☆Bits of knowledge〜Kiyomizu Kannon-do〜
In 1868, a massive battle took place on the grounds of Kaneiji Temple between the armies of the Tokugawa shogunate and the Satsuma-Choshu Alliance, who supported the restoration of imperial rule. The outcome of this battle was twofold. Firstly, the Tokugawa forces were defeated, leading to the end of the Tokugawa shogunate and the beginning of the Meiji period. Secondly, many of the temple’s building were destroyed, leaving behind only a few original structures dating back to 1625.
One of the structures that survived the battle and was carefully preserved is the Kiyomizu Kannondo. Now on the re-purposed grounds of Ueno Park, formerly of Kaneiji Temple, visitors can see its architecture which dates back to 1631. In terms of its design, those who have been to Kyoto will see its resemblance to Kiyomizudera temple. Part of its uniqueness is a wooden balcony which extends over the hillside. This is particularly lovely spot as it has vantage views over the 1,000 cherry blossom tree-lined main walkway of Ueno Park.

☆Bits of knowledge〜Shinobazu Pond〜
Shinobazu Pond is divided into three sections. The first is known as the Lotus pond, which is named for the lotus plants that blossom along its surface during the summer. During the summer months, Lotus Pond is covered by a thick mat of fragrant lotus blossoms. It's not a surprise that Lotus Pond is a popular spot for photographers. It is believed that as many as twenty different species of lotus can be found blossoming in Shinobazu Pond, many of them are unique to this area, and can be found nowhere else in the world.
Did you plan your visit during a time of year when the park is full of visitors? Try taking a break by renting a boat at the Boat Pond. Located northwest of the Lotus Pond is the Boat Pond, which is known for its tranquil waters and boat rentals. This is where you can rent a row boat or pedal-powered swan to float around Shinobazu Pond. The best time to rent a boat is during the early to mid spring, particularly during the cherry blossom viewing season.

Japan 2015: Day 3 - Ueno Park, Zoo, Tokyo Museum, and Akihabara
We took a little stroll in the park this day visiting different shrines and temples. Along the way, we also visited Ueno Zoo and the Tokyo National Museum. I wasn't allowed to film too much in there so there's not too much footage, but it was definitely nice to see the history.
Afterwards we went to Akihabara, the anime/technology center of the world (or at least that's what it seemed like).
Finally, we travelled to tokyo dome where we enjoyed some christmas-themed celebrations and light shows.

⁴ᴷ Morning walking from Ueno station to Nezu Shrine #TYO-008
Very relaxing trail from Ueno station to Nezu Shrine, passing thru Ueno park.
In the way can see the Ueno Zoo entrance, Kiyomizu Kannon do (a small version of Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto), the food kiosks(baiten) in front of the temple and the duck pedal boats in Shinobazu Pond. After crossing the Ueno park go thru Shinobazu avenue, passing in front of Nezu station(subway) and finally go inside the Nezu Shrine, very peaceful and you will enjoy taking photos inside the small Tori gate.

Walking in UENO park, [上野公園] Ueno | Park | Tokyo | Japan | HD (أكبر حديقة عامة في طوكيو)
Ueno Park (上野公園, Ueno Kōen) is a large public park next to Ueno Station in central Tokyo. The park grounds were originally part of Kaneiji Temple, which used to be one of the city's largest and wealthiest temples and a family temple of the ruling Tokugawa clan during the Edo Period. Kaneiji stood in the northeast of the capital to protect the city from evil, much like Enryakuji Temple in Kyoto.
During the Boshin Civil War, which followed the Meiji Restoration in 1868, Kaneiji suffered nearly complete destruction in a battle between the victorious forces of the new Meiji government and loyalists of the overthrown shogunate. After the battle, the temple grounds were converted into one of Japan's first Western style parks and opened to the public in 1873. A statue of Saigo Takamori, one of the generals in the Battle of Ueno, stands near the park's southern entrance.
At the southwestern end of the park lies Shinobazu Pond, one of many reminders of Kaneiji Temple's former grandeur. The pond represents Lake Biwako (in a reference to Kaneiji's model, the Enryakuji Temple of Kyoto, which overlooks Lake Biwako). On an island in the middle of the pond stands Bentendo, a temple hall dedicated to the goddess of Benten.
Today Ueno Park is famous for the many museums found on its grounds, especially the Tokyo National Museum, the National Museum for Western Art, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum and the National Science Museum. It is also home to Ueno Zoo, Japan's first zoological garden.
Additionally, Ueno Park is one of Tokyo's most popular and lively cherry blossom spots with more than 1000 cherry treeslining its central pathway. The cherry blossoms are usually in bloom during late March and early April and attract large numbers of hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties.
Kiyomizu Kannondo was originally built in 1631 as part of Kaneiji Temple. Its design, including a wooden balcony extending from the hillside, was inspired by Kiyomizudera in Kyoto. The temple is home to an image of Kosodate Kannon, the goddess of conception, and is particularly popular among women hoping to have children.
