Amazing Wildlife Safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kazinga Channel Uganda 2019 (4K video)
Amazing wildlife, a huge variety of birds and primates are typical for the Queen Elizabeth National Park, located right at the border to the DR Kongo. The park stretches over a huge area from north to south where each part has its own distinct vegetation and landscape. Herbivores such as elephant, cape buffalos, topis, waterbucks and Ugandan kob are widespread all over the park. Lion, leopard and spotted hyena are the main predators. During our game drive from Ishasha sector to Kazinga channel we were incredibly lucky to spot a Ross’s turaco and a group of red-tailed monkeys. The famous Kazinga channel connects Lake George with Lake Eduard and is home to hippos, crocodiles and many species of birds like cormorant, pelican, stork and kingfisher. Especially the pied kingfisher can be found in big numbers.
Welcome to our birding and wildlife safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kazinga channel in Uganda in August 2019. We stayed two nights at the wonderful Ishasha Wilderness Camp in the Ishasha sector and two nights at the Katara Lodge located right at the edge of the rift valley near the famous Kazinga channel.

Queen Elizabeth National Park occupies an estimated 1,978 square kilometres (764 sq mi). The park extends from Lake George in the north-east to Lake Edward in the south-west and includes the Kazinga Channel connecting the two lakes.
The park was founded in 1952 as Kazinga National Park. It was renamed two years later to commemorate a visit by Queen Elizabeth II.
Queen Elizabeth National Park is known for its wildlife, including Cape buffaloes, hippopotami, crocodiles, elephants, leopards, lions, and chimpanzees. It is home to 95 mammal species and over 500 species of birds. The area around Ishasha in Rukungiri District is famous for its tree-climbing lions, whose males sport black manes. Poachers killed six elephants in the park in 2015, triggering both anger and frustration within the Ugandan conservation community.
The park is also famous for its volcanic features, including volcanic cones and deep craters, many with crater lakes, such as the Katwe craters, from which salt is extracted.
Services in the park include a telecenter run by Conservation Through Public Health and the Uganda Wildlife Authority, neighboring the Queen's Pavilion, park lodges, game and scenic drives, and boat launches.

29.7.2011 day 8 of our itinerary: We spent one day in Queen Elizabeth National Park. In spite of its enormous area, relativly less animals can be seen. This park still suffers from the (past?) poaching. Less lions, elephants, hyenas; even antilopes are rare, no zebras, no giraffes. Compared to murchinson NP a little disappointing.

Der Queen-Elizabeth-Nationalpark liegt im Westen Ugandas. Er besteht seit dem Jahr 1952. Der Park hat eine Größe von 1978 km² und grenzt im Westen an den Eduardsee und den Virunga-Nationalpark in der Demokratischen Republik Kongo, im Norden an das Ruwenzori-Gebirge. Die Höhe über dem Meeresspiegel beträgt 1000 bis 1300 m, im Ruwenzori-Gebirge steigt sie auf 5110 m an. Der Kazinga-Kanal. fließt vom Georgsee im Osten mit geringem Gefälle zum Eduardsee im Westen des Nationalparks. Bei Bootsfahrten auf dieser natürlichen Wasserstraße bieten sich hervorragende Beobachtungsmöglichkeiten für Flusspferde und Pelikane sowie für Zugvögel, die den europäischen Winter hier verbringen.
Im Süden des Parks, im Ishasha-Gebiet haben Löwen die Angewohnheit, auf Bäume zu klettern..

I went on a boat safari along the Kazinga channel that links Lake Edward with Lake George in Uganda, the channel is the central feature of the Queen Elizabeth National Park
Hippos, buffalo and crocs are all along the banks along with other wildlife and abundant birdlife. A small fishing village is also situated on the banks and pre-dates the establishment of the park.

Rain on Kazinga Channel Queen Elizabeth National Park Uganda
While we were taking a sunny boat trip on the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda we were suddenly hit by a violent rainstorm with zero visibility, preventing us from disembarking the boat at the launch jetty. Half an hour later, while waiting in the car for the road to clear, suddenly big pieces of swamp came floating by, preventing the now docked boat getting away again. Gotta love the African weather!
