The Lake of Kastoria
The Lake of Kastoria or Orestiada or Orestida, has been characterized as a monument of natural beauty by the Ministry of Culture. The area is approximately 28 square kilometres and its maximum depth is 9.5 metres.
It's the natural habitat of 200 species of birds as well as many lake fish.
It is worth touring and enjoying this beautiful location, on foot or by bike.
We walked the small round of the lake, which is almost 7 kilometres long, and felt astonished by a magical scenery, full of towering plane, poplar and willow trees, leaning over the surface of the lake.
We were happy to meet friendly fishermen, we visited country churches, the Monastery of Virgin Mary and the Cave of the Dragon.
For the daring ones, there is also the great round of the lake, which is extended from the south exit of the town, to Dispilio.
There is nothing like being here, and feel, with all of your senses, this unique beauty.

Kastoria is in Macedonia, 190 km from Thessaloniki. Built on a peninsula of Kastoria lake at an altitude of 703 meters, between the Mountains of Vitsi and Grammos. It is surrounded by the lake, connected with the surrounding area by a strip of land giving the impression of an island. The city with 72 Byzantine churches, also boasts an incredible petrified forest, a Prehistoric settlement, the Neolithic settlement of Avgi, many museums and the amazing Dragon Cave.

Η Καστοριά είναι πόλη της Ελλάδας και πρωτεύουσα του ομώνυμου νομού. Βρίσκεται στο δυτικό άκρο της Δυτικής Μακεδονίας. Ο πληθυσμός της πόλης ανέρχεται στους 13.387 κατοίκους (2011). Είναι χτισμένη πάνω σε χερσόνησο της ομώνυμης λίμνης, σε υψόμετρο 703 m[1] από την επιφάνεια της θάλασσας, ανάμεσα στα βουνά Βίτσι και Γράμμο. Περιβάλλεται από τη λίμνη της και συνδέεται με την ξηρά μέσω μιας ευρύτερης λωρίδας γης από επιχωματώσεις, δίνοντας την εντύπωση νησιού.
