Anatoli Dorin, Leiter des Konstantin Wasilyew-Museums, im Gespräch mit Michael Friedrich Vogt
Anatoli Dorin, Leiter des Konstantin Wasilyew-Museums spricht über das eben und den Werdegang des Ausnahmekünstlers. Seine Kunst und seine Ausdrucksweise durchliefen eine sehr deutlich wahrnehmbare Wandlung, die ihn vom gefeierten Systemkünstler zum Ausgestoßenen machte. Er wurde bereits als junger Mann wegen seiner Bilder ermordet. In diesem eindringlichen Portrait beschreibt Anatoli Dorin das Leben Wasilyews. Seine Bilder aber machen die Suche dieses Künstlers nach den tief liegenden, mythischen Wurzeln seines Volkes sinnlich erfahrbar.
Für das russische Volk nahmen Schriftsteller, Maler und Dichter immer die Rolle geistiger Führer ein, ähnlich, wie früher auch Deutschland einmal das Land der Dichter und Denker war.
Wasilyew hinterließ in seinem kurzen Leben tiefe Spuren im Bewußtsein der Menschen. Im Alter von 34 Jahre wurde er ermordet, als er von seiner ersten Ausstellung heimkehrte. Er wurde 1976 zusammen mit einem Freund von hinten mit einer Axt erschlagen. Es war ein Auftragsmord.
Anatoli Dorin stellte Nachforschungen an, um den Mord aufzuklären, was ganz offensichtlich mit allen Mitteln behindert wurde. Daß es um das ging, was er am Ende mit seiner Kunst ausdrücken wollte zeigt sich darin, mit welcher Zerstörungswut sein künstlerisches Erbe verfolgt wurde.
Schon als kleiner Bub fing er vor seiner Schulzeit an zu malen, und fiel auch seinen Lehrern durch sein bemerkenswertes Talent auf. Bereits mit 13 Jahren wurde er auf der berühmten Surikow- Hochschule für Malerei in Moskau aufgenommen und absolvierte danach die Kasan-Kunstfachschule. Er kehrte in sein Heimatdorf zurück, liebte die Schönheit der Natur und malte, wie ein Besessener. Seine Mutter erinnert sich: „Ich ging ins Bett, er arbeitete noch, ich wachte auf, er arbeitete schon. Ich weiß nicht, wann er schlief“.
Seine Arbeiten durchliefen dabei die verschiedenen kunstgeschichtlichen Phasen der Malerei. In Impressionismus, Surrealismus, Kollagen, Realismus, Avantgarde und Dichtung lebte er sein künstlerisches Talent aus. Dann fiel er in eine Phase der Depression.
Seinen Freunden gegenüber erklärte dies so: “Das schwarze Quadrat von Malewitsch endet im Nichts, führt in die Sackgasse. Ich weiß nicht, was ich weiter machen soll.“ Diese tiefe, geistige Leere lähmte ihn ein halbes Jahr, und dann, plötzlich und unerwartet löste ein Naturerlebnis eines Freundes den Knoten. Der Freund berichtete ihm, sei gerade aus Wald zurückgekehrt und habe ein erstaunliches Bild gesehen: Auf einer abgebrochenen Birke saß ein gewaltiger Adler, der mit seinem Schnabel sein Gefieder putzte. Er habe noch nie so einen großen Vogel gesehen und sich an das Tier herangeschlichen. Plötzlich habe der Raubvogel ihn gespürt, schreckte auf und wandte sich um. Sein Blick sei so durchbohrend gewesen, daß der Freund vor Angst fast erstarrt zurückwich. Wasilyew stand auf und sagte: „Wie interessant. Ich werde ein Bild malen und werde es ‚Der nördliche Adler‘ nennen.“
Es war das erste Bild, das wieder zum Realismus zurückkehrte und auf avantgardistische Formen ganz verzichtete. Aber es war eine ganz neue Art von mythischem, symbolistischem Realismus. Wasilyew hatte sich damit auf die Suche nach den Wurzeln seines Volkes gemacht. Wer und was waren die Vorfahren der Russen, was waren sie?
Wasilyew schickte den Betrachter weit zurück in mythische Vergangenheit. Er machte sich daran, das genetische Gedächtnis Rußlands zu wecken. Und für ihn öffnete sich damit die Tür in eine andere Welt.
Dies ist ein erstaunliches Bild. Alle erwarteten ein Tierbild mit dem stolzen Vogel von ihm. Warum ist dieser Mann „der nördliche Adler“? Welche Assoziation entstand plötzlich bei Konstantin? Betrachten wir die Arbeit genauer! Ein alter Mann dreht sich mit scharfer Bewegung zu uns um und mit seinen Augen durchbohrt uns buchstäblich. Er hat einen Adlerblick. Sein Pelzmantel, genauer der Kragen, ist so geöffnet, daß er wie die Flügel eines Vogels erscheint. Und seine Frisur ähnelt eher Federn. Es entsteht die Assoziation eines Vogels, eines Adlers.
Das Jahr 1969 wurde damit das Jahr des Beginns für solche Bilder, die auf die Erweckung des Bewußtseins seines Volkes gerichtet waren, auf die Suche und Wiederbelebung der Wurzeln. Wasilyew blieb nicht der Einzige – aber er war der Erste.
