Road Trip 2016 - San Diego to Jacksonville
In September 2016, I got out of the military. It would have been much cheaper to pack my car up and drive across country to stay with my friend, Ambrose, than it would have been to ship it all back up to Alaska.
So enjoy this view of the Southern United states through the crack in my windshield.
Songs used:
Hand Clap - Fitz and the Tantrums
Riders on the Storm - Snoop Dogg ft. The Doors
Thomas the Rap Engine - KRS One and MC Lars mashed up with the theme from Thomas the Tank Engine
Best Bakery in St Augustine
I was so excited that we had a free day to hit my favorite bakery in St. Augustine. Which for history lessons is the oldest city in United States! This Spanish Bakery is open during select hours and only takes cash, but it is GOOD! We then did some homeschooling with the kids at the Colonial Quarter. This newer attraction was a blast for the kids and I certainly learned, too. Great fun for a day in St. Augustine, Florida.
More About Colonial Quarter: Take an immersive, captivating journey through centuries of St. Augustine's rich history, brought to breathtaking life at the Colonial Quarter—the revitalized two-acre signature attraction in the heart of the downtown historic district. Experience the Nation's Oldest City like never before with interactive activities, living history demonstrations and graphical stories. Take part in a musket drill, climb to the top of a 17th century watchtower replica, join the Colonial Crew Revue for an evening of lively historical entertainment, dine on authentic 18th century British and Spanish fare and more!

The Brotherhood: As Told by the Saints Class of 2017
Produced by: Max Rodriguez ('17)
Directed by: AJ Rodrigo ('17)
Written by: Sean Panado ('17)
Narrated by: Saints Class of 2017
The Brotherhood. We hear it, we say it, we believe it, but can we see it? Some argue, “Yes, of course, it’s right in front of you.” Others say, “Oh no, this thing cannot be captured.” And it’s nowhere near a school mission statement, vision, or philosophy. So this “Brotherhood,” the most undefinable, overused phrase, how do we explain it, encapsulate it, or simply say, “Look at The Brotherhood.” Let’s agree, The Brotherhood is something we can’t describe, other than a band of Saintsmen who are embarked on the same journey which we call the “Saints Experience.”
From lowly freshmen struggling to fit in, to confident seniors behaving as role models, we have evolved into gentlemen with the core values of unity, truth, and love. As I graduate, these values have become a part of who I am and have helped me grow into a young man ready to change the world. However, a Saintsman is much more than classy stud with high-quality values. A Saintsman is one in a community that spans across countless generations worldwide. He thinks critically and creatively to resolve complex issues. He participates in activities that prompt him to reach his full physical, mental, and spiritual potential. He respects others and understands his role in his faith and civic community. Most importantly, every Saintsman treats others the same way he wants to be treated and strives to be the change he wishes to see in the world.
For the past four years I have beyond blessed to be given the opportunity to live the Saints Experience with 175 other Saintsmen: my brothers. From the start of initiation during Freshmen Welcome Week to the upcoming graduation ceremony in the new St. Augustine Commons, the Class of 2017 has amassed breathtaking achievements, endured bashful hardships, and nurtured lifelong relationships that we will never forget. Freshmen dance lessons frightened us, The PIT energized us, and our retreats brought us closer than ever. The Brotherhood. The most undefinable, overused phrase cannot be fully explained, but brought out through the Saints Experience.
To our teachers and coaches: thank you for all that you have done for us. You mentored us both inside and outside of the classroom and both on and off the field. You pushed us to be our very best and helped us see the greatness within ourselves.
To our parents and guardians: thank you for giving us the gift of being a Saintsman. Your sacrifices were not taken for granted. Your unconditional love will be always remembered as we prepare for the challenges of the outside world.
Lastly, to the graduating Class of 2017: I love you guys. Thank you for making my Saints Experience one that I will never forget. As we begin a new chapter in our lives, let us always remember that no matter what happens to us, we will always be brothers. We cried together, laughed together, lost together, won together, lived the Saints Experience together, and now, we will walk that stage to graduate together.
The Saints Experience is in all of us, and wherever we go, we always carry these core values of unity, truth, and love, or unitas, veritas, and caritas. My name is ___________, and I am proud to be a Saintsman from the graduating Class of 2017.
Saintsman born, Saintsman bred, Saintsman spirit, from now until the end. -Mr. Tom Cudal ('72)
CIRCLE OF DREAMS
Nestled in the rolling hills of the northeast corner of Nebraska, St. Augustine Indian Mission and School has served the Native American people of the Winnebago and Omaha tribes since 1909. The roots reach deep into Catholic missionary history when elders of the Winnebago and Omaha nations contacted a local attorney to write a letter to the Bishop of Omaha, requesting that a school be built for their children. Bishop James O'Connor was uniquely prepared to meet their request.
As a priest in Philadelphia, he came to know the family of Katharine Drexel and soon became her spiritual leader. He watched her desire to serve the poor and her vocation grow. He also helped her to write the constitution of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, whose charter included building and staffing schools for Native American children.
In the spring of 1909, Mother Katharine Drexel arrived by train in Winnebago to personally oversee the construction of a church, rectory and dormitory / school for the children. The first classes were held in the fall of 1909. This woman, born into wealth, would use her fortune to help ensure a brighter future for the Native American children she loved.
Through the years, St. Augustine Indian Mission has touched the lives of thousands of Native American children and impacted the lives of their families. Today, St. Katharine Drexel's dream lives on, as the Mission continues to grow in excellence by celebrating and embracing culturally enriching programs and preparing students for a lifetime of inquiry and success.
