Views From Inspiration Point at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas
King Gillette Ranch is a 588 acre property managed by the National Park Service, Mountains Recreation & Conservation Authority, Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy and California State Parks located near the juncture of Las Virgenes Road and Mulholland Highway in Calabasas. On the ranch is a one mile round trip hike to Inspiration Point, providing spectacular views of the surrounding valleys. Lots of wind noise on here but it sure felt good on this mild day.
On a side note, a number of seasons of The Biggest Loser was filmed here. I hadn't even known that (since I don't watch the show) until I discovered The Biggest Loser facility on the ranch on my way to Inspiration Point. That explained the large group of, well, not skinny people making their way on a group walk/jog on the property (not captured on this video).

This scenic parkland at the lower end of the Las Virgenes Valley is a haven for larger mammals of the Santa Monica Mountains. At the same time, it offers a rare unspoiled view of California's rich archeological, cultural, and historic resources, including a Chumash settlement, and nationally significant structures designed for razor magnate King C. Gillette in the 1920's by Wallace Neff, architect of California's Golden Age.

If you go north on the 101 right and look off to the right you will see a trail going down the hill to Las Virgenes Rd. You can also get to it from the Chesebro trails. Its not worth the hike up but would be a good way to come back down from somewhere else.

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area - Largest Urban National Park in the world! #16/419
You'd never know you're less than an hour from Los Angeles in this outdoor explorer's wonderland - Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. It is the world's largest urban National Park and Los Angeles is only one of two cities in the world that have big cats (mountain lions) living within it's city limits.
We visited visitor center King Gillette ranch and found the second inspiration point in the National Park System. We visited Paramount Ranch, which had burned in Woolsey fire the year before. We hiked a portion of the Backbone trail (At Ray Miller trailhead) and camped on the beach at Point Mugu State Park.
