Wir sind Lena und Stefan aus Hamburg. In 19 Monaten auf dem Rad haben wir über 22.000km zurückgelegt. Unser Weg führte im März 2017 von unserer Haustür über Osteuropa in die Türkei, durch Iran, Zentralasien, China, Südost-Asien und schließlich nach Singapur. Von dort aus ging es auf einem Containerschiff in 3 Wochen wieder zurück nach Europa. Von Griechenland aus radelten wir zurück nach Hamburg. Genau 585 Tage waren wir unterwegs und bereuen keine Sekunde.

From Phuket to Ranong and Kawthaung, also called the visa run. Much more at with great pictures and videos Kawthaung, smuggling, casino and islands.
Kawthaung is opposite Ranong Thailand and a somehow interesting destination. The former Victoria Point is a real rotten place but it somehow let you breath the old colonial charm set up by the English and very seldom experienced this days. It give you a idea of the life Joseph Conrad and Maurice Collis wrote about, you can find his book about this area during colonial times:
A few islands around invites to play Robinson. Take a tent and have some time on the beach. You only can do this with a Myanmar tourist visa from the Myanmar embassy / consulate not with the entry visa you get at Kawthaung city. This visa only allows to stay at the city. If you like to spend more time around use the ferry from the casino -their pier is a little bit outside Ranong-. There you have the limited possibility to move around on the islands.

Leaving Ranong Port Thailand in a Rickety Old Boat.
If you ever go on a Visa Run from Phuket, you will most likely drive up to Ranong and Myanmar.
At the border you need to hop into an old longtail type boat and ride for about 30 minutes to the Myanmar Port and Immigration Office.
When the weather is rough, it is a bad trip but when the weather is sunny, you get a beautiful view of all the small islands and bays around Ranong.

Alone at the Maliwun Waterfalls in Kawthaung, Myanmar
I'm pretty happy I couldn't find any other video submissions from the Maliwun Waterfall on youtube. To be honest It's probably not any any persons bucket list, but it's still pretty damn awesome. The fact that you can have a whole waterfall for yourself is pretty neat too.
As it's difficult to rent a motorbike in most places in Myanmar, the only way to get to Maliwun is having someone else to drive you there. Myself, I talked to one of the drivers at the port going to Ranong in Thailand. As there's a few other great sights in the area, I struck a deal with the driver that included taking me to Maliwun.
