Come and explore with us the Kumasi Fort and the Military Museum which is situated in- and outside Kumasi Fort. Even if you're not too interested military exhibitions, we still urge to visit the museum, since the history of the fort is very important to Kumasi and the Anshanti Kingdom.

MY TOUR TO THE GHANA ARMED FORCES MUSEUM (KUMASI)
I had the chance to visit the Ghana Armed Forces Museum in Kumasi, i documented the memory so that i can remember this military history. I saw everything about the war, it connects all the bites and pieces of Ghana history of the Ashantis and Ghana in general. It was a great experience, i got to see what the real Yaa Asantewaa looks like but i was so scared when the guide shot the door of the prison while i was inside lol. Entry fee is 5-10ghc but filming and taking pictures attracts extra charges . Location was just at the center of the town so transportation is very available

Kumasi Fort - Armed Forces Museum [HD] - December 2011
This clip shows the exterior of the Kumasi Fort, located just west of Prempeh I Circle in the Ashanti Region capital, Kumasi.
The fort was the scene of a siege in 1900, when the Ashantis declared war on the British & besieged the fort for a couple of months. Nowadays, it is a town landmark & the home of the Ghana Armed Forces Museum.
The clip shows the exterior of the building, where several interesting military vehicles, guns, and former Ghana Air Force aircraft are on display. Of particular interest to me was the Soviet-made WW2 era anti-tank gun, and the Stuart M3 light tank.
Not shown in the clip is the interior, which houses weaponry & militaria captured from the campaigns of the Royal West African Frontier Force (RWAFF) in WW1 & WW2, and from the two West African divisions deployed in Burma in WW2.
The museum also stores militaria from all arms of the Ghana Armed Forces, and has a great history of the Ghana military. Of particular interest is the formal dinner jackets for former Ghana Heads Of State, Afrifa & Ankrah.
The museum is probably the best organized and most interesting of the Ghanaian museums I have seen in my multiple trips to Ghana.

Thursday, August 21st 1969.
Soundless footage of Brigadier Akwasi Afrifa visiting the 4th Battalion and the 2nd Mechanical Transport Company of the Ghana Army at the Uaddara Barracks in the city of Kumasi.
In his address, Brigadier Afrifa, the Chairman of the National Liberation Council (NLC), the ruling military authority, said that he would be consulting the army about the proposal by a constituent assembly to have a three man ruling commission take the role of president for a duration of up to 3 years after the establishment of civilian government in October.
He reminded the soldiers to exercise their civic duty to vote and said that neither he or their commanders could tell them who they could vote for.

Kumasi Kidjitia. Very big and diverse market, dont misse the foose line area where second hands clothes are being sold on both side of an old train track. edit
Manhyia Palace Museum, [1]. 9 AM to 5 PM. Built in 1925 by the British as the residence of King Asantehene Prempeh I, this museum is also a palace. Walking through the museum, you will learn about the function of each room when it was used by the kings, as well as seeing artwork and artifacts from the Asante kings. edit
Ghana Armed Forces Museum, 22 Steward Ave, ☎ +2335123103. 9 AM to 5 PM Tues. through Sat. The museum buildings once served as Kumasi Fort, built by the British in 1896 after they destroyed the Asante Fort that originally stood here. The museum predominantly features information and artifacts related to the British-Asante War, but also includes many artifacts from World War I, World War II, and information about modern Ghanaian military history. Tour guides are friendly and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended. edit
Kumasi Zoo. All of the animals from the former Accra Zoo were transferred here a couple years ago, so there is now more to see. However, the conditions are not good for the animals, so visiting is not encouraged. edit
