Kiteboarding / Surfing in India / Goa / Arambol
Arambol Beach is a traditional fisherman village, located approximately a one hour drive from the Dabolim Airport (GOI) within the Pernem administrative region of northern Goa, India. The beach attracts many international tourists, mainly during the winter season between November and March. Arambol has a distinct bohemian feel which is no longer found in other areas, such as Calangute and this inevitably attracts many alternative travellers.
Arambol beach is considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Goa, amongst many other popular locations including Vagator, Anjuna and Palolem. It borders North on Keri Beach and South on Mandrem Beach.
GCZMA AXE ON 3 TOP MANDREM RESORTS
The bid of Goa's northern most taluka of Pernem to emerge as the state's new tourism capital suffered a massive blow with the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) ordering the demolition of structures constructed by three resorts in Mandrem. Three resorts -- Bardo Club, Micassa Resorts and Mandala Resorts -- have built in the no development zone in violation of CRZ notification, 2011, the GCZMA found and directed its managements to raze the structures and restore the land to its original form within 15 days. All the three resorts are located within a one-kilometre stretch of the Ashvem-Mandrem belt. The action comes on complaints by well known NGO Goa Foundation, which had approached the national green tribunal (NGT). Mandrem is a designated nesting site for the endangered Olive Ridley turtles under CRZ 2011. GCZMA will ensure the removal of the structures and recover the costs from the alleged violators if they fail to raze the construction of their own. Five structures built by Bardo, the swimming pool and the entire Micassa hotel stretching out into the sea and 5 structures besides a ground-plus-two building in eco sensitive zone of Mandala resort face the axe.
Kite Festival, Goa 2015
FIRST INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL was held at the beautiful Mira Mar beach in Goa, India, on 21 and 22 January 2015. Among the 20 odd kite flyers from various countries, illustrating the wind patterns across the blue skies with their arresting creations, I ran into Ajay Prakash, who had introduced Goa to kite flying way back in 2004 at the Vagator beach.
