Kaleshwaram, the town lying on the border of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, is famous for housing an ancient Karimnagar temple. This is the famous Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy Temple Kaleshwaram.This ancient temple is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. The most unique aspect in this temple is the presence of two Shiva Lingams that can be seen on a single pedestal or Panavattam. One belongs to Lord Shiva (Mukteshwara) and the other belongs to Lord Yama (Kaleshwar).

Description: Kaleshwaram is a village in Mahadevpur Mandal in Bhoopalpally district in the Indian state of Telangana. This name refers more broadly to the state of Telangana & Kaleshwaram Temple. Kaleshwaram is at the juncture of the rivers Godavari and its Pranahita tributary. It is 277 kilometres from Hyderabad, 125 kilometres from Karimnagar, 115 kilometres from Warangal, 95 kilometres from Ramagundam railway station, 90 kilometres from Godavarikhani, 75 kilometres from Parkal and 60 kilometres from Manthani. This place is also popularly known as second kashi or southern Indian kashi. It is 16.5 kilometres from Sironcha, Maharashtra.

Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project previously known as (Pranahita-Chevella Lift Irrigation Project) is an under-construction multi-purpose irrigation project on the Godavari River in Kaleshwaram, Bhoopalpally, Telangana, India.[1] Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project starts at the confluence point of Pranhita River and Godavari River i.e, at Kaleshwaram village in Telangana. Pranahita river in itself is a confluence of various other smaller tributaries like Wardha, Penganga and Wainganga Rivers. It is estimated that Pranahita river has an annual average flow of 280 TMC. It remains untapped as its course is principally through the dense forests and other ecologically sensitive zones such as wild life sanctuaries.
Kaleshwaram Project is divided into ‘7’ links and ‘28’ packages covering about 500 km of 13 districts and a canal network of about 1,800 km. Project aims to utilise a total of 240 TMC (195 TMC from Medigadda barrage + 20 from Sripada Yellampalli Project + 25 TMC from groundwater). Of this 240 TMC, water has been divided as 169 TMC is for irrigation, 30 TMC for Hyderabad, 10 TMC for drinking water in villages along the project, 16 TMC for industries and 12 TMC is estimated evaporation losses. Project aims to create a new ayacut of 18.25 lakh acres in 13 districts and stabilisation of existing ayacut of 18.82 lakh acres.
Kaleshwara Muktheshwara Swamy Temple
Kaleshwaram Temple (or) Kaleshwara Muktheshwara Swamy Temple is also called as Dakshina Gangotri and is located at the border of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra on the banks of river Godavari and also dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is situated in the village of Kaleshwaram, district of Karimnagar, broadly near the state of Telangana, India. Kaleshwaram Temple is considered as one of the Trilinga Desham, the land of Three Shivalingams.
The presiding deity of Kaleshwaram temple is Lord Shiva. And the special feature of this temple is that the two sacred Shivalingams are found on a single pedestal. The two sacred Shivalingams are considered as Lord Shiva and Lord Yama, the god of death. And the deity is called as Lord Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy. The temple has a separate shrine for Lord Ganesha. The devotees are said to worship Lord Ganesha first and then Lord Yama and finally Lord Shiva.
Kaleshwaram temple offers two types of Prasadam (religious offering). One is Tamarind rice and the other is Laddu. The mythology was that one of the Vaishyas had performed Abisheka to Lord Kaleshwara Mukteshwara Swamy at this temple with the hundreds of milk pots. And the milk was said to have evolved at the sangamam of river Godavari and Pranahita, and hence it is called as Dakshina Gangotri.
