La baie de Keem est accessible par une route étroite et sinueuse. Cette région de l'île d'Achill est vraiment authentique et semble inhabitée. Seuls sur cette route, nous n'y avons aperçu que des moutons.
La superbe plage de Keem est nichée au pied de hautes falaises, dont le mont Croaghaun à l'Est et Moyteoge Head à l'ouest.
Son étendue de sable blanc contrastant avec les eaux turquoises de l'océan ne nous laisse aucunement indifférent. C'est toujours un plaisir pour nous de découvrir de si beaux lieux.
A noter qu'il existe également quelques sentiers de randonnée dans ce secteur.
La pêche au requin pèlerin était très florissante à cet endroit dans les années 50 et 60. Son huile de foie était exportée pour servir de lubrifiant dans l'industrie aérospatiale. La pêche se pratiquait sur des barques traditionnelles appelées currachs.

We were over in Achill for a few days kayak fishing. Most of the days we were on the water there were a lot of Dolphins around.
It is fairly hard to get them in shot as they move very fast and pop up randomly so apologies.
I left the audio of my nervous rambling in for your amusement, with most of the heavy swearing removed. We also struggle to paddle in a straight line because we are too busy watching the Dolphins sporting all around us so no judging please :)

This 7m basking shark is attracting wildlife enthusiasts after it took up residence in a picturesque bay once famous for slaughtering the enormous fish. The huge basking shark has been spotted feeding in Keem Bay, Achill Island, Ireland, every day for the past month. This stunning drone footage shows the shark cruising through the waters just metres from the shoreline. The bay was once home to the largest basking shark fishery in the world, and at its peak, up to 50 sharks were caught a day, before the trade ended in the 1980s. Achill Island Tourist Office videographer Sean Molloy captured this stunning clip of giant shark close to the shore.
