Driving To L.L. Bean Original Freeport, Maine 2018
L.L.Bean was founded in 1912 by its namesake, hunter and fisherman Leon Leonwood Bean in Freeport, Maine. The company began as a one-room operation selling a single product, the Maine Hunting Shoe (also known as duck boots. Bean had developed a waterproof boot, which is a combination of lightweight leather uppers and rubber bottoms, that he sold to hunters. He obtained a list of nonresident Maine hunting license holders, prepared a descriptive mail order circular, set up a shop in his brother's basement in Freeport and started a nationwide mail-order business. By 1912, he was selling the Bean Boot, or Maine Hunting Shoe, through a four-page mail-order catalog, and the boot remains a staple of the company's outdoor image. Defects in the initial design led to 90 percent of the original production run being returned: Bean made good on his money-back guarantee, corrected the design, and continued selling them.
The 220,000 sq ft (20,000 m2) L.L.Bean retail store campus in Freeport, Maine is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with more than three million visitors per year, as of 2015.
Leon L. Bean died on February 5, 1967, in Pompano Beach, Florida. He is buried in Freeport's Webster Cemetery. The company passed into the directorship of Bean's grandson, Leon Gorman, from that time until 2001, when Gorman decided to take the position of Chairman, leaving the position of CEO to Christopher McCormick, the first non-family member to assume the title. On May 19, 2013 Shawn Gorman, 47, a great-grandson of the company’s founder, was elected L.L.Bean’s chairman. The company announced a US$125,000 donation to a new scholarship fund upon Leon Gorman's death in 2015, representing about 2.5 years of tuition at his alma mater, Bowdoin College.
Stephen Smith was named CEO in November 2015, the first time in the company's 103-year history that a CEO had been hired from outside the company.

Coolest Mcdonalds Ever in Freeport Maine!
I found this Mcdonalds in Freeport Maine and had to check it out. Apart from the obvious difference in the building design this Mcdonalds also served food that can't be found in other regions of the U.S. such as a lobster roll and blueberry pie. I found this interesting and hope you do as well.

Otis Series 5 Elevator at LL Bean Hunting/Fishing Store Freeport ME
This Elevator is an Otis Series 5, with a large, service sized elevator.
Large OTIS 211 Hydraulic Elevator - LL Bean Flagship Hunting & Fishing - Freeport, ME
(Rec. Apr 2014, keep in mind that my video filming style has improved since this video). I figured I would upload a video in honor of Independence Day for once! Here's a video from deep into my backlog from my April 2014 trip to Maine that I never got around to uploading.
Here we have an OTIS hydraulic elevator that is in the Hunting and Fishing section of the LL Bean flagship store in Freeport. This is a bare-bones but still fascinating elevator that seems to have double-duty of a passenger and freight elevator. It is outfitted with OTIS Series 5 fixtures on the inside, with green Series 4 fixtures on the outside. Definitely not a combo you see everyday! Interestingly enough, the elevator shaft is actually combined with the chimney for a fireplace that sits on the M level. I show that in the video.
The elevator itself seems to run pretty well, I did not have any problems with it when I rode it. It also seems to be well-kept, too!
LOCATION INFO:
The Hunting and Fishing section is a 2009 expansion to the main building (no pun intended) of the LL Bean Flagship complex in Freeport. This extension of the store is mostly focused on Hunting and Fishing related goods.

Epic motor! Otis series 1 hydraulic elevator @ L.L. Bean fishing/hunting outlet Freeport Maine
(Recorded July 21, 2015) Mini ElevaTour Marathon Final episode 5/5 I hope you enjoyed my Mini ElevaTour Marathon of the USA, it was a great adventure the reason the elevator at New Hampshire motor Speedway was not included in the mini marathon is because I wanted to do an elevator marathon in Maine because there's so many elevators to film. Anyways I thought I would and the marathon with an elevator with an epic motor so I hope you enjoy the video.

Snorkeling at Cape Porpoise Maine
Hiking around in Cape Porpoises Maine. On a very sunny day without any sunscreen. Traveling to island to island during low tide. Trying to get close to goat island lighthouse. There’s this cool Cove where you can go snorkeling. Lots of colors sea life. Mostly red seaweed and a couple of crabs, some gross sand worm, more seaweed, a couple of snails, sponges and seashells.
This is all part on the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust. I think they own the islands. And take care of them. Goat Island Light is a lighthouse located off Cape Porpoise near Kennebunkport in southern Maine. It’s only (walking) accessible for 1-3 hours during low tide. Better hurry back before I get stranded here.
