Seiyo Kaimei School - Ehime - 開明学校 - 4K Ultra HD
Located in the center of Seiyo, in the Unomachi Uwa district, the Kaimei school was built in 1882 and is considered to be the oldest school in the whole Shikoku island. Thanks to its rare Giyōfū architecture style, which heavily resembles western style construction but used traditional Japanese building construction techniques, the Kaimei school was designated in 1997 as one of the important cultural properties in Japan.
Now turned into a museum, the Kaimei school gives you not only the chance to find out what kids learned at school more than a century ago but the school turned museum, features over 6,000 stored and displayed precious documents and school textbooks from the Edo through early Showa periods.

Située au centre de Seiyo, plus précisément dans le quartier de Unomachi Uwa, l’école Kaimei fut construite en 1882 et est considérée comme la plus ancienne école de toute l’île de Shikoku.
Grâce à son architecture rare de style Giyōfū, qui ressemble beaucoup au style occidental mais qui reste lié aux techniques de construction traditionnelles japonaises, le design de l’école Kaimei a été élaboré en 1997 comme une importante propriété culturelle du Japon.
Réaménagée aujourd’hui en musée, l’école Kaimei ne vous donne pas seulement la chance de vous plonger dans l’ambiance des écoliers il y a plus d’un siècle en arrière, mais aussi de vous présenter plus de 6 000 documents précieux comme des livres ou des documents administratifs de l’école sous l’ère Edo jusqu’au début de l’ère Showa.

Seiyo Uwa Museum of Folk Tools - Ehime - 宇和民具館 - 4K Ultra HD
The Uwa Museum of Folk Tools in Seiyo is the definition of how looks can be deceiving. Located just in front the Kaimei School you will find a tiny little government building which hides in its annex building a treasure of artifacts and tools, known as the Uwa Museum of Folk Tools.
Ranging from basic folk culture, toys, kitchenware, shoes, luggage and pretty much EVERYTHING you can think of, this museum has in store several thousand well-preserved items that will transport you from now to 50 and up to 100 years ago in Japan!

Seiyo Uwakome Museum - Ehime - 宇和米博物館 - 4K Ultra HD
Originally built in 1928, the Uwakome Museum, or in English: Rice Museum, was actually Seiyo’s largest school. With a unique design, this 109m long school features one of Japan’s longest corridors. Entirely built of wood, and no longer capable of coping with modern school standards, Seiyo City decided to turn this unique building into a museum dedicated to Japanese rice. If you’ve ever wondered how rice was planted, and harvested, as well as how tools changed from one decade to another the Uwakome Museum has all the answers and more!

Bâti en 1928, le musée Uwakome, comprenez ici “musée du riz”, était avant cela la plus grande école de Seiyo. Avec un aspect unique, cette école de 109 mètres de long tient en ses murs un des plus longs couloirs du Japon. Entièrement faite de bois, et trop ancienne pour respecter les normes modernes pour rester une école, la ville de Seiyo a décidé d’en faire un musée dédié au riz japonais. 川之江城（かわのえじょう）は、愛媛県四国中央市川之江町の鷲尾山（城山）にある日本の城である。伊予・讃岐・土佐・阿波を結ぶ交通の要衝である川之江の鷲尾山山頂に位置した川之江城は、南北朝時代から戦国時代にかけての城であり、別名仏殿城といわれるように本来は仏閣であった。昭和時代には本丸付近の石垣に僅かの名残りを留めるに過ぎなかった。しかし川之江市制施行30周年記念事業として、1984年から城山公園整備事業として、本丸跡に天守、涼櫓、櫓門、隅櫓、控塀などが建築された。
The castle was originally built as a fort for the Kohno clan by Dobi Yoshimasa in 1337. In 1342, the castle was attacked and taken over by Hosokawa Yoriharu. The castle was ruled by the Hosokawa until it fell to Chosakabe Motochika in 1582. After Hideyoshi subjugated Shikoku the lord of Kawanoe Castle changed frequently until it was abandoned by Kato Yoshiaki in 1611.

Featuring many small parks and Orangery Farms, Seiyo’s countryside could easily be mistaken for some Mediterranean countryside landscape. And if like ourselves you are very fond of oranges, please make sure to enjoy Seiyo’s amazing juicy and sweet Dekopon orange (twice as sweet as a regular orange).

Et si comme nous, vous adorez les oranges, n’oubliez pas de vous offrir une délicieuse et juteuse orange Dekopon (deux fois plus douce qu’une orange classique).

也許，將要失去的東西我們才會懂得去珍惜、去回味。隨着學校的結束，我們才開始關心她，一所歷史悠久而別具特色的「鄉村學校」。 傳統上那些位於郊外偏遠地方，由村民籌建，供鄰近村民子弟就讀的學校統稱為「鄉村學校」。 鄉村學校一般在五、六十年代由鄉村父老賢達和村民一起集資籌建。鄉村學校建立初時多為私校，也有部份前身為「私塾」。「私塾」即是現在我們俗稱的「卜卜齋」。 鄉村學校的校舍一般比較小，周遭沒有大型商場或娛樂設施，但卻擁有市區學校少有的大自然環境：抬頭是廣闊無邊的天空，四周是翠綠的園林，呼吸着的是清新的空氣，聆聽着的是鳥兒和昆蟲的叫聲......香港學生，少接觸大自然，鄉村學校就是最理想的大自然教室，也算是一種靈性的教育。 隨著城市的發展及出生率持續下降，造成鄉村學校收生不足，加上在政府強調「成本效益」的教育政策下，令鄉村學校逐步走向結束的命運。然而我們覺得辦教育的不是搞生意，鄉村學校也有她存在的價值，至少她在香港的教育史上也作過不少的貢獻。

Uchiko Tenjin Washi Factory - Ehime - 天神産紙工場 - 4K Ultra HD
An hour and half away by plane from Tokyo, Uchiko City, located in Ehime prefecture is a hidden gem that can only be found in Japan. While we have a lot coming up for you about Uchiko in the coming few weeks, we wanted to start this video tour of this wonderful city with the Tenjin Washi Factory where the famous Ozu washi is still made by hand.
Ozu Washi is said to have been manufactured since the Heian era (794-1185), and is mainly used for calligraphy paper, shoji sliding door screens, etc. but also for special application like for the Ikazaki Kite Battle kites. Famous for its quality the Ozu Washi has been made famous for its durability and evenness.
Also if you are interested seeing first hand how Ozu washi is made, know that the Tenjin Washi Factory is open to the public for a free workshop tour upon reservation!

Seiyo Suzaki Rock Formation - Ehime - 須崎 - 4K Ultra HD
Just an hour away from Seiyo center and its Unomachi Uwa district is the fishing port of Mikame. Although the fishing business is what drives the heart of Mikame, the city is also famous it's rock formation where you can see a gorgeous display of layers of sedimentary rock (strata) that align perfectly when seen at the correct angle, that gives the chance to people on the opposite side of the bay to see that the whole rock formation matches the shape of Buddha sleeping on its back.

A seulement une heure du centre de Seiyo et de son quartier Unomachi Uwa, on trouve le port de pêche de Mikame. Célèbre pour ses affaires liées à la pêche, Mikame est aussi très connue dans la région pour ses élevages de poissons qu’on trouve en grand nombre près de la baie.
Bien que le commerce de poissons soit ce qui nous conduit au coeur de Mikame, la ville est aussi célèbre pour ses formations rocheuses sur lesquelles on peut voir les différentes couches sédimentaires (strate) qui s’alignent parfaitement quand elles sont observées sous le bon angle. Les observateurs situés de l’autre côté de la baie peuvent même deviner les formes de Bouddha dormant sur le dos.
