Fiji Experience Part 1: mud pool in Nadi and National Park in Lautoka
This is a snap shot of my trip to Fiji in two parts. I went on this trip with my very good friend G in June 2012. Here we used Lonely Plant guidebook as our start point to discover Fiji. We started in Nadi which is not necessarily an interesting town. However, its surroundings are interesting. Sabeto Hot Springs and Garden of the Sleeping Giant are wonderful and a must-see. From Nadi we went to see Lautoka, which in my opinion is much cleaner and more beautiful than Nadi. It's a nice town to walk around and organise a trip to the Koroyanitu National Park which is inhabited by native Fijians who live there in villages. You can also organise a stay in one of the villages if you wish. Lautoka is also a great spot for a transfer to Yasawas or Mamanucas islands. Fijians living on these islands often come to the mainland by boats for shopping and this is when they take visitors with them. This can be oragnised in Lautoka through tourist center or an agent. Another option is buying a Bula pass which is a hop on/off pass. Yet, we discovered that oragnising a private transport was much cheaper.

Koroyanitu Forest park/Mount Batilamu
Hiking the best hike places in Fiji. Mount Batilamu located within Koroyanitu National forest park in Abaca Village. Only 30-45minutes from Lautoka city.
Abaca Full Day
Your transport will pick you from your respective hotel(s) in Nadi and it takes approximately an hour to drive to this mystic village known as ‘ABACA‘ the home of the Gods (Koroyanitu Mountain range).
ABACA is a National Heritage Park, home to some of our native birds and fauna. The drive gives one a birds’ eye view of the Mamanuca and Yasawa group of islands, as well as the city of Lautoka with lots of photo opportunities. On arrival at the village, you will be met by your guide/host who will brief and fill you in on the history and lifestyle of the villagers before you take on the trek which is approximately 4 hours return.
On the trek to the spectacular waterfalls, the guide will keep you informed of the wildlife and herbal medicines. A great opportunity for bird watching as well.
A Fijian lunch will be served on your return to the village after partaking in a traditional ‘Welcome Kava Ceremony’. We have more photo stops followed by a visit to the local fruit, vegetable and handicraft markets before drop off at your respective hotel(s).

We jump Bouma Falls!
This was super exciting to do! Took quite an effort to get up there but well worth the effort. Sau took good care of me as I climbed the rocks to get there. Next time I go, I am taking my snorkel gear with flippers so I can get in behind the falls.
Rapids at Abaca, base of Mt Koroniyatu (Devils Mountain) Ev
Only water source for kms- flora and fauna endemic to the area found no where else in the world. Local legends talk of the area behind possessed by the Tevoro'- the devil. In order to travel there a 4WD had to cross two swollen river's, pass 2 landslide which removed part of the dirt track and eventually got bogged in the second river. Remote and ruggerred.

Mount Balimotu - Running The Belly Of The Sleeping Giant
What a better way to end our Fijian Adventure that with Hike and Run to Mount Balitomu, The Belly of The Sleeping Giant!
When Emi arrived the next morning to pick us up from our accommodation we told her about our change of plans and that we wanted to climb up to the top of The Belly of The Sleeping Giant, Mount Balitomu. We had done some research and found out about a village called Abace in the Koroyanitu Mountain range. It's a National Heritage Park and is the starting point for this hike, Emi assured us she had been there many times and despite the roads being rough her trusty little Hyundai would get us there!

MUST DO!! ABACA VILLAGE MOUNTAIN TREK!!! (260 | Fiji Travel Vlog)
27 April 2019 - Abaca Village II | VLOG 260
We wake up and have breaky in our village homestay ready for our big 6-hour round trip mountain trek!! ????????????⛰
We ascend from the village at 9am weaving our way through the high grasslands as we work our way towards the forest of the mountains. ???????????? At the halfway point we stop for a water break and fill up our water bottles from the fresh waterfalls that run down the mountains. We journey upwards through the forest covered in an eerie mist with the occasional light rain. ☁️☔️
We summit just after midday at the lookout point to what should be a view stretching to the ocean, but instead are met with the grey endless mist that covered our view. Standing on the cliffs edge looking down I’ve never seen something so surreal!! It was honestly a crazy feeling!!!
Our luck turned as the mist began to clear and opened the view of the entire landscape, with Nadi in the distance and the Mamanuca Islands further beyond! It was breathtaking!! And of course I couldn’t help myself and take Mav up for a spin. What a sight!! ????⛰☁️
We return at 3:30pm for a late but well earned lunch. We said bye to the local kids before headed back down to Lautoka town then caught the bus to Nadi for our last night here in Fiji, a transit which took 3 hours after a long day hiking. What a day it was!! ????????????????????
We spend the morning in Nadi before making our way to the airport for our flight back home! Definitely a very different experience in Fiji the second time round I was glad to do have visited again, explored and experienced the new things I enjoy doing from 10 years ago! Thanks again Fiji for the memories and we’ll surely see you next time!! ????????♂️????????
