Tatsuya and Michiko from JWT greeted us and helped us on this Street Food Journey across Kyoto's Nishiki Market. They were great and helped out with the kids, otherwise I'm not sure this would have been possible! So a big thank you to them for that!
About us: We are Daniel, Robyn, Ava, Rose and Ella, and together we are The Go To Family. We love to travel! We also love food, exploring historical sites and, of course, doing loads of fun things together as a family. In my videos, you will see me and Robyn tackle every obstacle that traveling with kids throws at us. We do traveling almost exactly the same way as we did before having kids, it just takes a little bit more planning. But it's even more fun and rewarding to be able to show them new cultures and live new experiences with them at the same time! Our mission is to inspire other Millennials to travel with kids.
Our 7-year-old daughter, Ava, also has her own YouTube channel. Feel free to check it out right here:

How To Shinto shrine at the Nishiki Market in Kyoto, Japan
Please support our channel for more family travel vlogs:
Watch us learn how to Shinto shrine at the Nishiki Market! Please support our channel for more family travel vlogs:
The Nishiki Market shrine, Tenmangu (Tenmangū, 錦天満宮), is a Shinto shrine in Kyoto, Japan (京都) dedicated to Tenjin . Shinto is the predominant religion in Japan and shrines are a quintessential part of Shintoism. This video was cut from a longer Kyoto Japanese Street Food video at the Nishiki Market that will be coming out most likely tomorrow, done in partnership with Japan Wonder Travel.
This was our first time visiting a Shinto shrine and Tatsuya and Michiko, our tour guides with Japan Wonder Travel, showed us the customs that are observed throughout the whole process of visiting a shrine. First you have to wash your hands, first your left then your right, and then your mouth. You are then cleansed and pure enough to approach the deity. You have to summon him and to do so you must ring his bell. Once he's summoned you have a preset number of gestures that have to be respected before you can finally make your wish to the Shinto deity. In this case, this Shrine is dedicated to business and school. Logically, your wish probably has to do with getting filthy rich or becoming a grade A student, or both. Since I'm not a student these days I'll let you guess what I wished... ;)

Kiyomizu-Dera Temple + Higashiyama Street Food and Shopping Tour in Kyoto, Japan
While in Kyoto, Japan we went on a tour of Kiyomizu-Dera which is one of the top things to do while in Kyoto. Kiyomizu-Dera (清水寺, Kiyomizudera) means Pure Water Temple in Japanese and is one of the most popular temples in all of Japan. Of course, being located in Kyoto, one Japan's historical capitals, helps its cause. Kyoto is ladled with historical buildings and temples like Kiyomizu-dera. Unlike Tokyo, which was bombed during WW2, most of the city still retains its traditional Japanese flair. We also explored the neighbouring Higashiyama neighbourhood, which is a food and shopping wonder!
Kiyomizu-Dera was founded in either 778 or 780 and is named after the Otowa Waterfall. At first, the temple was associated with the Hosso sect of Buddhism until 1965 when it formed its very own Kita Hosso sect. One of the iconic images of the temple is that of its wooden stage that protrudes from its main hall. It is said that people used to attempt the jump down below and those who survived the fall were then blessed with good luck. I can see people surviving the fall, but I'm less than certain that the probably permanent consequences were worth any of the good luck gained. But never-mind my skepticism, moving on...
In the back of the Kiyomizu-dera temples lies the Jishu shrine, dedicated to love. Having relationship trouble? This might be the spot to cure your illness. At the bottom of the Kiyomizu-dera temple like the Otowa Waterfall which is divided in 3 separate streams. Visitors are free to cleanse themselves with the pure water from the waterfall, which is a typical Japanese tradition even at Shinto shrines.

Hi friends! We’re Braden & Taylor, a newlywed couple from California living with a BAD case of the travel bug. In Fall 2018, we quit our jobs, sold our belongings, and packed two tiny suitcases to find out what it truly means to live life to the fullest. First and foremost, we vlog for ourselves — our channel is a living picture book of the memories we collect over the next months and years around the globe, traveling to over 60 countries by 2020. If there’s a place we haven’t been, it’s on our list!
Secondly, we document our life on the road for family, friends and strangers alike — if our videos help pass on the travel influenza, then we’ve done our job. ???? We don’t know where this trip will take us, but we promise to ourselves and to you that we will always present both the beautiful and the ugly, because no trip is perfect, and neither is our world. Don’t be shy — send us a shout out when we’re in your area, and be sure to subscribe + hit the bell to be notified of future videos!
Japan trip: Kyoto, Nara, and Osaka
Come explore the Kansai region with us as we tour three of Japan's most popular destinations. From sampling plenty of matcha treats and experiencing a traditional Japanese multiple-course style kaiseki meal in Kyoto to being surrounded by wild deer in Nara to strolling through Osaka's lively Dontonburi street at night, we managed to cover quite a bit in just four days. November is an ideal month to visit the area, as one can enjoy the beautiful fall foliage. Since we are university students on a tight budget, we made sure to save money by taking the overnight bus to and from Kansai. On the way back, I literally went straight from the bus station to class! The hostel we stayed at, Bola Bola, was very reasonable in price as well - not to mention comfortable, clean, and cozy. Kyoto (Japan) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Kyoto in Japan.
Kyoto is considered to be the cradle of Japanese culture, an ancient imperial city with twelve hundred years of history. Emperor Saga honoured the monk, Kukai, by giving him the eastern Toji Temple as the centre of Shingon Buddhism. The lecture hall is home to a figurine-mandala consisting of twenty-one wooden sculptures and in the centre is the mighty figure of cosmic Buddha, Dainichi. On the northern edge of the city is the Kinkakuji Temple, the Golden Pavilion. It is one of the most beautiful buildings of the Muromachi Period whose gilded facade reflects in a pond. The Kamigamo Shrine was one of the most influential and powerful shrines during Heian times. It was here that nobles and members of the imperial court sought proximity to the Shinto heads of the shrine. It was founded in the late seventh centuryand its thirty-six buildings are classified as national cultural treasures. The well-preserved Gion Quarter east of the Kamo River is known for its traditional performances, such as that of koto music. Gagaku music and dance is also featured, as once performed in the Japanese royal court.Kyoto is ancient Japan, a place of both culture and religion.

Back in Kyoto, Japan! Onsen and Vegetarian Food in Arashiyama
Kyoto is one of the best places to visit in Japan! My favourite to travel to in Kyoto is Arashiyama because there are so many things to see and do and a lot of must try food! In this Kyoto vlog I show you my favourite onsen in Kyoto, Japan and share my vegetarian and vegan food recommendations when staying in Arashiyama! Being vegetarian or vegan in Japan and finding traditional food can be difficult so I am really excited to guide you to these places!
In this video I travel from Tokyo to Kyoto by Shinkansen! I have been to Kyoto many times before and in my opinion it is one of the most beautiful areas to view the seasonal changes. Its also super convenient base for many day trips to the surrounding areas so I am really excited to take you along with me.
The restaurant I mentioned is called Okunoniwa and it is right in the heart of Arashiyama! It has a dedicated vegan option and a separate vegetarian option as well as option for those with allergies.
