Rolling Dachshund Pull Toy
Wooden Dachshund toy made by Delmar Eby of London, KY. Offered in the Fort St. Clair Kennel Club Raffle.
Delmar, a father of six, began making toys while teaching at a private school. Making toys was a way for his son to have something to occupy his time in the evenings. Although Delmar's skills are basically self-taught, both his father and grandfather liked to work with wood. He comments, Perhaps it's in our blood!
What began as a hobby in 1989 has grown into a full-time business. The Eby's toys are functional and are constructed completely with wood using very little hardware. Most of the wood used to construct their toys is obtained locally, with the exception of cedar and mahogany. Their items are finished with a natural oil that is non-toxic.
The Ebys are members of the Kentucky Craft Marketing Program.
The Ebys' work can be found at the Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft in Louisville, KY; at the Appalachian Artisan Center in Hindman, KY; Shaker village at Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg, KY; Shaker Museum at South Union, Auburn, KY; Red Bird Mission Crafts, Beverly, KY; Log House Gallery, Berea, KY; Appalachian Fireside Gallery, Berea, KY; Cozy Corner, Whitesburg, KY; Completely Kentucky, Frankfort, KY; National Quilt Museum, Paducah, KY; My Old Kentucky Home State Park, Bardstown, KY; Top Drawer Gallery, Berea, KY; and at the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, Berea, KY

Historian Edmund S. Morgan noted: “Ownership of property gave not only economic independence but also political independence to the average American.
The Library of Congress observed: “Between 1747 and 1799 George Washington surveyed over two hundred tracts of land and held title to more than 65,000 acres in 37 different locations.” Land was the future.
“Land is the most permanent estate and the most likely to increase in value,” wrote a youthful George Washington.

[00:00:00] I don't know much about anything, but I do know that our forefathers came here in hopes of having some land of their own. I also know that we get a lot of calls from people out of state who are just up to their eyeballs in expenses and regulation. Now, we got regulation here too, this is not the Wild West. We've got planning and zoning and things like that, but they're not ridiculous. Neither are the taxes. This is the property, by the way. There's about 30 acres here. 25 acres over here and about 4 over next door, which would make an excellent mother daughter situation. Father son situation, family, extended family. Maybe mom and dad, Cindy's dad. He's by himself. He needs to be down here and he can live in that house and we can live in the main house, for instance. If you're in the city and you're poor, you are really, really, really poor, because there's no you don't have any opportunities. You don’t have any options. Small house - Big Land 24-acre Farm. [00:00:58] When I was just in New Mexico, I thought, oh my gosh, now there's a lot of wealthy people there. There's a lot of poor people there. But I thought about it and I said, my God, there's no water here. So you can't grow food. You can't raise animals. You can't do. Now it's beautiful. And you've got that beautiful sand color and all the rocks and all that. But you can grow food here in Kentucky. We've got plenty of water. We average about an inch a week. This area is about 48 to 50 inches of rain a year. So you're averaging about an inch a week. So you can raise food, you can raise animals. Heck, you can buy a calf for about 100 bucks. 150 bucks. You could trade for a couple loads of firewood or maybe some fishing or whatever.
[00:01:39] Maybe have the farmer do your hay fields here and just trade for a calf for that. In 12 months, you'll have enough beef for a year or two for your family. There's so much to talk about with this property. I'm going to have a very long video, but I want to share all this stuff with you. Circular Drive. It's got four ponds that are stocked. It's got 1, 2, 3 big barns. This little shed here, a little she shed type thing, little outdoor barbecue grill and a great house. About 1600 square foot house with a 1600 square foot full basement. And it's not really walk out but there's a little walk down stairs there where the drain at the bottom.
Right up my alley. How about you? Did you like this? So you're overlooking your fields that all is part of it here, that whole field over there, it's about a 12 acre hay field. Got a barn down there. There's a pond down there. There's actually, I'm going to make sure that I'm right. Three RV sites. So if you have a big family and they like to come in RV and all that stuff go down there, they've got their own septic tank and everything got water power.
[00:03:27] I mean, like, it's serious. Now, could you run an RV park out here? Probably not. Not with 3. You wouldn't make any money. Let's see what we got here. for RV sites with water, electric and septic throughout the property. So even that barn down there has a full bathroom and we're gonna see it and then take you inside. And then there's another home on site. So, again, it might be a mother daughter might be a father son. It might be whatever, in-laws, whatever.

Mid-century modern homes for sale - Cheap living in USA
[00:00:00] Why am I super stoked today? I've been doing this a long time. 38 years. Sometimes I'll shoot as many as a dozen houses in a month. Now done so like a lot, but I've been to a lot of houses. I have never shot a postmodern house before and it's very cool. I can see the allure. This is fancy schmancy stuff. First of all, the law is amazing, as you can see. And you're really close to the lake. I'll put it down here were Lake Cumberland, as is not very far at all, but this is just super cool. Now, is this a house you're gonna move right into? Maybe. Maybe not. You're probably gonna want to rip up the carpet. You know, carpet smells like especially old carpet. It smells like your grandmother's house. We've got to get that carpet out of there. That's first thing. Everything else is. So those are the thing. All right. Let me back up. Stop... So those are the things you can fix. So there's things you can fix. Some things you can't fix. You can't fix a bad law. Look at this. This reminds me of some of those lots in like Buckhead in Georgia that go for millions of dollars and then they just scrape the house, which is, you know, up to you. You buy, you do whatever you want with it. Mid-century modern homes for sale - Cheap living in USA
[00:03:35] But that's not a big deal. You're not going to like that colored carpet. I'd like to know what's under those floors. I tried to pull a little bit up and it is down there. Like it's like government work. I'll tell you what that is, is like NASA, that carpeting coming up for me to peek at. But when you come on out with Ken, you guys, you're serious about buying it? Let's pull a little thing up for you. He'll pull it up for you. Pull up a little corner and find out. Is there okay under here? There might be. I don't know. But regardless what it is, you're in good shape. The windows are like new. I don't know when the windows were put in. If I find out, I'll put it down here.
[00:06:49] Now, if you ask for a four bedroom and you don't want postmodern, I don't know if they can scan that or not, but you're not going to find that many postmodern houses in Kentucky anyway.
[00:08:52] But it yet it looks brand new. Look at it. Can't even wrote down possible a new furnace. It's not a new furnace at all. It's 9 years old, but that gone. Does it look good? Two hundred armed service. You're good to go. You can put anything in here you want. Wonderful city gas down here. That's a good question. All right. What does a sea foam carpet? This is real tile. That's real tile. I love that. Gus, you got to frame that, too, along with the red carpet. Red shag carpet. The walls are all white. Yikes. Some people think that's a good idea. Some people like it. They're like, man, you've got to pay in a house way. I'm like, I like it. Whatever you want to do, dude, I'm all for it. Mid-century modern homes for sale - Cheap living in USA.
[00:11:50] And he's engaged. Whatever floats your boat. Got a little clean out there for the bathroom on the other side. Everything works good. These bifocals never work in new houses, which tells me leads me to believe that this house was built by craftsman and not by just somebody who went to Lowe's and picked up some materials. Here we are 50 to 70 years later. And these doors are still colliding like a million bucks. Well, you can't get on the boat. Stay down. If you get the idea, they're gliding easily. Right. I talked briefly about the windows. And it's just me and you talk in. This is not real numbers you like marble and I'll like for Formica and but what are we talking about 20 grands. Okay so I'm way off. What are we talking about 30 grands? I think you can really do some beautiful decorator that here for 20 or 30 grand. Certainly 30 grands. Then when did you go. You've got one hundred and twenty-two hundred thirty thousand dollars in a post-modern house sitting on one of the most beautiful lots I've ever seen close to Lake Cumberland. Like for real. That's so we only say half right. So if it's one hundred and fifty right we cut that in half to 750. We might have another Mid-century modern homes for sale.

Opening Talk - 38.05˚N, 84.50˚W: David Zurick's Photography at Mill & Max Gallery
::This is the version WITHOUT the Q&A:: Dr. David Zurick's opening talk during the reception for the Feb 19th opening of his large format photography exhibit at the Mill & Max Contemplative Arts Gallery MillAndMaxGallery.com . ~~~~ The exhibit 38.05°N, 84.50°W explores the topic of sacred geography through a series of black and white, large format photographs recounting the artist’s picture pilgrimage across Tibet and the Himalaya. The Oscar-nominated film director Eric Valli describes this work as “a love story; a wide and long pilgrimage”, and internationally acclaimed literary critic Jonathan Mirsky calls it “evocative, alive, luminous, and masterful.”
The Mill & Max Gallery will also host a free Artist’s Talk, as part of our mission to advance a mindful connection between art and community. Providing a glimpse “behind-the-scenes” into the artist’s process, David Zurick will explain why particular images were made, describe the cutting-edge hybrid technique used to create the prints, and unite the photographs within a broader examination of the idea of “sacred geography”.
~ The Artist ~
A true scholar of the Tibetan region, Dr. David Zurick is a Professor of Geography at Eastern Kentucky University, and Adjunct Professor of Geography at the Unversity of Kentucky. He was the Kentucky Arts Council’s featured artist of January, 2015. His books and photography have won numerous awards and acclaimed reviews, including the National Outdoor Book Award, Banff International Mountain Book Award Finalist (twice), and Kentucky Arts Council Al Smith Visual Artist Fellowship Award (twice). In 2009 he received the “Mt Everest Award for Lifetime Achievement” in Himalaya studies. He is a Fellow of The Explorers Club, has Counciled for the Smithsonian, and has won the Distinguished Educational Leader Award for Exceptional Classroom Teaching at EKU. Artist’s site:

Lexington’s new MILL & MAX GALLERY is a truly unique “contemplative arts gallery” at the Lexington Shambhala Community Arts and Cultural Center downtown. It is the latest part of the Shambhala Center’s non-profit mission to serve the community by raising awareness about mindfulness, meditation and spirituality. So, what does “contemplative arts gallery” mean? To us, art is not a thing, but an expression of our pure potential. Whether as maker or as audience, art helps us be in the present – much in the same way meditation does. Shambhala’s Mill & Max Gallery provides a multi-use community space to foster engagement with the whole of art, so that we may enliven, awaken, and connect to the world as inspired human beings. We will host a wide variety of events that focus on mindfulness and enlightened society; from visual art exhibits such as sculpture and photography, to lectures, readings, performances, salons, workshops, meetings and happenings. The Mill & Max Gallery is currently holding an Open Call for artists and performers; they may download a submission form from our website at MillAndMaxGallery.com . Instruction in meditation and mindfulness will be offered regularly, often without charge. The Shambhala Community Cultural Center campus is located in downtown Lexington, at the corner of Mill and Maxwell Streets, and includes the Shambhala Meditation Center at 351 W. Maxwell St., and the Mill & Max Gallery at 385 S. Mill St. .
