This is a list of mosques, or more specifically, world famous mosques in Afghanistan. I've included lots of photographs. Mosques are the house of worship for Muslims, the followers of Islam. Mosques began on the Arabian peninsula, but today can be found on every major continent. While mosques may be a center of controversy today in some parts of the world, one has to admit that many of them are rather beautiful buildings. Since this list of mosques is of the most famous mosques in the world in Afghanistan, many of these will be especially impressive. So enjoy all the pictures of famous mosques!
Abdul Rahman Mosque
The Abdul Rahman Mosque, also known as the Grand Mosque of Kabul, is one of the largest mosques in Afghanistan. It is located in one of Kabul's commercial areas called Deh Afghanan, near the Pashtunistan Square and across from the once popular Plaza Hotel. The building is a three story, which is built on 3.5 acres of land. One floor of the building is dedicated to women only. The mosque is named after an influential Afghan businessman named Hajji Abdul Rahman.
Jama Masjid of Herat
The Jama Masjid of Herat, also known as the Masjid-i Jami' of Herat, and the Great Mosque of Herat is a mosque in the city of Herat, in the Herat Province of north-western Afghanistan. It was built by Ghurids, the famous Sultan Ghayas-ud-Din Ghori, who laid its foundation in 1200 AD, and later extended by several rulers as Herat changed rulers down the centuries from the Timurids, to the Safavids, to the Mughals and the Uzbeks, all of whom supported the mosque.
The Masjid Sabz or Green Mosque is a mosque in the city of Balkh, in northern Afghanistan. It is believed to be have been commissioned by the then ruler of the Eastern Timurid Empire, Shah Rukh, or by his wife Goharshad.
Id Gah Mosque
Id Gah Mosque or Eid Gah Mosque is the second largest mosque in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan. It is considered the cardinal religious mosque in the country, where a million people offer Eid prayers twice a year. It is located near the Mahmud Khan bridge and National Stadium in the eastern part of the city, in the Shar-e-barq of Kabul, which is one of the wealthier areas of the city. The 'Id Gah' means Prayer Ground .

Khost Mosque is the main mosque in the city of Khost, in eastern Afghanistan.

18 Killed In Mosque Blast In Afghanistan
At least 18 people were killed and 33 others injured after an explosion at a mosque in eastern Afghanistan, the latest in a wave of deadly attacks in the country in recent weeks.The mosque, in the city of Khost, was also being used as a voter registration center, ahead of parliamentary elections in October.The Taliban denied involvement in the blast, and so far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Kabul

Kandahar
Afghanistan’s second largest city with an old history and culture. One of the most interesting places to see in Kandahar is Aino Meena, the Friday Mosque of Kandahar, a holy Islamic place of worship considered of utmost importance in the country. Some even call it ‘the heart of Afghanistan. And Ahmed Shah Baba shrine.
Mazar-e Sharif
Legend says that the city of Mazar-e Sharif owes its existence to a dream based on which a shrine was built and then gradually the entire city around it. It is mostly known by tourists as the Blue Mosque City, referring to the Shrine of Hazrat Ali in the center.
Herat
Herat is an ancient city in Afghanistan, with several historical places of interest, such as the Herat Citadel or the Mausoleum of Queen Gowharshad. Today the Great Mosque complex still preserves some of its original decoration even if the majority has been replaced with newer works.
Jalalabad
Is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Afghanistan thanks to the large green areas and surroun-ding water. It was a station for Ahmad Shah Durrani, the founder of modern Afghanistan, who used the city during his military campaigns in India. The architecture in Jalalabad is beautiful, from the Mausoleum of King Amanullah Khan to mosques and the Nangarhar University.
Bamiyan
Located in central Afghanistan, Bamiyan is one of the last cities where the Buddhist expansion reached. Another culturally rich place. Famous for the giant Buddha statues, destroyed in 2001, later discoveries in the area include a few caves with wall paintings from the 5th and 9th centuries and another giant statue, named the Reclining Buddha.
