Kankaria Lake, formerly known as Hauj-e-Qutb, is the second largest lake in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is located in the south-eastern part of the city, in the Maninagar area. It was completed in 1451 during the reign of Sultan Qutb-ud-Din Ahmad Shah II though its origin is placed in the Chaulukya period sometimes.
A lakefront is developed around it, which has many public attractions such as a zoo, toy train, kids city, tethered balloon ride, water rides, water park, food stalls, and entertainment facilities. The lakefront was revamped in 2008. Kankaria Carnival is a week-long festival held here in the last week of December. Many cultural, art, and social activities are organised during the carnival.

Ahmedabad was built by Sultan Ahmed Shah to serve as his capital in 1411 A .D. While returning from one of his campaigns the young Sultan Ahmed Shah impressed with the scenic surroundings and climate of the town of Ashawal undertook the building of his new capital with a fort and twelve gates and named it Ahmedabad. While you can only see the ramparts of the 600 year old Bhadra fort, almost all the twelve gates with the exception of one have withstood the ravages of time and man.

Kankaria Lake was built by Sultan Qutbuddin in the 15th century. The work was completed in 1451 CE and was known as Qutb Hauz or Hauz-i-Qutb. It was used for bathing by the kings. It had a water purification system but it has been lost with the time. At one point of the circular lake, there opens a walkway which later merges into a garden called Nagina Wadi (which means beautiful garden in Urdu) that is located in the centre of the lake. With an approximate circumference of 3 miles (4.8 km), it represents the regale history of Ahmedabad. It is a 34-sided polygon having steps which leading down to water level.
The central garden and the walkway had been revamped and utilities are enhanced. Upon completion of the renovation the lake was officially inaugurated in a week long event known as Kankaria Carnival. The inauguration ceremony for renovated Kankaria lakefront was held on December 25, 2008.

The Kankariya (Kankaria) lake is second largest lake in center of Ahmedabad in Maninagar city. This lake is really pride of the city. Everyday there are thousands of peoples are enjoying there.
The entry ticket is ₹13 per person (adult). Early morning from 04:00 AM to 08:00 AM lake provides free entry and then after 10:00 AM they charge entry fee.

Kankaria lake front Ahmedabad amusement ride collapse video goes viral
Ahmedabad: In a tragic incident at Kankaria lake front, two persons died and as many as 27 suffered injuries on Sunday due to collapse of an amusement ride, said City Mayor Bijal Patel.
The incident took place at Kankaria Adventure Park which is managed by a private firm contracted by Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Those injured are taken to AMC run L.G. hospital.
The ride that suffered accident had 32-seat capacity, said city fire brigade chief M.F. Dastoor who also added that the the people sitting in ride were at 60-ft height when the ride collapsed. Dastoor said the ride was for those above 10-year age as lock belts were attached to its seats. According to operator, 31 persons were sitting in ride when it fell from height.
The deceased in the primary reports have been identified as on Md Jahid Momin (22) resident of Danilimda area and Manaliben Rajwadi (24) resident of CTM area in the city.
The ride named discovery was run by Superstar Amusement Pvt Ltd and was situated near gate number 4 close to Balwatika.
There was big rush in the lake-front due to today being Sunday.
After the accident the lake-front has been temporarily closed.
Nehra said that the base of the ride has also broken. FSL team was also investigating the matter.
The number of deaths might increase as some of the injured were said to be critical.

Kankaria Zoo, officially Kamla Nehru Zoological Garden, was established by Rueben David in 1951 spread over 21 acres. It was rated the best zoo in Asia in 1974. They are 450 mammals, 2,000 birds, 140 reptiles in a 31-acre zoo. It houses wild animals like tigers, lions, python, anaconda, snakes, elephants, albinoes (white) animals like the rhesus monkey, spotted deer, white blackbuck, chinkara, elephant, emu, jungle babbler, bush-quail and common palm civet. Kankaria Zoo has also bred of rare species like pythons, crocodiles, Bearcats and wild asses.
