St. George Jacobite Syrian Cathedral, Karingachira | Feast of Saint Baselious Yeldho
Karingachira St. George's Church, established in 722 AD (Makaram 13), is one of the ancient churches of the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church. St. Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ is the founder of the ancient church in India. Christian writers and historians from the 4th century refer to the evangelistic work of Apostle Thomas in India, and the Indian Christians ascribe the origin of their church to the labours of the apostle in the 1st century.
The church is located near Hill Palace, Thripunitura, Kochi. The church is named after Saint George. The Katthanar (Vicar) of Karingachira was considered the representative of the Nasarani community of the erstwhile Cochin State. During athachamayam, the Katthanar representing the Nasranis, along with Nettur Thangal (represnting the Muslims), and Chembil Valia Arayan (representing the fisher folk) accompanied the Maharaja of Cochin State[1] [2].
The Saint Parumala Thirumeni was ordained as a deacon in this church in 1857.
This church was elevated as a cathedral by Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas in 2004.
This church is under the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church
St Peter and Paul church, Fort Cochin
Kadungamangalam Mor Pathrose Paulose Church was established in 1867 Dhanu 10 in the name of the martyr Mor Behnam by Thuruthil Varkey Ulahannan, a trustee of Karingachira church, after securing an order from Cochin government. He was motivated to do so by the dispute between the then Malankara Metropolitan Mathews Mar Athanasius and Karingachira church in 1867 on the lease of church land. However, this church was destroyed in 1868 due to a fire sparked by fireworks on the church festival day. In 1873, the rebuilt church was consecrated by the Malankara Metropolitan Pulikkottil Mar Dionysius Joseph in the name of St. Stephen. The church building was modified in 1879. Later the church and the property was handed over to Shemaon Mar Dionysius, the first Metropolitan of Cochin, who initiated its reconstruction and named it after Apostles Peter and Paul. Mor Gregorius of Parumala consecrated this church. The remains of Mor Dionysius Shem`un are interred in this church. The church was again remodelled in 1980 and was consecrated by H.H. Patriarch Zakka I in 1982.

The Lone Caretaker Of Kochi's Centuries Old Jewish Synagogue | Unique Stories From India
The caretaker of a 450-year-old Synagogue worries about the future of the Jewish community in Kochi. Joseph Elias Josephai (affectionately known as Babu), is one of the few members of the Jewish community in Kochi who still remain in the city. After the formation of the state of Israel in 1948, a large number of Cochin Jews (also called Malabar Jews) migrated back to the holy land. As a result, there are now as few as 27 Jews left in the city of Kochi. With no one to care for the Kadavumbhagom Synagogue, Babu has taken it upon himself to manage the security and upkeep of the Synagogue. Lamenting the future of the Jewish community in the city, Babu is looking to international Jewish trusts to help ensure that the Synagogue is maintained after his death.
101 Traces looks at the last of anything: ethnic communities, folk craftsmen, disappearing trades, forgotten people. It sketches portraits of these unique individuals, locked in a battle they cannot win: a battle against the future. Together, they represent the dying whispers of ancient heritage and traditional individuality. As India moves towards homogenised global pop culture, 101 Traces honours the people, the objects, and the skills that connect us to our ancient identity.
