and other offenses. However, the carriers have been slapped with no business penalties. The Ministry of Transport will ban airlines from applying for traffic rights for up to two years if they or their executives are found to have committed offenses, such as customs evasion, smuggling and illegal employment of foreigners. The ministry will impose a similar penalty on airlines in cases where even no illegalities are found if inspections show the airlines have caused massive social controversy. Those who are sentenced to prison terms for assault, breach of duty, embezzlement, tax evasion and contract irregularities will be banned from serving as airline executives for as long as five years.
[Soundbite] Jin Hyun-hwan(Ministry of Transport) : We took into consideration the fact that airline companies have frequently caused social controversy with owners' illegitimate managerial intervention when they are conducting business using state assets.
The ministry will conduct comprehensive assessments every five years on 60 exclusive flight routes operated by one airline. The assessments will analyze if the carriers take advantage of their monopoly statuses to overcharge fares or run flights only during high-demand seasons. With a special inspection underway on plane maintenance practices at nine domestic airlines, the transport ministry will devise

Into the DPRK - Pyongyang Marathon 2016
In April 2016, I ran a marathon in the DPRK.
I took it on as a prayer run for the ages in one of the darkest cities in the world... I ran the streets of Pyongyang, for the poor and powerless- for those who do not have the freedom to run.
In the process, I found healing, I found myself dreaming again, and learned more than I could imagine about the Father's heart for his people in NK.
These are the sights and sounds from my trip- including the marathon, my engagement with the locals, a trip to the DMZ, and more.
Questions and comments are welcome.
Enjoy!
