Farmer's Market in Hanalei, Kauai, HI - KVIC-TV, myKauai.com [Event]
Nanea Marston explores Hanalei's Saturday morning farmer's market; meets the shoppers, samples the produce and kava.
Try the seedless tangerines. Um hm. Don't bite, insert the entire thing into your mouth, chew and swallow. Tip number one, we're learning here.
Tell me about your lovely produce. Everything was harvested this morning as far as the greens go.
This is our traditional kava bowl, this is our kava brew right here, and this is a beverage we've been drinking for centuries throughout the pacific islands. How do you use this? Add water? We get the roots sun-dried, we put them in a pounder or blender and turn them into a powder. Can I taste some? Sure Nanea. This is it right here. You gotta drink it all at one time. Really? That's a lot. It's all good. It gets better.

Transcript:
Known as the “sunny side” of the island, the south shore of Kaua‘i combines the old fashioned character of Kōloa and the refined resort lifestyle of Poʻipū. Popular for its sugar plantation origins, luxury vacationing, island style shopping, golf courses, restaurants and beaches, the south shore promises endless options for discovery.
“A remarkable gateway to the south shore towns of Kōloa and Poʻipū, the famous tree-tunnel road displays 500 eucalyptus trees that stretch for about 3 miles.”
Beyond the iconic tree tunnel, also known as Maluhia Road, Old Kōloa Town awaits. A key center for the island’s rich sugar cane history, this quaint town is a notable cultural region, where the Old Sugar Mill reflects the legacy of the plantation days. “Built in 1835, this large scale operation spawned the beginning of the largest industry in the state.”
Located in downtown Kōloa, the Old Sugar Mill is at the center of numerous shops, galleries, and dining opportunities.
Entering Poʻipū, famous for its continual sunshine, this area is home to numerous accommodations and luxurious homes accompanied by an abundance of shops and eateries.
The central Poʻipū traffic circle leads to many notable places, like Prince Kuhio Park, whose March 26th birthday is state holiday.
A must-see natural attraction, Spouting Horn Beach Park is the next memorable stop. An incredible place to observe this popular blowhole blast ocean spray into the air, this well-photographed site is more dramatic at high tide.
“Reaching heights of 50 feet, these bursts occur when water rushes under an eroded lava shelf, creating an audible hissing sound.” The lush green plant life of The Garden Island may be viewed in two National Tropical Botanical Garden’s which encompass 352 acres of preserved flora.
Located in the oceanfront village, Poʻipū Beach Park is one of the region’s most popular beaches, with safe waters for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and family fun.
Brennecke’s Beach neighbors Poʻipū Beach Park, which both feature an abundance of marine life from green sea turtles (honu), monk seals, and humpback whales. Monk seals often sunbathe in the summertime, and in the winter months, whales dance upon the horizon
Marking the beginning of the Māhāʻulepū Heritage Trail, Shipwreck’s Beach is further east and perfect for long beach walks and beautiful sunsets. “Shipwrecks beach is a half-mile stretch of white sand, tucked away in Poʻipū’s friendly south shore resort town with abundant restaurants, shopping, and golf-courses.”
On the way to the unforgettable Māhāʻulepū Beach, you’ll pass the southernmost point of the island. This area encompasses many natural wonders that trace the coastline. Māhāʻulepū Beach has a wild character that is found in the archeological landscape. “This remote beach has strong currents and sharp coral, which makes it dangerous for swimming or snorkeling, but it is a great location for coastal hikes and exploration.”
The town of Kalaheo marks the end of this region, which has great restaurant and shopping potential. With an array of attractions, the sunny south shore of Kaua‘i has much to explore.

McBryde Garden ~ Poipu ~ Kauai
Sabaya Original Music 'Wings of Paradise'
Situated on the south shore of the Hawaiian island of Kaua`i, McBryde Garden is nestled in the picturesque and historical Lāwa`i Valley. The site of the first garden of the NTBG, the Lāwa`i Valley was chosen for its diversity of climate, soils, and topography. The area affords a kaleidoscope of distinct micro-environments which are cool, hot, wet, dry, lake, cliff or meadow.
McBryde Garden has become a veritable botanical ark of tropical flora. It is home to the largest ex situ collection of native Hawaiian flora in existence, extensive plantings of palms, flowering trees, Rubiaceae, heliconias, orchids, and many other plants that have been wild-collected from the tropical regions of the world. NTBG's Conservation Program is based at this site and the Garden contains a state-of-the-art horticulture and micropropagation facility.
Red Jade VineMeandering through the garden is the Lāwa`i Stream, transected by Bamboo Bridge in the lush greenbelt that borders it. The Canoe Garden contains plants of ancient Hawai`i and Maidenhair Falls area features such plants as chocolate, allspice, and ginger.
National headquarters for the NTBG organization, with major research and education facilities, overlook the McBryde Garden.

Carole & Mikaila Kauai Trip 2019
SEE BELOW FOR PLACES & COMPANIES WE USED IS IN THE VIDEO
My mom and I went to Kauai this year for the holiday season to get away, and let me tell you that this place is actual paradise. We were fortunate enough to get to do so many things and saw almost everything I wanted to while there. Below are the things seen in the video, and the companies we booked each of the excursions through.
00:24- Drive up Waimea Canyon and stop at multiple of the lookout points along the drive.
00:59- Helicopter ride over most of the main sights in Kauai. This was one of my favorite parts of the whole trip! We booked with Sunshine helicopters.
02:03- Stopped at a beach on the west side of the island Kekaha beach. It rained a lot while we were there but the locals let us in on a secret that when all the rest of the island is rainy, the west side is almost always dry so we stopped of at the beach there multiple times.
02:28- I can't rave enough about how fun this tubing excursion was!!! We went on a day that was a bit rainy but that didn't take away from how awesome it was. It was booked through Kauai Backcountry Adventures.
03:25- It was POURING rain but it didn't stop us from going on the awesome biplane tour through the Kauai mountains. We booked with Skyline Eco-Adventures, they were awesome and the scenery was breathtaking
04:45- Walking along the beach in Kapa'a!
05:06- When going to Hawaii you have to get the Hawaiian experience and go to a Luau. We went to the one at the Grand Hyatt and it was so much fun. The tickets are quite pricey so be warned, but the food was incredible and the performances were amazing!
05:33- The kayak and hike to the secret falls was one of my favorite days on the trip. You rent a kayak at Kamokila Hawaiian village, be warned that the kayak rentals sell out super super quickly so make sure to be there right when they open. you kayak up the river a little ways, park the kayak on the sand, and the hike to the secret falls. The hike is pretty crazy because you are going through rivers and the trail gets super muddy, but boy is the end view worth it!!!!
07:34- Day at Hanalei Bay and surf town! This is a super popular part of the island because there are a ton of cute shops, eateries, an a nice calm bay where you can paddle board and walk out onto the pier.
08:29- visit to Maniniholo Dry Cave and walk along tunnels beach!
09:01- Awaawapuhi Trail in koke'e state park! This was definitely a challenging hike, but the view at the end was absolutely breathtaking!!!
09:27- Catameran Snorkeling cruise with the company Captain Andy's. The sailors were incredible on this cruise! I can't rave enough about their professionalism, and just being down right awesome! The food on the trip was so good too, and I got to SWIM WITH SEA TURTLES!!!!!! A huge highlight of the trip for me!
A few honorary mentions that didn't make it into the video but were amazing are:
-Snorkeling at Poipu beach
-Snorkeling at Anini Beach
-Kapa'a for their food trucks(especially the shaved ice) and little shopping

Kauai Kunana Dairy's Fruits of Kauai - KVIC-TV3, myKauai.com [Agriculture]
Ryan Wooten from Kauai Kunana dairy discusses fruits found on his farm. Noni is Hawaiians medicine, it was used everywhere in the polynesian world, everywhere from New Zealand to Hawaii. Every part of this tree can be used for a different medicinal purpose... They use it for alternative treatments to cancer, arthritis, diabetes. It's a diet suppressant... The leaf, they actually make tea out of it. Anyone that has a tooth ailment can chew on the stem.
Tamarind fruit is a seed pod, inside is a paste. Very high in vitamin C. Good for you, it comes from Southern Asia as well as South America.
Soursop is pointy and on the inside is a white fruit and it's a pulp, you open it up, east it raw, it's a sweet tart, somewhere between a pineapple and a banana. You eat it straight out of there or you can freeze it and throw it in your smoothie. It's good, high in vitamin c and other nutrients. It's good for people with diabetes.

Kauai Store 2017
This video is about Kauai Store 2017
Pietro's Pizza, Kauai, Hawaii, Best Pizza on Kauai
from:
If you are looking for great pizza on Kauai, you need to check out Pietro’s Pizza.
They are located at the Harbor Mall in Lihue on 3501 Rice Street.
You can discover a wide variety of New York style pizza as well as authentic Neapolitan pizza cooked in an actual wood fired oven. Pietro’s is the first (and as far as I know), only certified Neapolitan pizzeria in the entire state of Hawaii.
I recommend the Don, which is an authentic New York style pizza.
I was astounded at the taste of this simple cheese slice. Hey I thought I was in New York.
Don’t limit yourself to just one taste as there are many other pizza asventures to choose from: Maybe you want to sample a cousin of the Don, The Don Ho which is made with Portuguese sausage and kalua pig. Or maybe another relative: the Don Pietro: straight, pepperoni which as you know is an American classic.
In my experience a pizza place is only as good as the pizza maker or pizzaiolo who lovingly creates the pizza by hand.
Tommy Iannucci moved to Kauai in the 80’s and was distressed to find he could not get a decent slice of his favorite food: pizza.
He went on a pizza quest and made the commitment to learn to make great pizza. At first it was at home in his kitchen, then he built a brick oven in his driveway. He began by making pizza for friends, family, neighbors and anyone else who loved pizza. He made lots of pizzas and most importantly he shared them.
Not satisfied with his skills, he traveled the world learning the craft. As Tommy explains he visited known and unknown pizzerias. He trained in New York, Rome, Las Vegas and even trained in Naples under pizza master Enzo Croccia. The result of his quest was to bring great pizza to the Island of Kauai and create his own pizzeria.
Tommy named Pietro’s Pizza after his grandfather and brother. They are both sadly gone but their spirit and love of all things Italian and pizza lives on at Pietro’s.
Now you too, can enjoy a little slice of New York and authentic Neapolitan pizza on the beautiful Island of Kauai.
Check out Pietro’s at the Harbor Mall in Lihue, 3051 Rice Street. The phone number is (808) 245-2266. Open daily 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday. Love Life, Eat Pizza, Have Fun at Pietro’s Pizza.
