Kyoto Festival: Young Japanese Girls Dancing at Zuishin-in Temple (Hanezu Odori)
Serving as a celebration of the coming spring season and in honor of the famous poet and Japanese beauty Ono no Komachi, Zuishin-in Temple's Hanezu Odori is held each year on the last Sunday of March. Based on an old folk song and dance tradition in the Ono area of Kyoto, Japan, the Hanezu Odori tells the story of Ono no Komachi and her ill-fated would-be lover Fukukasa no Shosho. Young girls perform this charming dance accompanied by koto music and a song that tells the sad story of The Tale of One Hundred Nights.
Let a monk from Zuishin-in guide you step by step through this local festival, show you the lovely plum blossom gardens, and explain the various dances and sights available at the Hanezu Odori!

EIKANDO ZENRIN-JI TEMPLE

—————————————————————————————
History
In the early Heian period (853 AD), the priest Shinjo, a disciple of Kobo Daishi Kukai, built a training hall for the practice of Shingon Buddhism on the site of present day zenrinji. Ten years later, Shinjo recived permission to establish a tample there from Emperor Seiwa and the temple got the name Zenrin-ji.
In the latter part of Heian period, the Abbot Yokan, commonly known as “Eikan”, became the chief priest, and zenrinji expanded greatly. Eikan intoned the nembutsu as many as 60,000 times a day and made great efforts to save poor people. Eikan received the respect of many people and at sometime zenrinji came to be called EIKANDO.

KYOTARO is an artist based in Tokyo who works in various fields, such as illustration or fashion, and also did collaborations with world-renowned artists such Katsuya Terada. Today she will introduce us to her work by visiting two of her exhibitions that are held in the city.
Our first stop will be the mograg gallery, that specializes in Japanese lowbrow art and often showcases new artists. KYOTARO's exhibition gathers more than 170 pieces of her work, mostly centered on pencil drawing, made during the past 15 years.
After discovering a few landmarks in Ginza, we will head towards the Morioka Book Store to discover KYOTARO's second exhibition, showcasing her manga work. The Morioka Book Store is unique as it only sells one book at a time, in addition to goods related to the book in order to recreate its universe. This is where we will discover MWUAI, an original story drawn fully by pencil showcase a white bear as its main character...
