Dal is a lake in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, India. The urban lake, which is the second largest in the state, is integral to tourism and recreation in Kashmir and is named the Lake of Flowers ,[1] Jewel in the crown of Kashmir[2] or Srinagar's Jewel.[3] The lake is also an important source for commercial operations in fishing and water plant harvesting.
The shore line of the lake, about 15.5 kilometres (9.6 mi), is encompassed by a boulevard lined with Mughal era gardens, parks, houseboats and hotels. Scenic views of the lake can be witnessed from the shore line Mughal gardens, such as Shalimar Bagh and Nishat Bagh built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir[7] and from houseboats cruising along the lake in the colourful shikaras.[8] During the winter season, the temperature sometimes reaches −11 °C (12 °F), freezing the lake.
SHIKARA BOAT RIDE:
Shikara in Kashmir is also used for other purposes apart from leisure. Locals mainly use this low rowing boat for transportation, seaweed harvesting and fishing. But the most unique of the lot is its use as a floating market. Shikaras are used for selling varieties of flowers and handicrafts that are quite popular among tourists residing in houseboats. The glimpse of floating boats full of colourful blooms is definitely an eye-catcher.
Along with these, the fun associated with Shikara also includes bird watching. The white breasted kingfisher, pariah kites and little grebe are some of the common birds that can be easily spotted while enjoying a Shikara ride in Kashmir.

Gulmarg Gondola of Gulmarg ropeway is the main tourist attraction or Kashmir in India. Gulmarg Gondola of Kashmir in India is one of the longest and highest ropeway cable car in the world. Gulmarg Gondola has two stages. The first stage takes you from Gulmarg (approx 8500 feet) to Kongdoori (10000 feet). The second phase of the Gondola takes you from Kongdoori (approx 10000 feet) to mount Apharwat peak at 13500 feet altitude. The first phase of the ride takes around 9 minutes while the second takes about 12 minutes.

Half day tour of world famous Mughal Gardens visiting the Nishat Bagh (The garden of pleasure) and Shalimar Bagh (Abode of love). Return to houseboat for hot lunch. In the afternoon Shikara ride on The Dal Lake to enjoy the beauty that God has graced this city with which is often compared to Venice. Day 3: Srinagar – Gulmarg (56 Kms)
After breakfast leave for Gulmarg which is one of the most beautiful summer resort in the valley. It is also popular for its golf course (in summer), the highest in the world and skiing during the winter season. One can have Gondola ride (cable car) from Gulmarg to Khalinmarg. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 4: Gulmarg – Pahalgam (149 Kms)
After breakfast, leave from Gulmarg and drive to Pahalgam 2440 Mtrs (Vale of Kashmir) on the way visit Saffron fields and Avantipur ruins which is eleven hundred years old temple. Finally by the lunch time you will reach Pahalgam which is the most famous place for Indian Film Industry. After lunch enjoy the nature charm of the valley. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 5: Pahalgam
Day to enjoy the beauty of the Pahalgam valley. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 6: Pahalgam – Srinagar (93 Kms)
After breakfast leave Pahalgam and drive to Srinagar at lunch time you will reach into the hotel Hotel. Afternoon free for personal activities. Overnight at Houseboat/Hotel
Day 7: Srinagar – Sonmarg – Srinagar (196 Kms)
Full day excursion to Sonmarg which is the most beautiful drive from Srinagar. On the way you stop at many beautiful spots. Continue drive to Sonmarg 2690 Mtrs (Meadow of Gold). One can ride on horse to visit Thajiwas Glacier where snow remains round the year and Sonmarg is known as Gateway of Ladakh. In the evening return to Houseboat. Overnight at Houseboat/Hotel
Day 8: Srinagar
Transfer in time to the airport to connect onwards destination flight.

Kashmir is the northernmost geographical region of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-19th century, the term Kashmir denoted only the Kashmir Valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal Range. Today, it denotes a larger area that includes the Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir (which includes the region of Jammu, Kashmir Valley, Ladakh and Siachen), the Pakistani-administered territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and Chinese-administered territories of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram Tract.[1][2][3]
In the first half of the 1st millennium, the Kashmir region became an important centre of Hinduism and later of Buddhism; later still, in the ninth century, Kashmir Shaivism arose.[4] In 1339, Shah Mir became the first Muslim ruler of Kashmir, inaugurating the Salatin-i-Kashmir or Shah Mir dynasty.[5] Kashmir was part of the Mughal Empire from 1586 to 1751,[6] and thereafter, until 1820, of the Afghan Durrani Empire.[5] That year, the Sikhs, under Ranjit Singh, annexed Kashmir.[5] In 1846, after the Sikh defeat in the First Anglo-Sikh War, and upon the purchase of the region from the British under the Treaty of Amritsar, the Raja of Jammu, Gulab Singh, became the new ruler of Kashmir. The rule of his descendants, under the paramountcy (or tutelage) of the British Crown, lasted until the partition of India in 1947, when the former princely state of the British Raj was claimed by both Pakistan and India.
Since 1947, the greater region of Jammu and Kashmir has been embroiled in a territorial dispute between India, Pakistan and China—with India controlling approximately 43% of the land area of the region and 70% of its population. Pakistan controls roughly 37% of the land, while China controls the remaining 20%.[7][1][2] Kashmir is widely regarded as the world's most militarized zone—the region has witnessed three major wars between India and Pakistan, another limited war between India and China, numerous border skirmishes, high mountainous warfare, an ongoing insurgency, a Hindu exodus and internal civilian unrest. Sonmarg gives rise to The Three Sisters (Kashmir). In its vicinity lies the great Himalayan glaciers of Kashmir Valley namely Kolhoi Glacier and Machoi Glacier with some peaks of above 5,000 m: Sirbal Peak, Kolhoi Peak, Amarnath Peak and Machoi Peak. Sonmarg is situated in a valley at the bank of Nallah Sindh, 87 km north-east from Srinagar. It is a popular tourist destination, nestled within the imposing Himalayan peaks.[1] It lies at an altitude of 2800 m above sea level. The drive to Sonmarg passes Nallah Sindh, a major tributary of the Jehlum River in the Kashmir valley. It is upwards of sixty miles long valley and deep rock-grit gorge to open grassy meadow land and village-dotted slopes.
