Kochi Castle (Japan)
Kōchi Castle is a castle located in Kōchi, Kōchi Prefecture, Japan.
The main entrance is directly across from the west entrance of the Obiyamachi shopping area. Visitors are asked to remove their footwear before entering the building, however slippers are provided.
As the castle is quite old, the tatami rooms are visible but not accessible. There is a small museum area with information entirely in Japanese. This museum houses several cultural artifacts of the Tosa region not native to the castle itself. The upper rooms of the tower are all empty, but visitors are allowed to climb to the top. There is a railing but no net around the balcony.
Handicap access is extremely limited, as the approach to the castle involves many steps, and there is no elevator.
The castle grounds are now a public park, and a popular location in spring for hanami. They contain the Prefectural Library and the Kōchi Literary Museum, in addition to statues of notable scions of the Yamanouchi family.

Exhibition Opening Lecture—Modernism and Memory: Rhoda Pritzker and the Art of Collecting
In this lecture, Ian Collins (independent curator and writer) will consider how Rhoda Pritzker's background, character, and wide interests informed her unique taste in art. Rhoda's broad and singular aesthetic as a collector of twentieth-century British paintings, sculptures, drawings, and prints reflected a fondness for contemporary creativity and for works reminding her of her roots in northwest England.

FUKUOKA - Fukuoka City Public Library
The facilities of Fukuoka city public library were more than expected. They had a well-organized reading rooms with all kind of periodicals. It was 2 o'clock in the afternoon, and I could see people ranging from kids to senior citizens. They also had a small cafe in the library.
And after all of those, the interior and exterior design which combines 19th century catholic church and museum, was the ultimate beauty that signified the old city of urban serenity.
DAS 2018 Symposium: Displays of Internationalism - Ming Tiampo
‘Diasporic Cosmopolitanism, Making Worlds, Imagining Solidarity’
Session Date: 8 February 2018, 3.30 - 5.00pm
Venue: 3rd Floor Auditorium, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy
Histories of the Global South have a tendency to consider alternative histories that emerge out of South-South contacts and circumvent Western hegemonies. This paper argues that some of the most potent anti-colonial encounters that produced the notion of the Global South inevitably took place in the context of the colonial metropole. Using the history of the magazine Présence Africaine as a starting point to reimagine the metropolis as a site of ‘minor transnational encounter’ (Shih and Lionnet, 2005), this paper examines the role of Rasheed Araeen and the journal Third Text in worlding Asia and creating Afro-Asian solidarities, while retheorising the place of the metropolis in creating an imagined community of the Global South.
Ming Tiampo is a Professor of Art History and the Director of the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Tiampo has published on Japanese modernism, war art in Japan, globalisation and art, multiculturalism in Canada, and the connections between Inuit and Japanese prints. Tiampo’s book Gutai: Decentering Modernism (University of Chicago Press, 2011) received an honourable mention for the Robert Motherwell Book award, and she later co-edited Art and War in Japan and its Empire: 1931-1960 (Brill Academic Press, 2013). In 2013, she was co-curator of the AICA award-winning Gutai: Splendid Playground, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York. Tiampo is a founding member of the Center for Transnational Cultural Analysis at Carleton University, serves on the advisory boards of the Institute for Cultural Inquiry Berlin, Tate Research Centre Asia, and on the editorial boards of the Archives of Asian Art, the Canadian Art Review (RACAR), and the Journal of Asian Diaspora Visual Culture and the Americas (ADVA).
About the Symposium:
Displays of Internationalism: Asia Interfacing with the World Through Exhibitions 1947-1989 took place on February 8, 2018 as a part of the Scholar’s Weekend at the Dhaka Art Summit 2018. The presentations examined inter-Asia and transcultural projects as well as how artists in Asia and its diaspora intersected with liberation movements in the Global South. The symposium was organised by Diana Campbell Betancourt and Amara Antilla.
Ai Weiwei Curator Mami Kataoka on Contemporary Art in Japan
On March 15, 2013, Mori Art Museum Chief Curator Mami Kataoka presented a lecture at the Art Gallery of Ontario titled Contemporary Art in Japan: Visions and Views of the Universe. The lecture was part of the Asia Contemporary Speaker series, which is presented in partnership by the Canadian Art Foundation and the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada and its sponsors. This particular lecture was also presented in collaboration with the AGO.
Mami Kataoka has been the Chief Curator at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo since 2003. Among the exhibitions she has curated at MAM is Ai Weiwei: According to What? (2009), which has subsequently toured to the Hirshhorn Museum and will arrive at the AGO in summer 2013. (Kataoka is guest curator for the touring edition.) At the MAM, she has also curated Roppongi Crossing (2004), Ozawa Tsuyoshi (2004), All About Laughter: Humor in Contemporary Art (2007) and Sensing Nature: Perception of Nature in Japan (2010). Most recently, she curated Lee Bul: From Me, Belongs to You Only.
Kataoka is extending her curatorial practice in many international projects: she is the Joint Artistic Director of the ninth Gwangju Biennale (2012) in South Korea and the curator of Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past (2012) at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. From 2007 to 2009, she was the International Curator at the Hayward Gallery in London, where she curated Laughing in a Foreign Language (2008) and co-curated Walking in My Mind (2009). She was also Chief Curator at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery from 1998 to 2002. Kataoka frequently writes and gives lectures on contemporary art in Asia.
The rise of Asia on the international scene is one of the most compelling stories in contemporary art. Provocative artworks command ever-higher prices as markets expand, and impressive new museums, schools and biennials continue to proliferate. Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, Tokyo and Beijing have established themselves as major art-world hubs, competing directly with London and New York. In order to understand this phenomenon and its connection to global movements of economic and political power, the Asia Contemporary Speaker Series was developed.
Other lectures in this series include Vishaka Desai of the Guggenheim Foundation at the Art Gallery of Ontario on November 14, 2012; Jane DeBevoise of Asia Art Archive at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal on January 23, 2013; Philip Tinari of the Ullens Center at the Vancity Theatre on March 11, 2013; and Zheng Shengtian of Yishu: Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art at the Glenbow Museum on April 18, 2013.

Jacob Wren reading from Polyamorous Love Song at the 2014 BookThug Spring Launch
Jacob Wren reading from Polyamorous Love Song at the 2014 BookThug Spring Launch
From interdisciplinary writer and performer Jacob Wren comes Polyamorous Love Song, a novel of intertwined narratives concerning the relationship between artists and the world. Shot through with unexpected moments of sex and violence, readers will become acquainted with a world that is at once the same and opposite from the one in which they live. With a diverse palette of vivid characters - from people who wear furry mascot costumes at all times, to a group of 'New Filmmakers' that devises increasingly unexpected sexual scenarios with complete strangers, to a secret society that concocts a virus that only infects those on the political right - Wren's avant-garde Polyamorous Love Song (finalist for the 2013 Fence Modern Prize in Prose) will appeal to readers with an interest in the visual arts, theatre, and performance of all types.
Polyamorous Love Song sets up every human being as an artist - oversexed, furry and holding a gun - to play through wicked palindromes of sex performance and political protest. This book notably asks: Are we all pretending? Wren mines the ethical implications of both hidden literature and mass entertainment. Reading it, I wondered why I wasn't more afraid.
- Tamara Faith Berger
Everything Jacob Wren touches interests me, excites me - he's both sophisticated and innocent in attitude - he's a kind of wise old man and open-hearted lover. With his vivacious ideas, word play, and the serious and inane served up on a plate - Wren lifts my spirits, intellectual and other, because to know he's writing so beautifully in this mad, sad world is a wonderful thing.
- Lynne Tilman
Jacob Wren creates literature, performances and exhibitions. His books include Unrehearsed Beauty (1998), Families Are Formed Through Copulation (2007), and Revenge Fantasies of the Politically Dispossessed (2010). As co-artistic director of Montreal-based interdisciplinary group PME-ART, he co-created the performances En français comme en anglais, it's easy to criticize (1998), and the HOSPITALITÉ / HOSPITALITY series including Individualism Was a Mistake (2008), The DJ Who Gave Too Much Information (2011), and Every Song I've Ever Written (2013). International collaborations include a stage adaptation of the 1954 Wolfgang Koeppen novel Der Tod in Rom (Sophiensaele, Berlin, 2007); An Anthology of Optimism (co-created with Pieter De Buysser / Campo, Ghent, 2008); Big Brother Where Art Thou? (a project entirely on Facebook, co-created with Lene Berg / OFFTA / PME-ART, 2011); and, No Double Life For The Wicked (co-created with Tori Kudo / The Museum of Art, Kochi, Japan, 2012.) Wren travels internationally with alarming frequency and frequently writes about contemporary art.

What makes a true kung fu film? Many directors and actors have been associated with the kung fu genre, Hong Kong cinema’s most unique creation, but no one compares to Lau Kar-leung (1937–2013) as a purist of the genre and the kung fu form.
Associate curator La Frances Hui explores the history of the kung fu films, the actors and filmmakers associated with the genre like Bruce Lee, Gordon Liu, and Jackie Chan, and why Lau Kar-leung has been hailed as the grandmaster of kung fu films.

Imagination is more important than knowledge - Albert Einstein
Our imagination and everyday preferences can also tell us a lot about ourselves. Everyday, we see the sky above us, whether it be a crisp, morning sky or a star filled, dark night sky. In this video, you are asked the strange question of 'imagine your ideal sky' - the more detailed, the more imaginative you are. This video is for entertainment purposes only.

Kodaikanal is one of the best tourist place in Tamilnadu.
Kodaikanal is a beautiful and picturesque hill station placed in the Palani hills in the Western Ghats. The town also has been christened as the Princess of hill stations due to its scenic beauty and popularity. Situated in the Dindagul district of Tamil Nadu, the town is atop a plateau at the height of 2133 m above sea level.
Kodaikanal Photos, Kodai Lake - A Beautiful View
The town of Kodaikanal lies between the valleys Parappar and Gundar. To the north of Kodaikanal there is a hill that slopes down to Vilpatti village and Pallangi village. To the east, the hills slope down to the lower Palani Hills. On the south of Kodaikanal lies Cumbum Valley and to the west is a plateau leading to Manjampatti Valley and Anamalai Hills.
The meaning of Kodaikanal in Tamil is Gift of the Forest. However, there are four versions regarding the name since the word Kodai is four different meanings. The first is “the end of the forest”, second is “the forest of creepers”, the third means “the forest of the summer” and the fourth translates as “the gift of the forest”.
Tourist places in and around Kodaikanal
Kodaikanal is one of the most famous holiday destinations today. It has been a hit among honeymoon couples. Perched amidst a dense forest with an enchanting natural beauty of trees, rocks and waterfalls makes the place a must visit.

There are also several churches that are worth a visit.
Kodaikanal is also famous for its fruits such as plums and pears. The place is a chocolate lover’s paradise with numerous stores which sell homemade chocolate. Kodaikanal also produces eucalyptus oil. The rare Kurinji flowers which blossom once in every twelve years can also found in Kodaikanal. The place also offers scope for several adventure activities such as trekking, boating, house riding and cycling to name a few.
A glimpse through the history
The first residents of the hill station were people belonging to the Palaiyar tribe. The place has been mentioned in the Sangam Literature of the early Christian era. The British first entered the place in 1821 under Lt. B.Ward. They constructed and developed the town in 1845. Later during the 20th century several prominent Indians relocated to this place and settled here.

The airport closest to Kodaikanal is Madurai which lies 120 kilometres away from the hill station. Madurai airport is connected to Coimbatore and Chennai airports. Both these airports connect Kodaikanal to cities around the country and the world. The railway station nearest to Kodaikanal is Kodai road which is 3km away. Rabindranath Tagore's house - Jorasanko Thakur bari - archival footage
Popularly known as the ‘Jorasanko Thakurbari’, Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house is now a museum dedicated to the life and works of the Nobel Laureate. Built in 1785, the Jorasanko Thakur Bari is spread over 35000 square meters. Today the building houses Rabindra Bharati University, inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru on Tagore’s birth centenary, 8 May 1962. Within the complex is Maharishi Bhavan, named after the poet’s father, Maharishi Debendranath Tagore, where, as the plaque outside reads, “Rabindranath was born breathed his last here.” Today this house is a museum that has three galleries dedicated to Tagore, members of his family and the Bengal Renaissance. The galleries provide glimpses of intimate family photographs, live size portraits and Tagores evolution as a poet philosopher.
Unparalleled in talent, the Tagore family has produced stalwarts in the world of art and literature. The greatest among them was Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Also fondly known as ‘Kavi guru’, meaning the poet of poets – he was greatness personified in the field of art and literature. His most commendable work, ‘Geetanjali’ meaning offering of poems, had won him the prestigious Nobel Prize award. Tagore has always been a source of inspiration for the contemporary poets, writers and art lovers.
The museum has also preserved works of other eminent members of this illustrious family like Maharshi Devendranath Tagore, Jyotirindranath, Abanindranath and Dinendranath Tagore. It has also preserved the clippings of Tagore and a number of pictures and paintings of him and the entire family. The gifts received by him on different occasions are also present in the Rabindra Bharati Museum. The museum also has a section that stores old musical records. The Museum also includes possessions and information of the other great personalities of the 19th and 20th Century, who excelled in the field of Literature.
