I left the Cathedral Church of St. Michael eastward to walk to another church.
In 1886, about 2 decades after the Meiji Restoration, Kobe Methodist Church was founded. In 1907, 3 Methodist denominations in Japan united, and the church changed its name. As the number of the church members increased, the church moved to the present place in 1923. It was known as a red brick church. In 1941, United Church of Christ in Japan was established, and the church changed its name again to Kobe Eiko Church in 1942. In 1995, the church building collapsed in the Great Hanshin Earthquake, and was reconstructed in 2004, retaining its appearance as a red brick church.
At the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate Era, the Kobe Port was opened to the outside world in 1867. Since then, Kobe has had various colonies to have various shrines and temples of different religions. If you want to visit those shrines and temples, you should either start from Sannomiya Station, visit the Cathedral Church of St. Michael first, and move counterclockwise, or should start from Hanakuma Station, visit Guandi Miao first, and go clockwise. I started from Hanakuma, walked up the hill, and visited Guandi Miao, the Cathedral Church of St. Michael (the Anglican Communion), Kobe Eiko Church (United Church of Christ), Kobe Muslim Mosque (Islam), Jewish Community of Kansai (Judaism Synagogue), Bhagwan Mahavirswami Jain Temple (Jainism Temple), Kobe Baptist Church, Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit, and Dormition Orthodox Church in Kobe (Greek Orthodox Church or Eastern Orthodoxy).

5. Zoom in on farmer Okita Haiyo
6. SOUNDBITE (Japanese) Okita Haiyo, 78-year-old veteran pig farmer:
Well, Kagoshima Black Berkshires are mid-sized pigs. Compared to larger varieties, muscular fibre is very fine. Because the muscular fibre is so fine, the meat is extremely tender.
7. Various of Okita Haiyo shovelling feed into containers.
8. SOUNDBITE (Japanese) Okita Haiyo, 78-year-old veteran pig farmer:
The feed also includes waste material from the production of soy sauce and flour used for making bread and other things like waste from making tempura. It is a mix of ingredients blended together.
9. Various of Okita Haiyo feeding his pigs.
10. SOUNDBITE (Japanese) Okita Haiyo, 78-year-old veteran pig farmer:
Compared to larger breeds, the meat also contains higher levels of amino acids. This has been shown very clearly in scientific studies.

LEADIN
A region in Japan is celebrated for the quality of the pigs it rears and the pork it produces.
Kagoshima's fertile soil produces an abundance of fruit and vegetables but it's also famous for its Black Berkshire pigs - with their links to 17th century England.
STORYLINE
Rolling around in the mud, snorting and getting dirty, they might appear to be ordinary pigs.
But they are actually examples of Japan's most sought-after swine.
They are Kagoshima Black Berkshire pigs, known locally as kurobuta (black pigs in English) and found in Kagoshima, located on the southern tip of Japan
The breed is a cross between a kind of pig imported from the neighbouring Ryukyu islands more than 400 years ago and England's famous Black Berkshires.
One of the earliest recorded mentions of the breed came during the English Civil War during the 17th century, when Oliver Cromwell's troops were quartered in Reading, according to the British Pig Association.
The records refer to a locally bred pig prized for its size and the quality of its bacon and ham.
Nowadays, the number of Black Berkshires is relatively small in the UK, where they are classified as a rare breed.

JAPAN: KOBE: FINANCIAL DISTRICT EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE
Japanese/Natsound
The financial district of Kobe suffered considerable damage in Tuesday's earthquake, and many banks found themselves unable to open their premises for business.
In order to get money circulating again, banks are helping each other out.
The bank of Japan, whose building escaped the main effects of the quake, was providing facilities to enable 14 different banks to operate under the same roof to allow customers access to much needed cash.
SOUNDBITE:
Translation: Because of many buildings being wrecked, to deposit and withdraw money is very complicated. It is also very difficult to cash cheques
SUPER CAPTION: Akira Chikagawa, Bank of Japan
Even those depositors whose building and possessions were destroyed by fire are allowed to trade new notes for old.
SOUNDBITE:
Translation: The banks are trying to pay people who have lost their bank notes and certificates, even if they have lost the proof of ownership. Many banks couldn't open for business because of the damage, so the bank of Japan will provide office space to help them reopen
SUPER CAPTION: Akira Chikagawa, Bank of Japan
The notes must undergo a laboratory test to prove their authenticity, to ensure the money isn't too hot. And in a cash for your ash deal, old charred notes are also checked over.

Where there is a China town, there is a Chinese temple. Sometimes, it's Confucianism, sometimes it's Taoism, and at other times, it enshrines Mazu, a Chinese sea goddess. After his death, Guan Yu came to be enshrined as a god, as is often the case with Chinese famous historic figures. Those gods are believed to belong to Taoism, so the temple is a Taoism temple.

Shikharband Jain
