Slovakia- Bratislava (Central Europe)
Bratislava also known by other names) is the capital of Slovakia, and with a population of about 450,000, the country's largest city. The greater metropolitan area is home to more than 650,000 people. Bratislava is in southwestern Slovakia, occupying both banks of the River Danube and the left bank of the River Morava. Bordering Austria and Hungary, it is the only national capital that borders two independent countries.
Bratislava is the political, cultural and economic centre of Slovakia. It is the seat of the Slovak president, the parliament and the Slovak Executive. It is home to several universities, museums, theatres, galleries and other important cultural and educational institutions. Many of Slovakia's large businesses and financial institutions also have headquarters there. Bratislava is the sixth richest region of the European Union and GDP per capita is about 3 times higher than in other Slovak regions.
The history of the city has been strongly influenced by people of different nations and religions, namely by Austrians, Croats, Czechs, Germans, Hungarians, Jews, Serbs and Slovaks. The city was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, a part of the larger Habsburg Monarchy territories, from 1536 to 1783 and has been home to many Slovak, Hungarian and German historical figures.
Bratislava is situated in south-western Slovakia, within the Bratislava Region. Its location on the borders with Austria and Hungary makes it the only national capital that borders between two countries. It is only 62 kilometres (38.5 mi) from the border with the Czech Republic and only 60 kilometres (37.3 mi) from the Austrian capital Vienna.
The city has a total area of 367.58 square kilometres (141.9 sq mi), making it the second-largest city in Slovakia by area (after the township of Vysoké Tatry). Bratislava straddles the Danube River, which it had developed around and for centuries was the chief transportation route to other areas. The river passes through the city from the west to the south-east. The Middle Danube basin begins at Devín Gate in western Bratislava. Other rivers are the Morava River, which forms the north-western border of the city and enters the Danube at Devín, the Little Danube, and the Vydrica, which enters the Danube in the borough of Karlova Ves.
The Carpathian mountain range begins in city territory with the Little Carpathians (Malé Karpaty). The Záhorie and Danubian lowlands stretch into Bratislava. The city's lowest point is at the Danube's surface at 126 metres (413 ft) above mean sea level, and the highest point is Devínska Kobyla at 514 metres (1,686 ft). The average altitude is 140 metres (460 ft).Wikipedia

Susedí s Českom, Rakúskom, Poľskom, Ukrajinou a Maďarskom. Podľa Köppena prechádza hranica kontinentálneho a oceánskeho podnebia východným, resp. stredným Slovenskom. Slovakia is a landlocked country in Central Europe with a population of over five million and an area of about 49,000 square kilometres (almost 19,000 square miles). The Slovak Republic borders the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. The largest city is its capital, Bratislava. Slovakia is a member state of the European Union, NATO, OECD, WTO, and other international organizations. The Slovak landscape is noted primarily for its mountainous nature, with the Carpathian Mountains extending across most of the northern half of the country. Amongst these mountain ranges are the high peaks of the Tatra mountains.[1] To the north, close to the Polish border, are the High Tatras which are a popular skiing destination and home to many scenic lakes and valleys as well as the highest point in Slovakia, the Gerlachovský štít at 2,655 metres (8,711 ft), and the country's highly symbolic mountain Kriváň. Slovakia is a parliamentary democratic republic with a multi-party system. The last parliamentary elections were held on June 17, 2006 and two rounds of presidential elections took place on April 3, 2004 and April 17, 2004. Slovakia has achieved a difficult transition from a centrally planned economy to a modern, high-income[13] market economy. Major privatizations are nearly complete, the banking sector is almost completely in private hands, and foreign investment has picked up.

Study workshop of the Slovakia 07 - 09.11.2012_part.2
Slovak and Ukraine participants of the workshop visited the centers in Košice and Prešov regions in order to see how they work, methods of working and their history. The crossborder project Creation of two First contact centers in Ukraine and their mutual cooperation was written and is currently implemented by the First contact center.
Ľuboslav Závacký - director of First contact center, Michalovce: This projects goal is to create two advisory centers for small and middle sized businessmen from equipping their offices, up to the finding of personnel and their schooling, and in the second phase of the project the creation of cooperation between Ukraine and Slovak centers, plus the cooperation between businessmen from even further regions, such as Irshava and Kolomyia.
The goal of the workshop was to show the Ukraine founders how the regional-advisory and information centers in Poprad and Prešov work, as well as the First contact center in Levoča and Michalovce, but also business incubator in Spišká Nová Ves.
Oleh Luksha - project manager: Concretely, we got familiar with how these institutions work and we also saw that they always work individually, in a way that each individual region requires. For example in Poprad, its focus is on the development of tourism, in Levoča its work which is relevant with the fact that the city is on the list of worldly, cultural and natural inheritance UNESCO and tries to increase the level of tourist traffic in the city, but also the problem which relates to the development of towns.
Svitlana Hanych - project coordinator: We received detailed information about when the centers were established, what services they offer, about their programs and projects. In order to create and spread the network of first contact centers in Ukraine we have gotten a big amount of useful information, which means that we will be able to take some experiences from Slovakia in order to create first contact centers in Ukraine.
The last, third day of the workshop, Ukraine participants visited the First contact center in Michalovce. At the conference were thoroughly discussed basic points of the project, time schedule of individual activities, as well as the task of individual partners of the project. After lunch was presented a form of documents, which have to be prepared during a project. Among them are work statements, monitoring reports, drawing of financial means and many others. Partners on both sides hope, that the project will be rated positively, and that it will bring big results for the given region. From Michalovce for television Zemplín, Simona Inkabová.

CROSSING the BORDER of SLOVAKIA into HUNGARY | Sátoraljaújhely, Hungary | The Fluffies Channel
The Fluffies took a day trip to visit the birthplace of Eric's paternal grandmother and had a chance to do something exciting: cross the border of Slovakia and back (Christian loves geography).
Sátoraljaújhely is a town located in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county in Northern Hungary near the Slovak border. It is 82 kilometres (51 miles) east from the county capital Miskolc and 257 km East from Budapest, capital of Hungary.
Originally, Sátoraljaújhely was part of Hungary, but because of the Treaty of Trianon, Hungary lost its northern territories. The new border was set at the Ronyva stream, splitting the city into two parts. One-fifth of the population and one-fourth of the territory of the town became part of Czechoslovakia. The newly created village got the name of Slovenské Nové Mesto (Slovak new town) in Slovak; Szlovákújhely (Slovak new town) or Kisújhely (Little new town) in Hungarian.
Slovenské Nové Mesto is a town in Košice Region in Eastern Slovakia (480 km from Bratislava). Wine lovers will have to make a visit to the cellar of the Slovak Tokaj vineyards.

Schengen Gate - Partnership without Barriers
A project provided by Carpathian Euroregion and City of Košice, with financial support of Ministry of Construction and Regional Development, called „Schengen Gate looking for the common roots is focused on the partnership without barriers. It is a program of good neighborhood and cross- border communication at the eastern border of EU. The Slovakian, 98 kilometers long border with Ukraine has become the entrance into the Schengen space. There is a real threat that communication in the border area as well as common human contacts may shiver. From the EU point of view, there is also a possibility that the border may have to deal with an increasing number of illegal migrants. Better protection of the eastern border of EU was one of the terms under which we entered the Schengen space and Slovakian government spent millions on improving personal and technical support of the Ukrainian border. However, that should not lead into the creation of a new Iron Courtain.
The goal of the project is the promotion of the Open gate - a mean of communication and exchange between the neighbors. The project was also based on the Agreement of Partnership between the cities of Košice and Uzhhorod, signed in 1993. It looked for persons, facts, and events documenting traditional, actual and historical connections between the inhabitants of Eastern Slovakia and Western Ukraine. Its goal was to create new partnerships and friendships at the Slovak-Ukrainian border. To broaden the knowledge of common values, history and culture on both sides of border. To use the existing potential to order to present the region and tourism. This area is one of the least industrialized regions of Europe, which is reflected by little pollution and leaves the environment quite unharmed. One of the goals of the project is to present this potential for creating a zone which might become important tourist destination, involving local folklore, tradition of winery, gastronomic, history, ethnic and religion diversity, multiculturalism and natural beauty. Its ambition was also to eliminate the risks that might arise together with the creation of the new line of demarcation between East and West especially by the means of intensive communication.
Slovak:
Hľadal osobnosti, fakty a udalosti, dokumentujúce tradičné, aktuálne aj historicky podložené väzby a kontakty medzi obyvateľmi východného Slovenska a západnej Ukrajiny. No a v neposlednom rade jednou z ambícií projektu bolo aj eliminovanie bezpečnostného rizika spojeného s možnosťou vytvorenia novej deliacej čiary, či nárazníkového pásma voči východu a to najmä prostredníctvom intenzívnejšej komunikácie.

Study tour across Slovakia 10.-12.06.2015

Within the scale of the project were built and technically equipped two first contact centers, one in the city Kolomia and the second one in the city Iršava. A cycle of personnel training took place in the newly opened First contact centers. This study tour was meant to introduce the new personnel and project team with the activity and work of the counseling centers for businessmen, which are active in Slovakia and in our region. Individual information centers have various subjects of activities. For example in Levoča, it is focused on the development of countryside tourism.
SY: Andrea Hradiská - CPK Levoča- If I should advise our colleagues in Ukraine how to lead their centers or what is important then the first thing is to consider, if financial means or sources from state programs exist, which they could use and if not, it is necessary to consider what human capabilities they posses, because it is important in what region you are situated.
The idea for the establishment of information centers in Slovakia went into realization 20 years ago. In the year 2002 were these centers expanded with offices which act in regions with a high rate of unemployment. Among the most active centers count the regional consultancy - information center in Prešov.
SY: Lucia Krišová - manager of RPIC Prešov - We operate on the market for 20 years now, so the experiences kept pilling up on us. They are experiences with projects, as well as clients, who went through our hands, business plans which we developed and institutions with which we cooperate. Sometimes, we have the feeling, that the public doesn´t know much about us, but we sometimes also feel that all it takes is a seminar or an event where we can present ourselves and the response is instantly bigger. I have to say that our clients try to spread informations about us.
All these informations were processed and submitted to our Ukraine partners, who took the idea, but adjusted it according to Ukraine legislative. They serve as a work manual for newly opened centers in Ukraine.
SY: Vitaliy Galaichuk - director of FCC Kolomia - First I would like to thank mr. Závacký for his invitation and for the possibility to see Michalovce and other cities during our project for the creation of partner first contact centers in Ukraine. We have our own office, we have staff who work and gain european experiences, which we will apply here in the Ukraine working with the first contact centers in Iršava. Michalovce and other cities of Slovakia.
