Cycle Touring Greece Day 8 - Meteora to Metsovo
This was a challenging day's cycling over the notorious Katara Pass between Meteora and Metsovo. Peaking at a height of 1700 metres, there was a lot of uphill pedalling!
Fortunately, the weather was ideal, and the scenery great company along the way. This was day 8 of my cycle touring in Greece trip.
NOTE- Yes I know the audio quality is poor. Not a lot I can do about it sadly, as the audio was recorded through the Go-Pro and it's not always 100% reliable. On future tours, I may use a separate device to record commentary.

Limni Pigon and Metsovo, Epirus - Greece HD Travel Channel
Metsovo lies at an altitude of 1160 m in the middle of the mountains of Pindus, in the Greek region of Epirus.
Coming from Meteora we take the old street over the Katara Pass towards Metsovo. Shortly before the summit, we turn towards Limni Pigon. The artificial lake is surrounded by a nature reserve which is still a home for brown bears. Here the Aoos river is dammed. It the only river of Greece which flows into the Adriatic Sea.
Our husky enjoys the welcome refreshment.
When traveling in this region you have to watch out for goats on the road. Also horses, cattle and dogs do not know any difference between a private and public area either.
Near Metsovo cattle crowd on the place where a ski lift guarantees sportive pleasure in winter time. Metsovo is known as ski resort and mainly focused on tourism.

Metsovo liegt auf einer Höhe von 1160 m inmitten des Pindos-Gebirges in der griechischen Region Epirus.
Von Meteora kommend nehmen wir die alte Straße in Richtung Metsovo über den Katara-Pass.
Kurz vor der Passhöhe biegen wir ab zum Limni Pigon. Der künstliche See liegt inmitten eines Naturschutzgebietes, in dem noch Braunbären heimisch sind. Hier wird der Aoos gestaut, der einzige Fluss Griechenlands, der in die Adria abfließt.
Unsere Hündin genießt die willkommene Erfrischung.
Bei Fahrten in dieser Region ist immer wieder mit Ziegenherden auf der Straße zu rechnen. Aber auch Pferde, Rinder und Hunde kennen hier keinen Unterschied zwischen privatem und öffentlichem Gelände.
Kurz vor Metsovo tummeln sich Rinder, wo im Winter ein Schilift für sportliches Vergnügen sorgt.

Cycle Touring Greece Day 9 - Cycling from Metsovo to Ioannina
With the Katara Pass behind me, it was time to cycle from Metsovo to Ioannina.
I was warned that there might be aggressive shepherds dogs along the way. I got hassled three times by them, but fortunately it was all on downhill sections.
If I had been cycling the other way from Ioannina to Metsovo it might have been more difficult!
I finished the day in a camping in Ioannina. Not the best run place in the world, but it will do for 2 nights!
