Kyiv Running Tours
The video was shot in Kyiv, Ukraine in August 2013 to showcase the beauty of the city's sights, architecture and nature. It features one of the guides of kievrunningtours.com, a service that offers both guided running tours of Kyiv. Kyiv Running Tours developed a number of running tours that we enjoy running ourselves - close enough to major Kyiv sights and yet beautiful and challenging enough to keep your running schedule on track.
Walking from Kyiv Centre to Podil - Walking tour with an Englishman - POV - Guided Tour Kiev
Thanks for joining me for another one of my videos. Today you find me in the wonderful city of Kyiv (Kiev to Russians and some in the west). I walk without cuts to the shot from the Centre of Kyiv to Podil. Starting on the Northside of Khreschatyk Street at the top of Volodymyrs'kyi descent. I venture across the Glass Bottom Bridge that was newly erected in 2019 and continue down the Hill where I encounter amazing art, beautiful views and Red Squirrels.
I’m documenting a lot of travel lately simply for prosperity purposes - Its fantastic that I can share those experiences also via YouTube.
Thank you kindly for watching, commenting, liking and even sharing these videos I try to respond to every comment (good and bad).
I am not working for any tourist board, government or sponsor so the views in this video are entirely my own.

Our Ukraine Travel Series started in Kiev (Київ) the Capital of Ukraine. We had 10 days to see as much of country as we could. Moving on south west of the country we took an overnight train to Ivano-Frankivsk before taking a hire car up into the Carpathian Mountains. Bad weather in the mountains restricted what we could achieve, before driving north to Lviv. Our final day was spend flying back to Kiev to catch our flight home to the UK.

Ukraine Train Ride (1st Class) from Kiev to Lviv travel vlog
Join us for train ride in Ukraine as we travel in first class from Kiev to Lviv in this travel vlog. After leaving our apartment in Kiev we took the metro to the main train station and then had quite a bit of time to kill. When we boarded the train we were really happy we bought a first class ticket as it gave us lots of room to stretch out, sleep, get caught up on work and just overall feel comfortable as we enjoyed the complimentary tea service. Upon arriving in Lviv our AirBNB host picked us up and after dropping off our bags in the apartment we went out for a dinner that included Ukrainian dumplings.

Ukraine Train Ride (1st Class) from Kiev to Lviv travel vlog transcript:
Hello. It is almost time to check out of our apartment here in Kiev (Киев). Our host is going to be coming any minute. Any minute. We have to finish packing up. Like what happened to the what we had 9 nights just boom. We had over a week here. That is one of the fastest stays we've ever had anywhere. The time just flew by. We were tired, we also had a lot of work to do and we also just really enjoyed being here.
Two stops to the train station. Let's go. But there is going to be a nice long escalator ride to get to the platform. Yeah. These escalators here in Kyiv (Київ) are epic.
So we've made it to the train station. Tickets in hand. And we've just looked at the departure board. I would like to point out that is the worst departure board I've ever seen in my life. First of all the letters are like bright red and neon green. And you stare at it for like 3 seconds and it starts blinding you.
Our train is leaving in about a half hour so we're back in the station. We are platform 2. Now we just have to find that. It is quite a grand station I must say. It is beautiful.
We've got our seats and what is really cool is we upgraded to 1st class. It wasn't that much more. We'll let you know the price of the ticket a little bit later on. If you take a look over here you can see how it has different classes. If it was second class there would be 6 people but because it is only first there is 4 of us and that gives us lots of rooms for our baggage. We'll show you as we go in. That is where we are sitting. We have basically those 3 seats on the bottom.
Alright, so now would be a good time to talk about the tickets. And it is noisy. The train is just taking off. Anyways, we paid just over 500 which is about roughly $20 US dollars and this is for the fastest train possible to Lviv (Львів). And it takes about five hours and forty minutes so we're going to be on here for a little while. But it is quite comfortable. I'm glad that we paid for 1st class because we're going to be able to get some work done. Apparently, there is tea service so hopefully we get that too.
And just like that we've been teleported to our apartment here in Lviv (Львів). Um, so yeah we arrived right on time. Our AirBNB host was waiting for us at the train station. We hopped in his car and he drove us here which is so rare. No one has ever picked us up. Which was super awesome.
Um but yeah we're really really hungry so we are going to save the apartment tour for another day. Another video. Right now we need dinner. Let's go. We'll take you along for food though.
So we are staying in a super residential neighborhood so there are not a whole lot of restaurants around but we found a hotel and they have a restaurant. So we're in here. Right now we are the only guests. The last couple just left but they have like all of these animals. Looking at me everywhere. Look. There is a cow looking at you.
Food is here. Food is here. I'm so hungry. Like I said I was water fasting earlier on. 24 hours without food so I'm ready to eat. This is varenyky. The Ukrainian dumplings. They are delicious.
And this is it. We're ending off the video. We're tired. We are really excited to be in this city (Lviv) and we look forward to sharing some videos with you guys soon. But for now goodnight.
This is part of our Travel in Ukraine video series showcasing Ukrainian food, Ukrainian culture and Ukrainian cuisine.

Legend has it that three Slavic brothers and their sister founded Kyiv. The eldest, Kyi, gave the city its name. The names of brothers Shchek, Khoriv and sister Lybid now appear in its topography. An iconic statue of the four siblings - the Foundation of Kyiv Monument - stands on the banks of the Dnipro River.
In 989 Kyivan ruler Volodymyr decided to forge a closer alliance with Constantinople, marrying the emperor's daughter and adopt-ing Orthodox Christianity. Kyiv’s pagan idols were destroyed and its people were driven into the Dnipro for a mass baptism - an event still commemorated during Epiphany. (Eastern churches, following the Julian rather than the Gregorian calendar, have celebrated Epiphany (or Theophany) in conjunction with Christ's baptism by John the Baptist and celebrated it on January 19.)
In 1240 Mongol raiders sacked Kyiv.
The city shrank to the riverside district of Podil, which remained its center for centuries. Only when Ukraine formally passed into Russian hands at the end of the 18th century did Kyiv again grow in importance, as tsar-ist policies encouraged Russian immigration. The city went through an enormous boom at the tum of the 20th century because of an upsurge in nearby sugar milling. Many new mansions were erected at this time, including the remarkable House of Chimeras.
Kyiv’s modern centre and old city are on the Dnipro River’s west bank - called the ‘right bank’ because it’s on the right as you travel down the river. If you were to sail downstream into Kyiv from the north, your first port of cali on the right bank would be Podil, which sits below the rest of the city on the river plain. Continuing south, the woodsy, park-covered hills of the Pechersk district rise up from the river, ex-tending south to Kyiv’s main attraction, the Kievo-Pecherska Lavra.
The commercial heart of modern-day Kyiv -vul Khreshchatyk and maydan Nezalezhnosti (Independence square) - is above Podil and the river, west of Pechersks hills. The cit/s ancient centre, located around Zoloti Vorota and St Sophia’s Cathedral, is perched on a long hill overlooking, and running parallel to, vul Khreshchatyk.

Exploring the old Soviet Park in Kyiv/Kiev, Ukraine! Hydropark Fun! ????????
The Hidropark island in the middle of the Dnipro river running through Kyiv/Kiev is a favourite weekend hot-spot for many locals in Ukraine! There are beaches, bars and restaurants as well as a fun fair, kids activities and a Ukraine in miniature too. We went along one weekend day to check it all out. And we had such a great time. As well seeing the whole island & meeting a hedgehog we also got to hang out and dance with some locals! A lot of it feels like stepping back in time about 30 years to a Soviet time gone by - and well worth spending a day here!

2. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reports that “…marriages arranged through [mail order bride] services have a divorce rate of only 20% (based on USCIS data going back 17 years).”

4. Yet the fact is only 5-7% of Ukraine and Russian ladies ever find a foreign husband.

So opportunity is knocking for YOU!
Yet the real trick is knowing how to AVOID the litany of SCAMS!
So just be FOREWARNED you are in shark infested waters!
If you want to avoid the costly, painful mistakes most foreigners make on your search for an amazing, beautiful wife in Ukraine, send me an email and I'll share my good agency contacts with you.
How Ukrainian Dating Agencies Scam Foreigners...
Most Ukrainian dating agencies specifically target middle-aged men and have elaborate schemes in place that allow them to make millions of dollars on their unsuspecting clients. They are almost always based on a fraudulent letter writing mechanism, where the client thinks he is corresponding with a beautiful woman, but instead he writes to a translator who is using a model's photos and dating profile. Both of them are paid employees of the agency. Since the client pays for every email he sends through the agency and every minute of online chat with the brides, their goal is to keep the messages coming in, rather than actually doing legitimate matching for love and marriage, as they claim. To be frank, to marriage agencies, marriage is just an unwanted by-product of this industry, and fortunately for them it is rare. The only thing it is good for is publicity: the agency will milk every marriage that happens through them for all its worth.
Agencies also offer the women's private email addresses for sale, but more often than not after the transaction has taken place it will still be the translator who writes to the client, as they have no interest in letting the client off the hook. Another way to scam the foreign men is to get them to send gifts and flowers to the women at up to 500% markups, which are then often taken back to the vendor and returned for cash.
If the foreign client insists on meeting his potential bride in person, the agency will work hard to keep the ruse alive and keep the scam meter running. They make money on every single thing the foreigners do during their stay from coordinating apartment rental, taxi/limo, translation, marriage coaching, all services are often marked up by 500%.
After finally meeting their bride, who is suddenly cold and distant, they realize that they have been scammed. Unfortunately, by that time it is too late to do anything about it.
How To Spot a SCAM...
There are several red flags that can help you recognize a scam. Watch out for the following warning signs:
• During your online conversations the woman tells you she doesn't have a cell phone, wifi signal or a computer to keep writing you letters. Everyone in the Ukraine does, especially women looking for a foreign husband online.
• The woman tells you her computer is broken and asks for money to buy a new one. It might be an expensive yet affordable gift to a Westerner, but in Ukraine it is a month's salary.
• She asks you for money tugging at your heart strings: sob stories about sick family members and car accidents are more common than you would think.
• She tells you she needs money for a visa to come and see you.

River Station, Kyiv, Ukraine - Travel tour 4K (Ultra HD)
Kyiv river port and train station (Ukrainian: Kiev Rіchkovy Port and Station) is the former main river port of Kiev, located on the right bank of the Dnieper on Podil, the historical part of the city.
Port marinas stretch from the harbor to the Dnipro metro station.
Since ancient times, Podil has been a trading center of the city, goods for which were delivered mainly by water.
From the XIX century, the movement of ships along the Dnieper began, and the rows of marinas stretched along the right bank.
Kiev river port was built in July 1897.
In 1953-1961, a new station building was built on Poshtova Square according to the project of architects V. Gopkalo, V. Ladny and others. The tower of the building resembles the mast of sailing ships.
Cargo and passenger transportation along the Dnieper was carried out by the shipping company Ukrrichflot. After the privatization of Ukrrichflot on November 11, 1992, the volume of traffic began to fall, while passenger ships and ships were being sold abroad, and scraped. Today on the Dnieper for passengers carried out periodic excursion routes only in the area of the city of Kiev.
In 2009, a type of public transport forgotten for Kiev was launched - the so-called “river tram”, for communication between the right and left banks of Kiev. The tram runs only in the warm season.

Finding 'Illegal' Parties in Kyiv
ШЩЦ (pronounced 'shits') record label does not typically host normal parties. While 'underground' raves pride themselves on their exclusivity, ШЩЦ gathers a so-called 'street intelligentsia' out in the open in unexpected places. On July 1st, they chose to re-imagine the riverside beside the Metro Bridge. This spontaneous DIY event took place next to Dnipro metro station, which opened in the 1960s. Thanks to its unique aesthetic, it was featured in numerous Soviet-era Ukrainian films in the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Cruising on the Dnieper River, Kyiv, Ukraine
Cruising on the Dnieper River can be beautiful even on a rainy day. The views from the boat are beautiful. It is a chance to see Kyiv from a different perspective.
The Dnieper River runs from the northern part of Ukraine to the Southern part. On it's way through Ukraine the Dnieper goes through the center on Kyiv.
This Cruise was a chance to experience the river again and to obtain some better footage of the beauty of the city of Kyiv from the river.
I hope you enjoy this Cruise on the Dnieper in the rain.
