We decided to road trip out to Karatsu to see the Karatsu Kunchi Festival and then head over to the Saga Balloon Festival. Unfortunately it was too windy to see the hot air balloons go up in the air... FAIL. But there is always next year. At least we stayed for the night show! One Two Three Burners ONNNNN!!!!!

Karatsu-kunchi The annual festival 唐津くんち
The first day of Karatsu kunchi which is the annual festival of the Karatsu shrine, in Saga. During the festival about 500,000 people are said to get together.
The feature of the festival is daily parades of fourteen hikiyama, massive floats in the form of samurai helmets, sea bream, dragons, and other fantastical creatures. They are constructed from wood, lacquer, and other materials. Each float is about five to six meters tall and they weigh from two to five tons. They say the gorgeous Japanese lacquer handiwork of floats are measured in the current yen 100,000,000 to yen 200,000,000.
In 1980 the festival was designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
Karatsu Kunchi Festival
This was the Karatsu festival that I went to in Japan. It was my first one and was really amazing. The parade and the floats were really amazing. Since it also has the oldest float still active in a parade in Japan. Its really amazing and just a few hours by train from Fukuoka.
What was the first festival or fair that you went too? Please tell me in the comment section down below.

DAY TRIP TO KARATSU WITH MAI
My good friend Mai invited me to Karatsu to eat fresh squid with her and her son Ken-chan, and her friend! It was a relaxing day. I haven't seen Mai in a really long time, or Ken-chan, so it was great to hang out for a day. Sorry this is a short video, but I thought you might appreciate seeing someone other than Tatsu in my videos. Haha.

Yaya Han Vlog: Yuri On Ice Karatsu Hasetsu visit!
As promised, here is my Karatsu/Hasetsu vlog, from our visit in May! This is the town heavily featured in the Yuri!!! On Ice anime, and my friends and I went there just in time for the Saga!!! On Ice Promotion.
This is possibly the nerdiest thing I have ever done, and this video is probably the dorkiest I'll ever make. Like, there are comparison photos, between the real life locations and the anime locations. It doesn't get more Otaku than that. Thank you to Amy, Crystina, Suzi and Brian for coming with me on this anime pilgrimage!!!
Whether you are a fellow YOI fan, or just want to laugh at me being a NERD, I hope you enjoy this vlog! I really appreciated the chance to go see Karatsu, and made this video mainly for others who love YOI and can appreciate the places featured.
Let me know what you think in the comments! Have you ever visited a place just because it was in a movie, or anime?

Festivals in Japan - Karatsu Kunchi 2018
唐津くんち 2018
Karatsu Kunchi is a yearly festival held in Karatsu Saga, Japan.
Karatsu City in Saga - How to get there from Fukuoka
Karatsu (唐津) is a coastal city in Saga Prefecture on Kyushu, about 50 kilometers west of Fukuoka. In the past, Karatsu was a major stop for ships making the journey towards Korea and China because it is one of the closest Japanese cities to the Korean Peninsula.
Today the city is known for its castle, the annual Karatsu Kunchi festival (November 2-4) and its local pottery. Several more attractions are found on the nearby rural Higashi Matsuura Peninsula, including beautiful coastal scenery and the ruins of a huge castle. Leave a comment, like and subscribe.

We woke up and left the apartment pretty late today. I have been waiting for this time. I planned to eat the famous calamari sashimi at this morning market but... once we arrived there, it was late already and I was too hungry to control myself not to eat. I eat many snacks until I felt so full and couldn't eat anything anymore. I found the calamari sashimi but felt so sorry that I couldn't make it. I will come back here one day. To completed my goal.
KARATSU KUNCHI Festival (With English subtitles. Please turn on the subtitle feature.)
Karatsu Kunchi is an annual Autumn festival held at Karatsu Shrine in the city of Karatsu from the 2nd to the 4th of November. Kunchi refers to Autumn festivals held around Northern Kyushu . The Hikiyama Festival of Karatsu Kunchi was designated as an ”Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property” by the Japanese government in 1980 and an ”Intangible Cultural Heritage” by UNESCO in 2016.
Our 14 magnificent floats, or Hikiyama, are finished with Japanese lacquer and come in various forms such as lions and samurai helmets. These floats are carried in parades through the old castle town in Karatsu to the chants of ”En-ya, En-ya!” and” Yoisa, Yoisa!”and accompanied by Japanese bells, flutes, and drums. Each float stands about 7 meters high, weighs approximately 2 to 3 tons, and is gorgeously decorated with various colors including gold and silver.
