Kaeng Krachan and Phetchaburi
Kaeng Krachan is one of Thailand's largest national parks, running all the way to Myanmar; it is a haven for birdwatchers and campers. The Kaeng Krachan lake features, among other wildlife, swimming monkeys. A short way away there is the Phetchaburi River, to which the Kaeng Krachan dam is opened daily, causing intense rapids locals and tourists are pleased to use as a natural - though not entirely safe - water park. Further west toward Hua Hin is the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, a remote sanctuary for elephants and a rehabilitation home for the unloved and abused animals of Thailand. Among the residents are monkeys whose arms were devoured because it was believed that their consumed paws give immortality and gibbons used in the tourist trade. The Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand is not a zoo, but travelers are invited in small groups for daily guided tours around the facilities, which includes a lunch. All of this is reached easily from Bangkok by private car or by transfer from Phetchaburi. Those wishing to volunteer or donate to the Wildlife Friends Foundation may do so at wfft.org.

Kaeng Krachan was declared as a national park on 12 June 1981. Covering an area of 2914 km² it is the largest national park in Thailand. The park is not only part of the rainforest area north and south of the park in Thailand, but also part of the Western Forex Complex that covers 18,730 km² across 19 protected sites between Myanmar and Thailand. Kaeng Krachan National Park covers a reservoir and mainly rain forests with rich flora and fauna. Possibly Thailand's top bird- and butterfly-watching location, over 420 species of birds has been observed in the park boundaries which is the highest number of bird species in any national parks in Thailand. There are 57 known species of mammals and around 300 butterfly species.

A day trip to Thailands largest national park, Kaeng Krachan National Park Thailand on the border with Burma, a beautiful place, where I wanted to go back and spend a bushcraft style night, but the rangers told me, in no uncetain terms, NO, as the elephants would more than likely stamp me to death in the night!
I was happy enough, and lucky enough to see the butterflies and gibbons all the same.

We made a trip to Kaeng Krachan national park in January 2018. We stayed one night in tent at the Ban Krang campsite, to get a early morning walk in the djungle.

Heute fahren wir von Hua Hin nach Phetchaburi und besuchen den Kaeng Krachan Nationalpark in Thailand Hua Hin. Danach gehet es weiter zur Staumauer des Kaeng Krachan Sees und zum Schluss machen wir noch eine Bootsfahrt auf dem Kaeng Krachan See. Für diese Rundreise, mit Start in Hua Hin benötigt ihr ca. 5 Stunden, von Bangkok aus müsst ihr mit ca. 6 Stunden Reisezeit rechnen. Die Rundreise ist wirklich etwas Sehenswertes in Thailand
