Das Chora-Kloster

Nach der Eroberung und Plünderung Konstantinopels durch christliche Kreuzfahrer 1204 verfiel das Kloster und mehr als ein Jahrhundert später wurde die heutige Kirche errichtet. Die Kirche wurde mit weltberühmten Malereien und Mosaiken der „byzantischen Renaissance“ ausgestaltet, dann unter den Osmanen in eine Moschee umgewandelt. Die Bilder wurden nun wegen des Bilderverbots übertüncht und erst im 20. Jahrhundert wieder frei gelegt.
