Katutura Tour (Township in Windhoek, Namibia)
Katutura is a township in Windhoek. It is Namibia's version of Soweto in South Africa. Katutura and Soweto basically have the same history of apartheid. Just like Soweto, Katutura is where black Namibians were forced to move to by the apartheid regime during apartheid, far away from Windhoek City where the white Namibians lived. Today, Katutura has a mixture of modern houses and shacks. It's a people's place where there's constant fun and liveliness. People there seem happier, livelier and freer than those who live in big houses in the city, in spite the poverty. I have family who live in Windhoek City and Katutura, however, Katutura is my favorite place to stay and hangout while in Namibia. READ NAMIBIA BLOG at valentinasworldtravel.com

Our Katutura Kids educational day on Wednesday morning went very well. After taking them round the study site and spending time on our educational programme, everyone ended up playing soccer and the kids loved getting so much attention from our team members.

The event was attended by many that came to taste donkey meat, which is a preferred dish by some that have grown accustom to its unique flavor.

Katutura Documentary - Rapper KK tells about growing up in Namibias largest township
„Growing up in Katutura is a different experience. The Namibian artist KK reflects in this documentary, how it was to grow up in Namibia's largest township. This was created during apartheid and was supposed to make the cityscape of Windhoek whiter by forcing the black population to resettle in suburbs. KK has been on the Namibian Hip-Hop scene since he was a teenager, and has slowly been making a name for himself. Songs like „Katutura Kid“ and „Khâimâ“ prove his musical versatility and vividly illustrate stories of the street and his way to the top.
