Best of West Michigan 2015: Hiking or biking paths
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) Newschannel 3 is continuing to reveal the result of our Best of West Michigan 2015 poll. You weighed in on a number of topics, and tonight were looking at the best hiking or biking paths. After counting your votes, the number three hiking or biking path was the Kalamazoo Nature Center. Located just outside the city the Nature Center features 13 trails at all different skill levels, there are also some breath-taking views of the Kalamazoo River Valley. In second place was the Celery Flats in Portage. Beyond the historical area is a trail that stretches more than four miles, featuring a long, paved path under a canopy of lush trees. Its great for taking in some quick exercise right in the middle of the city. And in first place is the Kal-Haven Trail. The trail stretches for 34 impressive miles, connecting Kalamazoo and South Haven. The Kal-Haven Trail is a favorite among local bike riders and hikers. The trail follows the path of an old railroad, crossing over bridges, passing through small towns and by historic sites. For living in Kalamazoo, its a wonderful access to nature and to get out and exercise, said Rod Carpenter. Its a friendly trail, said Margaret Hamilton. Its easy for recreational type riders who only get out every now and then. We see lots of cyclists, lots of walkers, lots of runners, lots of families.
Michigan Bike Camping on the Hart-Montague Trail
This is a timelapse from our GoPro of our family bike camping trip on the Hart-Montague Trail State Park. We started in Montague and rode up to Hart and camped for the night at John Gurney Park. The battery on our camera died just as we finished the rail trail and started biking through the town of Hart on our way to the campground.
