Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. Eine Stadt als Weltlabor
Was ist eine Stadt? Oder besser noch: Was macht eine Stadt aus und was kann sie sein? Diese Fragen hat Ralf Beil nicht nur sich, sondern auch einem Kreis internationaler Künstler und Künstlerinnen gestellt, um Deutungen, Metamorphosen und Entgrenzungen Wolfsburgs zu erkunden. Neben zahlreichen kuratierten Einheiten werden sieben eigens für die Ausstellung entstandene künstlerische Großprojekte die Stadt im Museum spiegeln und als „Weltlabor“ erlebbar machen. Erstmals in seiner Geschichte wird das gesamte Museum zum Ausstel-lungsort: vom Entree über die Foyerflächen und Vermittlungsräume bis hin zum Japan-Garten. Die Totalinstallation in der 16 Meter hohen Halle vereint Containerterminal und Autokino – Urbanität im Format 1:1.

„Das Jahr der Studentenunruhen fand ohne mich statt.“
So resümiert der deutsche Fotograf, Bildjournalist und Sammler Robert Lebeck (1929–2014) in den „Erinnerungen eines Fotoreporters“ seine Erfahrung des Jahres 1968: „Als in Paris die Barrikaden brannten, arbeitete ich in Florida an einer Serie über zwei ermordete Studentinnen; während Studenten vor dem Springer-Hochhaus demonstrierten, fotografierte ich die Taufe von Hildegard Knefs Kind; und als die Russen in Prag einmarschierten, begleitete ich gerade den Papst nach Bogotá.“ Bei genauerer Betrachtung der Kontaktbogen, Fotoabzüge sowie Reportagen von Robert Lebeck, die in eben diesem epochemachenden Jahr für den „Stern“ – eine der damals auflagenstärksten Illustrierten Deutschlands – entstanden sind und in dieser Ausstellung erstmals umfassend präsentiert werden, zeigt sich allerdings, wie sehr sich entgegen der Einschätzung des Fotografen die gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen in seinen pointierten Aufnahmen spiegeln.

Wie nutzen indische Künstlerinnen heute ihre Stimme? Wie gehen sie mit ihrer sozialen Verantwortung um? Welche Sprache finden sie für das Unausgesprochene? Erstmals in Deutschland zeigt das Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg eine Ausstellung mit sechs Künstlerinnen aus Indien. Mit wenigen Ausnahmen wie dem Bundesstaat Kerala im Süden des Landes ist die indische Gesellschaft vom Patriarchat geprägt. Die Annahme, dass Frauen weniger wert seien als Männer, ist tief in ihrer Mentalität verankert. „Facing India“ geht der Frage nach, wie sich die eigene Landesgeschichte, Gegenwart und Zukunft aus weiblichem Blickwinkel darstellt.

James Turrell · The Wolfsburg Project (English subtitles)
The primary medium of Californian artist James Turrell is light. Probably the best-known artist in his field, Turrell's entire oeuvre since the 1960s has been devoted to exploring the diverse manifestations of this immaterial medium and working towards a new, space-defining form of light art. While light here refers to nothing beyond itself, it causes surface, colour and space to interact and allows viewers to immerse themselves in a mysterious, painterly world. Occupying a central place in James Turrell's oeuvre is the Roden Crater, an extinct volcano in the Arizona desert which the artist has been transforming into an observatory since 1974. Building upon the cosmic aspects of this quiet, meditative place, Turrell is creating the worldwide largest museum installation he has made to date at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg, producing a light-filled space of experience in the tradition of his Ganzfeld Pieces. Making full use of the adaptable architecture system of the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg - unique within the German museum landscape - his installation will be an exploration of space and light: immaterial and material at once. The timelessness and fascination of James Turrell's works derives from his incredible skill at capturing fleeting light and giving it the visual presence and tactile density of a physical body.

Die Ausstellung Art & Fashion in Wolfsburg | euromaxx
Mode wird immer schriller und hat längst die Grenze zur Kunst überschritten. Das beweist eine Ausstellung im Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. Sie heißt Art & Fashion - Zwischen Haut und Kleid und läuft bis zum 7. August.Eine Kreation stammt von dem niederländischen Designer-Duo Viktor & Rolf. Von ihnen wird ein knallrotes Tüll-Kleid gezeigt - mit Löchern so groß wie Teller an Stellen, wo sie völlig deplatziert sind. Andere Designer haben Schuhe aus Wachs entworfen und treiben das Spiel mit ungewöhnlichen Materialien auf die Spitze. Einer der bekanntesten Grenzgänger zwischen Mode und Kunst ist der belgische Designer Walter von Beirendonck. Von ihm ist das Fantasiekostäum The Bee ausgestellt.

The Autostadt is a visitor attraction adjacent to the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg, Germany, with a prime focus on automobiles.
