Road Ready Campground Reviews | Tall Chief RV Campground | Fall City WA
Road Ready Campground Reviews, Tall Chief RV Campground, Fall City Washington. While we were staying in the Seattle area to visit family for the holidays, we frequented this Encore Campground that is one of the closest to the city that's in our membership package. It had many pros, but also many cons. We did however like this park, and stayed there for 2 weeks at a time, and will definitely return,.
Located minutes from downtown Seattle, Tall Chief Resort offers beautiful, lush green scenery surrounded by nature and wildlife. Enjoy RV and tent camping on shaded campsites. Take a hike along our nature trails, or immerse yourself with history and culture in local museums and well known attractions, such as Snoqualmie Falls and Carnation Farm. You and your family will relish the various activities they have to offer!

Mount Constitution Hike
June 10, 2012. Moran State Park, Orcas Island, Washington. Our day started early on the ferry from Anacortes, then off to the trailhead. There are many places one could hike here, we chose to start at a trailhead on Mt Constitution Rd, about a mile past the Mountain Lake turnoff, elevation approximately 1100 feet.
A hike through a scenic forest led us to expansive views of islands and ocean and eventually we arrived at the summit of Mount Constitution and its tower, the highest point in the San Juan Islands. Here we took a nice break and enjoyed the view. Many people choose to drive here but we feel the hike is far more rewarding.
On the way back we stopped off at Summit Lake, Cold Springs, Little Summit, and then hiked back down the road. Overall I estimate we hiked about 8 miles with about 1500 feet of elevation change. Amongst other interesting sights we saw newts in the lake, and a very large anthill near Little Summit.
A trip to Orcas Island in the San Juans
We decided to take a camping trip to Moran State Park on Orcas Island in the San Juan Island group. It is about an hour and a half drive from our home in Clearview to the ferry landing at Anacortes and then a little over an hour ferry ride to Orcas Island. It was raining hard when we left home at 7 am but the sky gradually cleared as we made our way to Anacortes and there was some blue sky and sunshine by the time the ferry boarded. Along the way the ferry captain announced an Orca whale sighting and stopped the ferry about a quarter mile away from the pod. Everyone who was not already outside flooded to the front viewing decks and oohed and aahed as the Orcas broke water. My GoPro was not good enough to capture them, but we saw a number of fins break the surface and spumes shooting into the air. We sat dead in the water for ten or fifteen minutes before continuing our journey. It was a wonderful experience all around.

In addition the company operates a RV and tent camping area on the inland side of US 101 that is suitable to short term guests. This area is accessed via a gravel road with backin sites on grass. Large enough to fit a good size RV if not full the area is surrounded by trees.
For the waterfront RV sites the rigs are setup nose to tail in a manner that would preclude them from ever getting in and out easily.

J pod slowly pass San Juan Island - March 4, 2017
This video was taken from shore at Lime Kiln State Park on San Juan Island, Washington State. It was a bit of a crisp day as these orcas slowly moved against an ebb tide. These particular resident Killer whales feed primarily on Chinook salmon. The decline of their preferred prey is the number one issue they face as an Endangered Species.
