Beautiful Kalmar cathedral
April 2016. I happened to visit Kalmar while there was an ongoing confirmation rehearsal. A song reminded me of a a visit to Kalmar ten years ago.

Kalmar is one of Sweden’s oldest cities. Close to the cruise birth and the tender bridge lies the 17th-century city centre, with its old town, magnificent Renaissance castle, great city wall, beautiful cathedral, stone-built houses and cobblestone streets. Kalmar is a perfect example of how relics of the past can blend with modern architecture and tanks to its well preserved historical surroundings; Kalmar has been awarded the Europa Nostra prize twice. Stroll about and meet the people at the city’s many outdoor cafés and restaurants, in the beautiful city park or in the charming Krusenstiernska garden.
The nearby Island of Öland, embraced by the glittering Baltic Sea, boasts mystical, ancient ruins, windmills and is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Enjoy the stillness of Alvaret with its exceptional landscape and flora. While in Öland, you can also visit Solliden, the Royal Family’s summer residence.
Close to Kalmar, in the province of Småland there’s a Kingdom of Crystal, a place where you can immerse yourself in the fragile beauty of glass. Visitors can meet crafters, explore galleries and attend workshops. Besides this there’s incredible shopping for glass lovers, local cuisine, and outdoor adventures.

The film is produced by Destination Kalmar and is partly financed by the European Regional Development Fund & Interreg South Baltic in cooperation with JOHANN; Joint development of Small Cruise Ship tourism heritage products in the South Baltic.
The project has establish the Southern Baltic Sea Region as an attractive small cruise ship destination. Six exciting destinations along the South Baltic primed for developing unique cruise packages.
From the Hanseatic cities of Wismar, Rostock and Stralsund, as well as Szczecin on the southern coast, to Karlskrona and Kalmar in Sweden, South Baltic Destinations is partnered with cruise operators, tourism associations, and municipal and port authorities.

Waterfront at Kalmar, Sweden
Kalmar is a city on the Baltic Sea, in southeast Sweden. It’s known for the Renaissance-style Kalmar Castle, with its ornate turrets and drawbridge. The old town has cobbled streets and well-preserved 17th- and 18th-century buildings. Kalmar Cathedral features a baroque altar and a 17th-century pulpit by sculptor Baltzar Hoppenstedt. Nearby, Kalmar City Park has manicured gardens and exotic trees.

Orgelkonsert i Kalmar Domkyrka
Ett repotage om Orgelkonserten i Kalmar Domkyrka.
Det är Annandag Jul och jag beffiner mig I domkyrkan i Kalmar där orgelsolisten Robert Öhman framför Neuf méditations pour orgue, som på svenska betyder Nio meditationer för orgel. Det är ett verk skrivet 1935 av Oliver Messiaen.
Restaurering Kalmar domkyrka
Modulation Produktioner dokumenterar restaureringsarbete i Kalmar domkyrka.
Ett av Europas största interiöra ställningsbygge är just nu igång inne i de höga 1600-talsvalven i Kalmar domkryka; 190 ton ställningsmaterial, tio våningar höga. Den omfatande restaureringen som sedan 2005 pågått exteriört, har nu nått kyrkans interiör.
Hela kyrkan kalkas om, snickerier och andra arbeten målas om och konserveras, kalkstensgolv kompletteras och görs enhetligt, samtidigt som kyrkan får all modern teknik och tillgänglighet. Allt i ett samspel mellan beställare, arkitekt, byggare, hantverkare, konsulter samt antikvarisk expertis.

Kalmar
Kalmar is a city in Småland in the south-east of Sweden, situated by the Baltic Sea. It had 36,392 inhabitants in 2010 and is the seat of Kalmar Municipality. It is also the capital of Kalmar County, which comprises 12 municipalities with a total of 233,090 inhabitants (2011).
From the thirteenth to the seventeenth centuries, Kalmar was one of Sweden's most important cities. Between 1602 and 1913 it was the episcopal see of Kalmar Diocese, with a bishop, and the Kalmar Cathedral from 1702 is still a fine example of classicistic architecture. It became a fortified city, with the Kalmar Castle as the center. After the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, Kalmar's importance diminished, until the industry sector was initiated in the 19th century. The city is home to parts of Linnaeus University.
