Kitsuki City - Strolling around a samurai town wearing a Kimono
The city of Kitsuki (杵築) is located on the southern side of the Kunisaki Peninsula. The city center is sometimes referred to as a sandwich castle town, because of its interesting topography of having two samurai districts on hills north and south respectively, sandwiching a commercial district in the middle. The districts combined measure about 500 meters north-south and 1.5 kilometers east-west, with Kitsuki Castle standing at the eastern end, close to the coast facing the Seto Inland Sea.
Successful efforts have been made to keep these historic districts free of distractions such as power lines and unsightly signs, thus preserving their authentic atmospheres. The beautiful town features multiple photogenic slopes and samurai residences that are open to the public. Amiable locals look forward to engage with visitors, making it a friendly environment for tourists.
A combination ticket for 800 yen provides admission to all of them. At Warakuan near the Historical Museum, visitors can rent kimono for around 3000 yen, dress in them and stroll the quaint town, taking pictures reminiscent of past centuries.

Arriving in Miyakonojo during the Kirishima eruption
Taken on 29th of January 2011 from the train entering Miyokonojo, Kyushu, Japan. Clouds of volcanic ash from Kirishima made the town a dusty moonscape.
Royal Hotel Kirishima
Located at the foot of the volcanic mountain, Sakurajima, and the start of the Kirishima Yaku National Park, surrounded in greenery and scenic panoramic views of the National Park. The Kirishima Temple and the volcanic lake are all near-by sights. It takes forty minutes from Kagoshima Airport by car, or ninety minutes from Miyazaki Airport. The nearest station is Kirishimajingu Station on the JR Nippo line and the hotel is just ten minutes away from the station by taxi.
The hotel also offers a large hot spring bath, and outdoor hot spring baths, a barbecue area. Other sports such as cycling, mini golf putting and the Takachiho Country Club are all close by. Ideal for those guests wishing to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings of the area. A popular wedding location for the locals. A good resort hotel.
It is modern, 9-storey white East and West building complex, surrounded by a golf course and tennis courts.
It is medium in size and connects to both the Western and Eastern building.
The rooms are very spacious with natural wooden furniture and large windows with panoramic views over the National Park. All bathrooms are well kept.
There are several restaurants offering variety of cuisine such as Western, Chinese and traditional Japanese.
20 km to the nearest fair site (kirishima intl concert hall), 20 kms to city centre, 26 kms to the nearest airport (kagoshima), 5 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 6 km to the nearest station (kirishimajingu station).

SAGA PREFECTURE – THE NORTHERN AREA OF SAGA CITY
This time we went to the northern area of Saga City, right next to Fukuoka Prefecture. We visited Mitsuse, Nao, and Furuyu by car, and had a great time at these little-known but amazing places. There are plenty of natural beautiful landscapes, small cafes and hot springs where you can find relaxation for your body and soul. In addition, we got the chance to experience traditional crafts at a workshop and learned a lot about the simple life from the early days at a guest house. The best way to reach those unique places is by rental car. It only takes one hour from Fukuoka City. Give it a shot and visit the northern area of Saga.

Ginzan Onsen, Japan - Ginzan Onsen Hot Spring Resort Town (2019)
Ginzan Onsen (銀山温泉) is an onsen (hot spring) area in Obanazawa, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Its name means silver mine hot spring. Ginzan Onsen's economy took off thanks to its booming silver production and eventually transitioned over to tourism when it opened up dozens of hot spring resorts along the central river that runs through the town. The mountains that surround this town yield rich hot spring water that is used both in the private hotels and public baths in the city center.
Ginzan onsen became nationally famous as it was featured in the popular television drama Oshin. Each year this onsen village sees hundreds of thousands of domestic Japanese visitors.
Internationally, this town saw a sharp rise in foreign tourism thanks to the famous snow covered sights in the winter. It has since been featured on international travel sites and agencies across the world. CNN has even suggested that this onsen town may be Japan's most charming winter village.
Fossils from the Miocene era have been found in the vicinity.
Note that access to this town requires riding a bus or taking a short taxi ride. There is more information on accessing Ginzan Onsen on their Japanese website.

YAMAGUCHI PREFECTURE - MINE CITY AND YAMAGUCHI CITY
This time we went to Yamaguchi Prefecture, next to Fukuoka Prefecture. The access is pretty easy. You can go there by car from Kitakyushu Airport in one hour by, and Shimonoseki Port in 45 minutes.
Mine City has a rich nature and is a famous tourist destination. Akiyoshido, a limestone cave which is older than 300 million years can be seen. Furthermore, once a year the so-called fire-walking festival is held in Yamaguchi City. Participants walk with their bare feet over the fire for the safety of their homes and a prosperity business year. Another interesting place is the Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media (YCAM). Here you can find new technology and gadgets to ease everyday life. By all means, please visit Yamaguchi.
