Zurich Travel Guide - Unforgettable Switzerland Dreams
Zurich Travel Guide - Unforgettable Switzerland Dreams
Zurich (German: Zürich, Zürich German: Züri) is the largest city in Switzerland, with a population of some 390,000 in the city proper and 1.2 million in the agglomeration area. Zurich is on Lake Zurich, where the lake flows into the River Limmat , in the north of Switzerland. Zurich is the largest city of the Swiss Confederation (Switzerland) by land area and population. It is the financial center of Switzerland and houses the stock exchange and the headquarters of a large number of national and international companies, and also home of FIFA's headquarters.
You also find Google's world-wide second largest development center in Zurich. Because Zurich is the central node of the Swiss-wide train network and also runs the biggest and busiest international airport in the country, it generally is the first place where tourists arrive. Because of the city's close distance to tourist resorts in the Swiss Alps and its mountainous scenery, it is often referred to as the portal to the Alps.
Contrary to a generally wrongly made assumption, Zurich is not the capital of Switzerland -- the Swiss are very much a confederation of Cantons and avoid naming any one city as capital in order to prevent that Canton from seeming more important than the others. Still, the federal government is headquartered in Berne and not Zurich. Zurich has long been known for being clean and efficient. Due to this, it has been continuously ranked as the city with the highest living standard world-wide for many years. However, only for the last fifteen years it has truly become a fascinating and worthwhile travel destination. This is mostly thanks to the liberalization of the party (more than 80 clubs are open at weekends) and gastronomy sectors (over 500 bars and more than 1500 restaurants). An increasingly cosmopolitan population has helped (every third inhabitant is a foreigner), as well, though more button-down Geneva remains Switzerland's most culturally heterogeneous city. Zurich always used to be well known for a demanding audience in opera/ballet, classical concerts, and theater. You find more than 50 museums and over 100 galleries in a inner city circle.
Zürich is famous for its highly efficient, clean and safe public transport system, owned by the several municipal transport agencies and managed by the Zürcher Verkehrsverbund (ZVV), which covers the entire canton of Zürich, plus some municipalities in bordering cantons for the passenger's convenience (in fact the 18x fare zones and some stops in zone 155). The network includes trams, buses (local city/municipality buses as well as the yellow bright Swiss PostAuto buses), suburban trains (S-Bahn), regular trains (SBB), cable cars and boats.
The quintessential Zürich dish is Zürigeschnätzlets, chopped veal in a cream and wine sauce, normally served with Rösti. Various kinds of grilled Würste (sausages, singular: Wurst) are also popular. These are most often accompanied by boiled potatoes, or Rösti, a kind of hash-browns, just much better (boiled potatoes then grated, then pan fried in butter until crisp) or Chnöpfli (small noodle dumplings, in Germany called Spätzle).
Zurich is the financial centre of Switzerland and most travellers come with an expense account. The hospitality sector focuses therefore mostly on the 4 and 5 star hotels. Zurich is known for its superb hotels, but these won't come cheap. Best is to go on a company rate, because rack rates are sometimes ridiculous.

Heimo Zobernig: Ohne Titel (in Red) / Kunsthalle Zürich
Due to the conversion and renovation of its permanent home at the Löwenbräu Areal the Kunsthalle Zürich temporarily resides at the Museum Bärerngasse. The current exhibition presents Austrian artist Heimo Zobernig, who is viewed as a key figure of the Austrian art scene. For his solo show titled “Ohne Titel (in Red)” Heimo Zobernig conceived an exhibition that plays with the domesticated interior of the former residential buildings that were constructed in 1670, focusing on the topics of “furnishing” and “light”. Zobernig developed a specific lighting situation for the rooms of the Museum Bärengasse. He closed the shutters of the windows of the two early-Baroque houses and submerged the exhibition space in red by means of a light installation. On display are 11 video works, cardboard and particle board objects created since 1985.

Join me as I explore spaces new and old offering possibilities of all types of events from launches to conferences, from incentives to roadshows as well as my experiences as an event professional attending industry events and day to day work life.
In this vlog, I put together a video of my experience as a guest of The Switzerland Meeting Trophy 2018. This is an annual event organised by The Switzerland Convention Bureau to showcase the country and it's very many possibilities for incentives and groups of all types.
They work with different hotels, venues and suppliers and put together a creative, challenging and fun experience for event professionals to engage, learn and be inspired when organising and planning events with Switzerland in mind.
This was a 3 day and night program and our route was Zurich - Basel - Zurich - Bad Ragaz - St. Moritz and Pontresina. We explored the cities through various modes of transport.
There were 8 teams from 8 different countries who had to answer questions and compete in challenges to gather the most points in order to be deemed the Swiss Trophy Winners 2018. And I was part of Team Germany who came in 2nd place :) The winners having won by just 1 point were North America.

ALICJA KWADE - Museum Haus Konstruktiv Zürich
Museum Haus Konstruktiv | Alicja Kwade | LinienLand | Curator Sabine Schaschl | Movie schwarzpictures.com
8 February to 6 May 2018
Museum Haus Konstruktiv shows a comprehensive solo exhibition by Alicja Kwade (b. 1979). This renowned sculptor and conceptual artist is a relativist who skeptically questions what is supposedly our reality. In her multimedia work, she addresses a wide range of very different ideas and conceptual models to create pieces that are both formally stringent and sensorially poetic.
