Back to Key West, Florida - December 2018 - Lorelai's Travel Diaries
Key West is a small island at the Southernmost point of USA, where I spend first 9 years of my adult life. I recently went back to visit my daughter, who decided to move back and start her adult journey where she was born.
It was truly a journey into the past, while being present, seeing the future ...
I was pushed to go back to revisit who I was before, it took a trip across the ocean and facing old friends and enemies, old places and memories. But I was just an observant of that world this time, I didn’t get pulled into the drama or old reactive behaviours. I saw the inner strength that I didn’t fully realized I have and making choices according to my heart’s voice was easy. (read the rest of the blog about my trip here:

Enjoy.
Ending Ceremony - looking around
Ending ceremony for SmartRide7 on Aids Memorial Pier in Key West, FL
Florida Keys - 30 years after my first trip. I Still love it here!!!
After walking around the wonderful neighborhoods near the Southernmost Point buoy in Key West, I wanted to sit down and do some reflection on how grateful i am to have the life I do and how thrilled I am about being in the Keys.
I'm at Higgs beach - a manmade beach sadly. So, while the parks around the area are nice and the AIDS Memorial is definitely cause for pause, its not as beautiful as the beach(es) of Bahia Honda Key. That video will come next BUT, I wanted to get this one up and share some of my feelings and experiences being back here, 28 years later.

3 people were murdered for this treasure... we went looking for it ????????
On our way through a small Hungarian town we ran into a murder-mystery. An ancient Roman treasure was found by a Hungarian soldier. He was found murdered in a basement closeby the mining pit where he found it. This Sevso treasure turned out to be worth over $100 million. Fortunately for us, we ran into the mayor that pointed us towards the place where the treasure was discovered and wrote us a certificate so we could enter the mine...

KEY WEST PARTY ● FANTASY FEST ● MIAMI
Key West’s world famous Fantasy Fest takes place October 17 through 26.
It’s an annual tradition that began in 1979 and has grown into a 10-day, raucous raising, party going, costume-wearing, body-painting extravaganza. With street parties, parades, food, drink and drag queen contests, the crowning of the Conch King and Queen and fundraisers to assist those with AIDS and HIV, Fantasy Fest rivals New Orleans’ Mardi Gras. Throw on a toga, a costume or just come as you are and join the nearly 100,000 people of all ages that flock to the island for their fill of laid-back, free-spirited, Halloween fun, Key West style! Enjoy the festivities that take place all throughout the island, including events and parties for the full 10 days.
The first Fantasy Fest was held in 1979 when two local businessmen, Tony Falcone and the late Bill Conkle, organized a party to stimulate business. The event has escalated to a ten day celebration that includes balls, a parade, costume competitions, AIDS fundraisers, body painting, drag queen contests, costume parties, alcohol, and pet and neighborhood parades for the whole family. Fantasy Fest has grown to rival New Orleans' Mardi Gras as an event drawing out-of-towners.
The highlight of Fantasy Fest is its parade featuring humorous floats, including one carrying the annually elected Conch King and Queen. In recent years, attendance at Fantasy Fest has surpassed 100,000 people, or more than three times the population of the island itself.
In October 2005, the event was postponed because of devastation wrought on the island by Hurricane Wilma; instead of being held at its usual time close to Halloween, it was moved to December and celebrated just before Christmas.
The best party in Florida! Enjoy! It's amazing halloween parade! Hot Parade!

An essay written by critic G. Roger Denson will accompany the installation on Reynoldswebsite hunterwreynolds.com
Momenta Art is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Hunter Reynolds, his first exhibition in five years.
Since 2001 Reynolds has experienced a series of life-altering events: 9/11, substance abuse, surviving Aids, Hurricane Wilma, a close friends suicide, the collapse of his immune system, and four HIV-related strokes that left his right hand partially paralyzed. Here at Momenta the Artist will present a series of large-format Photo Weavings that will cover the walls of the gallery representing artifacts formed in cathartic meltdown in which Hurricane Hunter together with Hurricane Wilma destroyed his Florida studio in the fall of 2005.
The hurricane artifacts represented in this installation include paint-splattered and water-damaged Photo Weavings from earlier series, artwork by other artists, CD covers, paper fragments, and shards of broken glass that were thrown and bonded by the forces of wind and rain (Hurricane Wilma) or Hurricane Hunter. The work reflects the impact these crises have had on Reynolds life through a series of large-scale stitched photographic works, artifacts and live Skype conversations and story telling performances while watching a mini-documentary Reynolds has assembled, comprised of video footage of the hurricane and Reynolds subsequent recovery of hurricane artifacts in his studio that transform the wreckage and artifacts of his personal history into powerful testaments of survival.
Art has always been one of the tools I have used to heal myself and others and to find order in the chaos of my life, by not only telling the story through art, but by transforming myself in the process of making it, using it to rebuild my life, finding hope and beauty and a desire to be alive.
Structuring, reordering, finding and building ways to arrange and place chaos in a compelling human context has comprised Reynolds art for the past thirty years. The process of presenting performance narratives and objects to draw attention to issues of gender identity, body politics, social and personal histories is a strategy Reynolds continues to employ in this current body of work.
Hunter Reynolds has exhibited his work at museums and galleries in America and abroad. He has been the recipient of many grants residencies and received a Pollock Krasner Grant this year and recently exhibited at Artists Space, Mary Goldman Gallery and at Gavlack Projects in West Palm Beach. Hunter Reynolds is a visual artist and AIDS activist. He was an early member of ACTUP and in 1989 co-founded Art Posi-tive, an affinity group of ACT-UP, to fight homophobia and censorship in the arts. For over 25 years, Reynolds has been using photography, performances, and installations to express his experience as an HIV positive gay man living in the age of AIDS. Reynolds work addresses issues of gender, identity, sociopolitics, sexual histories, mourning and loss, survival, hope and healing.
Momenta Art is supported by the Harriet Ames Charitable Trust, Lily Auchincloss Foundation, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, The Greenwall Foundation, Greenwich Collection, Ltd., The Jerome Foundation, The National Endowment for the Arts, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and individual contributors.
