Touring and Exploring Kauai Hawaii - Episode 2

Surfing on Lihue & Koloa, Kauai Hawaii
We saved and paid for our vacation before it began. The plan was to fly straight from Atlanta to Hawaii, spend the night, then get on a cruise ship for 7 days to see 4 of the islands. Deloris planned excursions at every stop including rainforest hikes with waterfall swimming, zip lining, watching a sunrise from atop a 10,000 foot crater and biking down it, a luau, surfing lessons, and a helicopter tour of one of the islands. Epic doesn't describe it all. What a great way for us to celebrate 10 years of marriage. Awesome!

와이메아 해변은 서핑으로 유명한 곳이다. 7미터가 훌쩍 넘는 커다란 파도가 찾아오기도 한다. 하지만 그것은 겨울의 이야기. 겨울이 오기 전에는 아이들도 놀기 적당한 파도가 해변을 방문한다. 물론 너무 어린 아이에게는 벅찬 파도다. 와이메아 해변이 유명한 이유는 한 가지 더 있다. 바로 아찔한 암벽 점프다. “암벽점프는 정말 좋아요. 기분전환이 돼요. 짜릿함을 느끼려고 사람들이 여기서 점프하는 걸 좋아해요. 아마 70년대부터 시작한 것 같은데 정말 재밌어요. 이전에는 암벽 주변이 모두 모래였는데 이제는 모래가 모두 물에 쓸려나가서 점프하기 완벽해요” 아름다운 자연, 그 자연을 한껏 누릴 줄 아는 하와이 사람들. 이 둘이 모여 하와이의 진정한 풍경을 완성한다.

Niihau Island off of Kauai, Sharks in Niihau Hawaii, The Forbidden Island- Shark Lagoon
Niihau Island off of Kauai has reef sharks congregating right off the unspoiled northeast beach area of northeastern part of Niihau island. Rarely witnessed, this incredible meeting only happens a few months of the year- April and May. One can only speculate what these reef sharks of Hawaii are doing.
