Kauai Hawaii 2015
Kauai Hawaii Things to Do 2015
Don't leave Kauai without checking out the dry West side of the island. You'll discover Kokee Park, Waimea Canyon, Polihale Beach and Waimea Cottages where you can sup and sip your way to fun and a stunning sunset.
This is old Hawaii at its finest. This property used to be a plantation - the workers lived in these bungalows that are now $200 to $500 per night.
Hey you can also stop in and eat at Kalapaki Joe's and they have a great happy hour 3 to 6PM - no one cares if you get an ice tea but most won't. Deals on appetizers too and the setting is surreal.
That's a bargain with incredible scenery. Awe-inspiring.
Yes it is a drive from the north shore, takes about an hour from Kapaa, but its worth it.
Great for birthdays, or every day.
Waimea Cottages is just north of the town of Waimea - one of the best things to do on Kauai

* Kalalau Trail (with drone!) - Top 10 most dangerous hikes? KAUAI (06:00) (wrj56)
(c) William Jans (*please subscribe so I can create more!) Join Vancouver photographer / adventurer William Jans' wee jaunt on the amazing Kalalau Trail on the Na Pali Coast in Kauai. The start date of Dec 8 was vexed with both a Flash Flood warning and Tsunami warning. Both must have abated since hikers were allowed to continue. Hiking in winter means MUDDY! But this is still a great adventure. If you choose to do this, please be respectful of these lands deemed sacred by the Hawaiian and of course be prepared (!) and heed warnings and pay for permits too of course! (*note this is (c) William Jans. Do not copy or repost any without permission).
Filmed, edited and created by William Jans with 1 drone, 4 video cameras and 1 pro DSLR camera for stills. All gear and no clothes = 1 stinky William.
Credits at the end to thank the great new friends I met along the way. Some of these amazing folks were kind enough to participate and some were super kind in loaning me battery chargers when some of my many batteries went kaput.
Thanks for helping this get more than the 4800 views goal on this! (that is 10% of 48,000 footsteps it took to complete this 37km trip).
This looks kind of Wow on big screen if you have :-)
Notes / Disclaimers:
- This is not all that dangerous if you are careful. Some do run (portions) of this trail out and back (I would like to do that too).
- Hawaiians I encountered described the many yahoos going at this glibly with no respect for the dangers, so requested I show the risks to mitigate everyone thinking this is merely a walk in the park.
- There is distortion from wide angle shots looking down at my feet that make it seem more sheer than it is. To better assess the pitch, please look at the other images in the footage (including stills) that show the drop-off accurately.
- Flash floods and ocean surf have reputedly taken more lives than falls, so be wary in crossing or considering playing in the water.
Thanks for watching and I hope you might check out my other videos or full shows too! They have been live shows in Canada only this far, but I am creating *Streaming versions for 2017! If 80,000 Canadians enjoyed them, I hope other citizens of of other countries might like them too.If you subscribe here, I will add clips to announce dates when set.

Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail
Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail Is a beautiful hiking trail in Kauai. The Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail is located on the south side of Kauai near Poipu. You actually have to go to through the Hyatt Hotel to get to the trail. This video will show you exactly where to park and how to get down to the trail. You're basically going to walk into the Hyatt go to the left side of the building, walk down to the beach and turn left. Once you are on the beach you will be able to see the start of the trail. This Trail has beautiful views of of mountains, ocean and Golf Course. . This one is along the coast and it does not have the jungle feel to it. If you are staying near the South Side of Kauai we highly recommend that you check this out. We would call this a beginner's hike, so don't worry if you're not a hiking Pro. We do recommend that you wear at least hiking sandals as the rocks are Sharp. Be careful some of the areas are very steep, so if you do have children make sure they don't go close to the edge.

Blessing above and quote below from the website for Pow Wow
Mahalo, wa-do, thank you to all who made the 15th Annual Powwow a GREAT SUCCESS! Our Volunteers, vendors, Native American guests, visitors, Kauai community, just everyone made this Powwow, the very best ever! There is always room for improvement, so we are already planning for our 16th Annual Powwow which will be September 26th, 27th, 28th, 2014. The Native American Women Warriors will be our 2014 Color Guard, so expect another big Powwow!
In Kauai, we also hiked Kalalau Trail, drove Waimea Canyon (Grand Canyon of the Pacific) and tasted our first shaved ice (see other videos) .We snorkeled with turtles and saw monk seals on the beach. Hawaii is truly spectacular. It was great for us to be back in America after traveling for over one year in Asia. I also recorded George while he was recording original music for a video book trailer for our memoir, Traveling in Sin!

In this episode, young correspondents at Aliamanu Middle School on Oahu feature students from military families who have lived across the globe. From Kauai, Waimea Canyon Middle School students report on the impact of beach litter.
Other schools featured in this episode: Connections Public Charter School and Konawaena High School (Hawaii Island); Hana K-12 School and Seabury Hall Middle School (Maui); and Punahou School and Waialua High and Intermediate School (Oahu).
PBS Hawai‘i - HIKI NŌ Episode 806 | Full Program
TOP STORY
Adults today bemoan the fact that members of the younger generation spend all of their waking hours on their smartphones. Young people from that very generation – students from Kapa‘a Middle School on Kaua‘i will surprise viewers with their video primer on “Ten Things To Do When You’re NOT On Your Smartphone.” The activities they feature include making new friends, volunteering for a worthy cause, learning a new hobby – all things that take you away from the virtual world of your screen and into engaging with people face-to-face in the actual, physical world.
ALSO FEATURED
Students at Kapolei High School in Central O‘ahu tell the story of a school fun-run that was renamed to honor a teacher’s daughter who passed away from cancer.
Students at Konawaena High School in the Kona district of Hawai‘i Island tell the poignant story of a same-sex married couple whose love lives on after the tragic death of one partner.
Students from Radford High School in the Salt Lake district of O‘ahu tell the story of a football coach who makes life lessons a priority over winning.
Students from Kua O Ka La Miloli‘i Hipu‘u Virtual Academy in South Kona show us how to make unique t-shirt prints out of recycled materials.
And students from Kainalu Elementary School on the Windward side of O‘ahu show us how to use earthworms to make a nutrient-rich type of fertilizer.
HIKI NŌ Episode #901 – The Bigger Picture | Program
Students from Kauaʻi High School in Lihue present a personal essay called “The Bigger Picture.” It bemoans how smartphones and other personal electronic devises get in the way of our enjoyment of the natural world around us. The widespread use of smartphone cameras has led people to experience life within the confines of a small screen rather than directly, with their own eyes. “Our phones distract us from the real beauty right in front of us,” says the narrator, “which makes each minute less memorable.”
ALSO FEATURED:
-Students from McKinley High School in Honolulu show how a massive art project created a common bond among the employees of a Waikiki hotel.
-Young journalists at Wheeler Middle School in Central Oʻahu show how actions taken by students led to the administration extending the time between periods to ensure students have enough time to walk from class to class.
- Students from Hana School in East Maui show us how to make a fish ornament out of coconut fronds.
- Students from Kamehameha Schools Maui Middle show how a man’s participation in a community band enriches his life, even though it has been more than twenty years since he played in his high school orchestra.
- Students from Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School on Kauaʻi uncover the massive clean-up effort along their island’s Kalalau hiking trail.
- Students from H.P. Baldwin High School in Wailuku, Maui, tell the story of a young woman who was inspired to reveal the real person behind her make-up.
