Kasuga Shrine, Nara, Japan
Kasuga Grand Shrine (春日大社, Kasuga-taisha) is a Shinto shrine in the city of Nara, in Nara Prefecture, Japan.Established in 768 A.D. and rebuilt several times over the centuries, it is the shrine of the Fujiwara family. The interior is famous for its many bronze lanterns, as well as the many stone lanterns that lead up the shrine.
The architectural style Kasuga-zukuri takes its name from Kasuga Shrine's honden (sanctuary).
Kasuga Shrine, and the Kasugayama Primeval Forest near it, are registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Nara.
The path to Kasuga Shrine passes through Deer Park (where tame deer roam free). Over a thousand stone lanterns line the way. The Man'yo Botanical Garden, Nara is adjacent to the shrine.

Walk in Japan Ep 11B - Day 11 情迷奈良 Nara - Kasuga Taisha Shrine
Episode 11 Part 2 -
I did not choose Nara on purpose. It does give me a surprise - a peaceful one. Yeap, a peaceful surprise. I feel that I have submerged into the Kasuga Taisha Shrine when I step into its 2km long front yard path. Too many imaginations pop around in my mind. I couldn't even raise a hearty smile. Yet, my heart was so peaceful.

Japan Walk - Kasugayama castle (春日山城) - 4K
In this video we’ll show you Kasugayama castle (春日山城).
Kasugayama Castle Ruins are known as the site of the former castle of one of the most famous warriors of the Warring States period, Uesugi Kenshin.
It has been designated as a national historic site and is also counted as one of Japan's 100 famous castles.
Dates of construction for the castle are unclear, though it appears to have already existed during the Nanbokucho Era, some 600 years ago. However, the remains of the vast castle as seen today came later, and is thought to be due to the work of Uesugi Kenshin, Kagekatsu, and the Hori clan.
The kanji character for castle is written with two elements, earth, and becoming. As such, Kasugayama Castle is truly an earthen castle. By skillfully using the complex topography of the land, the strong citadel was well known throughout Japan for being inpregnable.
Even now, features such as the Karabori (empty moat carved by digging ridges in the soil), Dorui (embankments built up around the castle) and a Oido (great well) remain to be seen.
Another major feature is the Sougamae, a Japanese castle structure which surrounds the outer base for protection. At the foot of the mountain where the residences and empty moats were built, it extends some 1.2 kilometers around the castle.
From the inner citade (Honmaru) at 180 meters, visitors can enjoy a view of the Sea of Japan and the Kubikino Plains, as well as the surrounding mountain ranges.
There is also a bronze statue of Uesugi Kenshin, which was produced during the broadcasting of the NHK period drama Ten to Chi to (Heaven and Earth) in 1969.
* The position of the bronze statue is shown on the map.

Shoshazan Engyo-ji Temple ( 書寫山圓教寺 )
Description
————————————————————————
Shoshazan Engyo-ji Temple was constructed in the year 966 on Mount Shosha, which towers over the city of Himeji. This temple is one of the 33 temples on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage route and has been continuously worshiped by the Imperial family and nobility. Many of the buildings are now National Important Cultural Properties. For example, “Mani-den” where the principal object of worship is enshrined, “Dai-ko-do” the learning and training center, and the “Jiki-do” dormitory for trainee monks (finally completed in 1962). The temple is also famous as the location for the Hollywood movie, “The Last Samurai”.

|| JAPAN TRIP 2017 || EP.5 - INARI SHRINE AT NIGHT!
|| JAPAN TRIP 2017 ||
DAY 8(, 9) and Departure!
Thank you for watching this whole series up until the end! If this is your first video, remember you're actually watching the last of the five!
Kyoto was such an experience with all its historic shrines and temples; and trying on the kimono with ze mother. It was luckily not too cold as the snow storm just left the town (as you could see from the footage of melting snow!). We felt like Japanese princesses hahaha.
We originally planned to visit Inari Shrine in day time but we couldn't make it. The tunnel at night was actually horrifying and spooky because you could only see 10m in. It was another unexpected experience.

Kofukuji Temple (興福寺), Nara City, Japan
西国観音巡礼 第 9 番 南円堂 興福寺
Kofukuji Temple, also sometimes known as Nan-en-do, is a temple located in Nara City. It is one of the temples, technically outside the Nara Park, closer to the JR Nara Station, hence one of the first temples you will encounter on the way to Nara Park.
Kofukuji Temple boasts a majestic five storied pagoda and a sprawling temple precincts. One of the main halls was under remodeling when I visited there, but I was able to video most of the items in the precincts.
Kofukuji is temple #9 in the Saikoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage circuit of Western Japan.
Hope you enjoy!!!

Nada Kenka Matsuri - Himeji: Great Mikoshi Fight
The Nada Kenka Matsuri in Himeji takes place every year in October. It is quite famous, but also a little dangerous. Every year some of the contestants get injured, some even die.
Thousands of people watch the Mikoshi Fights. Mikoshi are portable shrines.
The winners are allowed to walk up to the top of the hill. The mikoshi are really heavy and it's difficult to keep balance.

Off to Japan-Day 7 & 8: Fawning over Nara
We arrive in Osaka and choose Nara as the first place to visit! Less than an hour away, Nara is a beautiful town with a huge Buddist temple in the center of a national park. Oh and there's thousands of deer wandering around...
