Immersive Art Exhibition in Seoul ????
annnnnd I'm still really behind on posting vlogs, whoops!!
in this vlog we spend our morning at a delicious restaurant in samcheongdong (삼청동) called wood&brick! the food is wonderful, but it's quite pricey.. if you're not feeling like spending a lot of dough, you can just buy some dough...cause...their bakery is also amazing and it's on the first floor—ok I tried, I'm not the punny one, Shiv is.
we also visit kumho museum of art, 금호미술관. The exhibition was really awesome, it was super immersive and at one point you even interacted to create your own art~ The building is really unassuming and I wouldn't have really thought to go in there if I hadn't noticed some of the art on sns.. tickets were for 5,000KRW (though they change with the exhibit) and you can get a student discount!
oh and if you're looking for a really cool cafe/bar to have a drink in I would 100% recommend the place we went to, it was really, really cool~
(ok also would anyone like to talk about how weird the word exhibition looks after you've typed it a couple times??)

Loveed Fine Arts is pleased to present in collaboration with hpgrp Gallery New York
SHIN SANGHO - DREAMS AND VARIATIONS
A Project Room
Exhibition dates: Through September 6, 2011
Opening reception at hpgrp Gallery NY, 529 West 20th Street: Thursday, April 28, 6-8 pm
Gallery hours: Tues-Sat 11 am-6 pm
A fully illustrated catalogue is being published in conjunction with the exhibition.
Shin Sangho is a remarkable artist in every aspect of his work. Having helped revive Korean ceramics, updating more or less traditional forms and materials with his own versions of Buncheong ware in the eighties and early nineties, he has changed his direction dramatically since then. After extensive travels abroad-to America, Europe and especially to Africa-he was inspired to commence work in what he calls his Dream series, a strong, energetic production of mostly animal forms, imposing images of heads but also of plates and jars which developed in the early nineties. He then developed his series of Fired Painting composed of colorfully designed ceramic tiles. A series labeled Structure & Force followed depicting again dynamic figurative bodies after more and more colorfully glazed animal figures. He recently embarked in a series of fired-paintings described as Wrapping-Future City works.
During the course of this exhibition which we have conceived as a project room, hpgrp gallery and Loveed Fine Arts will exhibit prime examples ranging from all of his major series: Dream of Africa, Structure & Force, Fired Painting and Wrapping-Future City. For the past year or so, the artist has shifted his gear towards a highly experimental phase in both concepts and techniques. This exhibition will be a unique opportunity to discern glimpses of his future possibilities. If most of Shin's career can be described as a limitless quest for creativity, he is now entering a state where his goals are no longer in a linear challenge for change, but in a multidimensional creation through a more complete observation of himself.
Shin Sangho was born in 1947 in Seoul, Korea and received his BFA and MFA from Hongik University, Seoul. Recent exhibitions of his work include a solo exhibition at Longhouse Reserve, East Hampton, NY in 2004; The Shin Sangho Exhibition at the Clayarch Gimhae Museum, South Korea in 2008 and Shin Sangho: Architecture Ceramic Exploration at Boutique Monaco Museum of Art, Seoul in 2010. He also completed recent important public commissions such as the Samsung Town and Kumho Asiana Main Tower in 2008 as well as the Classic 500 Building at Konkuk University in 2009. His work can be found in numerous prestigious museum, corporate and private collections including The National Museum of Contemporary Art, South Korea; Korea Ceramic Foundation, Gyeonggi, South Korea; Clayarch Gimhae Museum, South Korea; Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, Japan; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, U.K; National British Museum, London, U.K; National Ceramic Museum, Sèvres, France; Royal Marimont Museum, Brussels, Belgium; Everson Museum, Syracuse, NY; Lowe Art Museum, Miami, FL; Cleveland Museum of Arts, Cleveland, OH; Longhouse Reserve, East Hampton, NY; Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario, Canada; 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup Foundation; The Samsung Foundation, Seoul; LG Fashion Corporation/ Daks, Seoul; Grand Hyatt Hotel, Seoul ; Marriott Hotel Seoul; Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation, Seoul and The Classic 500, Konkuk University, Seoul, South Korea.

Holding Effect
Artist Jahn Jang depicts the stories of relationships using keywords like
human bodies, objects and black through his exhibition Holding Effect.
As the winner of the 1st Portfolio Competition held by the Seoul
Foundation for Arts and Culture, Jang covers not only the relationships
between individuals, groups and societies, but also countries, religions,
values and ideologies. The piece Raindrop was inspired by rainy scenery,
but upon closer view, each raindrop depicts a human. Hovering between
3D and 2D spaces, Jang questions how we should build and maintain our
relationships.

A new kind of contemporary Hanbok perfect for modern-day people has
arrived by designer Oh In-kyung of INOJUDAN. Rather than holding onto
silk and embroidery, the traditional material and embellishment, Oh
experiments with a variety of fabrics with different patterns, including
cartoon characters. Her Hanbok seems to be well beyond the traditional
boundaries of the outfits; however, her designs actually have roots in
tradition. She takes the traditional outfit from history and decorates it with
modern beauty. With her freewheeling artistry, Oh will definitely lead a
new trend in Hanbok during her era.

Suin Bag
Tradition has been combined with modernity to result in a new sensational fashion trend. Founded by designer Lee Su-in, Suin offers simple yet colorful and bold bags, full of traditional elements and sentiments. Arguing that tradition is met with limitations when the focus is on merely reenacting its formative side, Lee adopts appropriate changes and new interpretations to satisfy modern-day people. Her inspiration comes from Korean furniture, musical instruments, lucky bags, pincushions, Norigae (traditional Korean ornaments) and more, and through these designs, Lee preserves the original meaning and spirit of Korea while suggesting the new possibilities of traditional Korean culture.

Jeewon Park Performs at the Clark Art Institute - Chopin's 'Andante spianato et grande polonaise'
In this special performance at the Clark, Jeewon Park plays the piano designed by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema for the Marquand Music Room in honor of the special exhibition Orchestrating Elegance: Alma-Tadema and Design
Pianist Jeewon Park has garnered the attention of audiences for her dazzling technique and poetic lyricism. She has performed in such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Hall, 92nd Street Y, Philadelphia Museum of Art, Kravis Center, and Seoul Arts Center in Korea. Park has appeared at major concert halls across North America, Europe and Asia. Recently, she performed as a soloist in the inaugural festival of the IBK Chamber Hall at the Seoul Arts Center, in addition to engagements at such venues as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, Vilar Performing Arts Center, and Kumho Art Hall, among others. She regularly returns to the Caramoor International Music Festival where she first appeared as a Rising Star in 2007, and is a frequent performer at Bargemusic in New York.
In 1884 the American industrialist Henry Gurdon Marquand (1819–1902) commissioned noted British artist Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836–1912) to design a Greco-Pompeiian music room for his new Madison Avenue mansion. It was an era when designing luxurious rooms in different styles—Renaissance, Moorish, Japanese, French—was popular among the affluent, and this trend was well represented in other mansions being built along the fashionable avenues in New York. Although Alma-Tadema was most famous as a painter of scenes set in antiquity, he was also known for the imaginative interiors of his own residences. The Marquand music room commission resulted in one of the most evocative interiors of late nineteenth-century New York, featuring a suite of elaborately inlaid furniture alongside textiles, paintings, sculptures, and ancient ceramics in a room that showed off Marquand’s collections while serving as a center for social events and musical performances Orchestrating Elegance: Alma-Tadema and Design (June 4 – September 4, 2017) looks at the history of this exceptional moment in Alma-Tadema’s career and reunites many of the extraordinary components of this lost room for the first time in more than a century.
