Kozan-ji Temple [4K] The Garden of Kyoto Japan
Kozan-ji is an ancient temple said to have been established in the 8th century. It is recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage. The temple was restored in the 12th century by the high priest Myoe. At that time, the residence of a member of the Imperial family was moved here as Sekisui-in, which is designated as a National Treasure. In the spacious precinct of Kozan-ji is the Butto (a pagoda built for the purpose of Buddhist worship), designated as an Important Cultural Property. The precinct also contains the oldest tea field in Japan, which is believed to have been first planted by Myoe. Among the treasures housed here is the Choju-Jinbutsu-giga, a set of four picture scrolls (a form of ancient Japanese scroll painting) dating from around the 10th and 11th centuries. This set of picture scrolls is designated as a National Treasure. The original is currently stored in Tokyo National Museum. On exhibit at Sekisui-in are precise replicas of the original.

Jizo-in Temple is a Buddhist temple, which is also known as Take-no-tera (temple of bamboo), not because it is constructed of bamboo, but because it is in a bamboo forest. This bamboo forest creates a mystical atmosphere for your walk along the narrow path towards the temple gate. The temple grounds feature a zen style moss garden. Jizo-in Temple is a Buddhist temple, which is part of the Rinzai sect of Buddhism. The current temple buildings mostly date back to Edo period, as the original buildings were destroyed in the fires of the Onin war (1467-77). The temple was established by Hosokawa Yoriyuki in 1367. Jizo-in Temple is in the Arashiyama mountains, close to the World Heritage Listed Saihoji Temple.

To-ji - Kyoto - Letters from Japan
The Temple was originally one of two guardian temples that were built on the east and west sides of the main entrance to Kyoto when it was the capital of Japan. This was during the Hein Period, just about 12-hundred years ago. The west temple no longer exists, but Toji, which literally translates to “east temple” survived and is now a designated UNESCO World Heritage site.
Toji Temple is located southwest of Kyoto Station — just one stop on the Kintetsu Line. From Toji station, it’s about a ten minute walk. Alternatively, you could exit the south entrance of Kyoto station and walk south to the temple grounds. Either way, keep in mind that you’ll want to enter through the north entrance, as the south entrance does not offer access to the main halls and gardens. The entrance fee for adults is 500 yen.

Genko-an Temple is a Buddhist temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism in the Kita Ward of Kyoto. Genko-an Temple is famous for its two windows that look out at the temple's Japanese garden. One window is round (The Window of Enlightenment) and the other square (The Window of Confusion), even though they provide an almost identical view, the view appears very different to the viewer. Genko-an Temple was originally a hermitage constructed by the head priest of Daitokuji Temple. Genko-an Temple also features the 'Blood Ceiling', which was constructed from the floorboards taken from Fushimi Castle when it was being.

Rokuo-in [4K] The Garden of Kyoto Japan
Rokuoin Temple, located in the west of Kyoto, near Arashiyama is known for its autumn leaves and is a less-visited temple than its famous neighbor, Tenryuji.
The long, straight entrance path leading from the main gate at Rokuoin Temple is lined with maple trees which burst into color during November. The garden surrounding the main hall employs the borrowed scenery of Arashiyama.

Enko-ji Temple [4K] The Garden of Kyoto Japan
Enko-ji Temple was originally founded as the site of the Rakuyo School by Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Since anyone was admitted, both clergy and laity, the school possessed such an open spirit that versatile talents thrived there,
from learned priests to writers and artists, and thus the temple played an important role in the development of Japanese culture.
From the Meiji era, the temple was used as a seminary for nuns and generously accepted every woman who renounced the world.
The Rinzai Zen Buddhism of Enko-ji teaches listening to one’s inner voice and seeking truth. That philosophy can be still seen in the temple buildings as well as the gardens.
